To claim his powers as Founder and secure their freedom, Hal and his cohort fight to build a Sanctum where no other living kingdom dares to tread.

From constructing fortifications to maintaining morale and generating food, there isn’t a moment’s rest for Hal if he’s to be the first Founder to successfully stake a claim in the Shiverglades.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

As an EMT hailing from swampy Florida, James moved farther and farther across the country with each new book released until he eventually ended up in Washington. A feat that took a little over 2 years (or 5 books). Hopefully he stays put, because he’s just about run out of road if he tries to move again.

There, among the trees and mountains, he splits his time between the winding mountain trails, an unhealthy amount of video games, and, of course, writing.

Wow, this book was amazing. SO MUCH HAPPENED!! There’s a lot of action and adventure in this novel, a lot of happenings period. The fight scenes are great; there’s a long, epic battle at the end that was so long, but all of it made sense and was rewarding to read as it all felt crucial to the storyline. I got so wound up during that battle! It was spectacular. I mean, I love all the fight sequences in this series but the last one went well beyond what I was expecting in sheer epicness! The LitRPG elements in this book are really well done, too. It feels like practically every aspect of life fits into the System and has an associated skill or mechanic to explain it. It’s a lot of fun and obvious that the author has thoroughly thought this through! This book is SO GOOD—please read it!

Holy crap. Just Holy Crap... I haven’t been hooked on a series like this since I was back in 5th grade, reading the entire Percy Jackson series over and over again because I loved it so much! This gives off some of the same vibes as the beginning after the end series, though the main character isn’t a child. The action scenes are so vivid, and the feelings described in the book so surreal that when the chapter POV changes, your caught almost unaware, like you just woke up from sleeping to that weird feeling you get when you have zero obligations to fulfill. Not gonna lie, I may have skipped several chapters just to get back to the addictive goodness that is everything happening with Hal. The magic systems are amazing, though for some of the younger teen readers, this book, and the first one, will probably confuse you. A lot. But it’s totally worth reading several times, not to mention the shear length that is just perfection. The author has done such an amazing thing with how the endings work, that you don’t get the feeling of an ending, which can be prescribed to the web novel aspect of it, which as a reader of many of them, I can almost fully appreciate. I cannot explain my gratitude that there is very little fan service or romanticizing in this book, that it can hook you using cool aspects of plot and action instead of certain other things. But all said, you should totally read this. I mean the book... why are you still reading this, leave! Go Git!

This is a good book and a great buy the size is huge and will take awhile to get through. The only criticism I have is in regards to the clutter. The MC defeats baddie and gains awesome abilities A, B, and C. Then more baddies and more abilities and so on. EXAMPLE: Beastbourne, an extremely versatile class with insane growth potential; not 1, not 2, but 3 founders Mark's that are super OP not only the most powerful known magic but apparently the Mark's have another name and secret history; MC is soul bound to a manaseed, a manatee, a grim reaper, a terrible corruption monster, his own personal demon, and the souls of 2 alternate selves. With all that being said. I do highly recommend the book and entire series.

I have been reading a lot of LITRPG lately... and tried this series on a suggestion from one of the LITRPG groups I am in. Love it... not going to give any spoilers, but will say these are well written (much better than some of the LITRPG out there (that are full of mistakes, and logic faults). Large book... will take a bit to read it all... makes it an excellent value too!

I am so looking forward to the revealing of information that was lost and the new bonds that the characters are making that have never been done in that world.

This book and the first are amazing at letting you make a connection to the ppl in it. That you also cannot help but imagine being there and wanting more.

Please do not stop writing The story. I can see this series going on longer than The Kurtherian Gambit Books by Michael Anderle, these books are so well written that they match the depth and creativity Michaels series has. How well he can pull you in and catch you in the lore of the story. They both have carpeted the essence of STORY telling. Just like the story teller in the movie One Night With The King parts.

I am deeply looking forward to seeing where it goes, please do not stop. I devour the books I can really truly enjoy and this series is one of those. I love how long the books are please do not make them shorter. (Longer sories are always ok ;) )
Thank you for telling this story, James T Callum.

Let's get this out of the way, first book was amazing in its story building and character development. The mystery and plot kept you hooked till the very end of the 1000+ story. Then we come to the sequel, and the dreaded "sequel-slump" that all too many authors fall into. This one wasn't as bad, but it had some that made it feel longer than it should (again another 1000+ pages can dilute this quite a bit). I enjoyed the characters again and the struggle for home. What I wasn't so thrilled about was alot of what felt like filler to get from point A to point C. Perhaps this was just from my overwhelming urge to see more settlement development like what was hinted at in the first book, however this didn't happen till the end and there wasn't much time before the proverbial shirt hit the fan....

However I am definitely looking forward to finding out more about our characters, both old and new, in the coming book 3 as each one is unique and have a very compelling background. Also, the mystery around the world and the story of how it got to this point is so intriguing I do find myself day-dreaming about the "what-ifs" and the like. Keep up the awesome work and here's hoping for more beastly-goodness in the coming books.

If you liked the first Beastborne novel, you will like this one just as much. It picks up almost directly from where the last book left off and continues the adventures of Hal with all the same flair as the original. Everything aspect of the world of Aldim is explored further in Exiled Lands. The characters, the lore, the world, the magic; everything is expanded upon.

Hal grows in many satisfying ways in Book 2. Obviously, he explores his magic to a greater degree, with some awesome twists and turns that I won't spoil here. As his power and confidence grow, he begins to be a leader in truth, rather than just figurehead and walking manatree. His relationships are really expanded upon as well. There are some new characters introduced that really shake things up and make the story more colorful, but it's his evolving realtionships with his friends (and one in particular) that really stand out.

Much as the first beastborne book, this one again had some pacing issues. But other than the first book they were much smaller and roughly after reading half the book I just couldn't put it away anymore.
The litrpg elements are very well executed and while they still sometimes are a bit expositions they generally serve the story, it's mystery and the characters very well.

This series is fast becoming one of my favourite litrpg - and progression novels, and I am very excited to see where this all leads!

5.0 out of 5 stars Over-complex but still enjoyable
Reviewed in Australia on September 11, 2023
A lot of complex LitRPG stats, overly complicated spell system and the mix of ideas thrown into this book makes it more difficult to read. The story itself is good, the action is great and I am enjoying the progression, but him always finding a way to do that little bit more which helps him win against an opponent he is way underpowered for is somewhat annoying for some reason, but it’s to be expected as every battle is to the death. I would probably give the story 4.5 stars if it was possible.

The story continues to be great. Especially love the characters and the worldbuliding probably my favourite part of the story. Now that they have survived the horde of monsters, the only thing rest is to bring back the other friends lost in battle throw pobul magic. Also, the dragon character is awesome, probably my favourite.
Highly recommended it, so far it's has been a great story.
