    This book, the fourth in the series, was much darker and dirtier than the previous 3, as it showed more of the mindset of the MC clubs, their hierarchy, and degrees of loyalty. It showed two men from clubs who failed to unite against a shared enemy, how deep disloyalty runs, and what might a person do to sacrifice for love, for loyalty, for family. The BDSM elements were present to a degree, which is not my normal type of reading I do, but this author wrote it in such a way, I kept reading and enjoying it. Jax & Hawke were 2 characters whose personalities and presence lasted long after I read it the first time.

    I found this book, Jax and Hawke's story, to be more violent/brutal than the others. Hawke's story especially - so full of pain. Jax's life was no picnic either, but he had been exposed to love whereas Hawke hadn't. Sometimes it was hard to read because it felt, to me, so hopeless. Yes, Hawke and Jax had a relationship, but there was no softness in it. Guess that's why the whole book just seemed to be physical/emotional pain upon pain. Still - I kept turning the pages, still wanted to be some HEA and there it was. That's not a spoiler as all E.M. Lindsey's books have a decent ending.

    Hawke has been a character that I have wanted to know more about from the beginning of this series. He has a speech impairment and usually uses sign language with the other guys. While he is still a quiet one, it was nice to get to know him and how he came to be a part of the Broken Chains. His past was heartbreaking but I appreciate that he fought to stand on his own and be self-sufficient before he became a part of the Broken Chains. Hawke was a man who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty but prefers peace and quiet. I liked him a lot.

    Jax is the VP of the Cobras. He and Hawke instantly hit it off and want each other but being rival MCs means that isn’t happening. Jax was a man who has been going with the flow for so long that he doesn’t realize how bad things have gotten. The situation with Hydra has opened his eyes and made him realize how his Prez and chapter have failed their brothers. It may be a bit late for Jax, but he does realize his mistakes and break away from the Cobras because of it.

    Like I said, Hawke and Jax may be from two different MCs but that doesn’t stop them from finding sanctuary in each other's arms. Their relationship was intense, emotional, and really steamy. Overall, this was another great addition to this series and I can’t wait to see how it all ends in the next one.

The last thing Jax expected was for the small man across the table to be the man who would give him what he wanted to be dominated roughly and he loved every minute of it.     I'm so into this series and want the conclusion but also don't want it to end. Hawke and Jax were smoking hot in this book as the Broken Chains continue to hunt Hydra down. This series needs to be read in order for maximum pleasure. Hawke can take a beating but he keeps on bouncing back and Jax is there to catch him. I loved their raw animalistic sex. I highly recommend this series and can't wait for book 5.

    I kind of missed the memo where those two were involved enough to warrant all that happens in the second act. I really liked Hawke in the previous books but this did not really deliver.
    In comparison to the other books in this series, this one did not work as well.
