Bedside Manner (Hearts and Health Book 2) Kindle Edition
The last thing he needs is to fall for a patient. Not now, when he's been put on paid leave pending review of a formal complaint. One that accuses him of sexual impropriety of some kind. It's possible he let his newfound freedom as a divorced, out-of-the-closet gay man go to his head, but he's certain -- mostly -- he didn't do anything wrong. Now, he's struggling to handle the reality that his job is in danger and the only guy he wants should be off-limits.
Zane Kavanaugh is floundering, and there's only one man who soothes the storm inside him.
Reeling from an assault that landed him in the hospital and the painful estrangement from his family since coming out, Zane is trying to get his feet under him and find his independence. He moves in with a roommate and searches for a job, all while recovering from a fractured arm and cracked ribs. None of that hurts as much as the emotional damage he's suffered. When he connects with Dr. Paul Johnston outside of the ER, he's drawn to the man's calm, collected manner. It doesn't hurt that Paul's lack of experience with men is sexy as hell, and so are his over-the-top responses when Zane gets his lips on him.
There's no right time to fall in love.
Paul is afraid to start a relationship, and Zane can only handle so much more rejection. Will these two find their perfect moment, or will they realize you can't choose when and how you fall in love? If Paul can't take a risk, he may have to choose: the career he loves or the first man to capture his heart.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024So often when one thinks about and older and younger relationship a persons thought jump to the older being the aggressor. That is not always the case, sure in this story, the younger was seen as attractive by the older but he was so far in the closet and so confused he saw no chance of anything happening. DJ wrote a good story with lots of tension and I feel that it was right on, with how things can go. Very enjoyable.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2019This is a very sweet story of two men one Zane who very young who his father who throw him out because he was gay. He went to his mother she wouldn't speak to him, & his father-in-law who beat him up they left him in the street blooded & alone. He called for an ambulance & was taken to a hospital where he met an ER Doc. Paul Johnston, who was very taken by him. The Doctor is also gay, but he is having a lot of trouble accepting it. They get to know each other & fall in love. There is a lot of trouble for the Doc, with a chance of him losing his job, as long as he gives up boy, he finally realizes he can have both his job & Zane. D J Jamison really did write a sweet story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2018Two books in to this series, and I am a DJ Jamison fan.
This older man/younger man (18 years between them) romance managed to side-step the potential ickiness of this trope especially since in the previous book, one of the heroes managed to creep Gage and Ben out (the first couple in the series) with his behavior.
There are a lot of things stacked against Paul, the older doctor, but when Zane decides Paul is for him, there’s no denying him. Well there IS, it’s just Zane is a force of nature. Zane is awesome. You can’t not love Zane and see how Paul finally get over his blocks. Another perfect romance by DJ Jamison.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2019There is likely more going on in this book than there needs to be even though the topics here are interesting.
The central romance between Zane and Paul is engaging. With the other plot lines of the sexual harassment accusation and the family drama, those characters and moments needed more depth to fulling engaging and Zane's friends did not always act consistently.
So, this book ended up just being okay.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2019This book in this series has got to be my favorite one of all! I don't know why, but the characters and story line was amazing! I really enjoy books that take place in the hospital, and always hate when a MC is up against losing their job, but I thought this was a sweet book with two guys who fall in love!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2019Fun age gap story between newly-divorced ER doctor Paul and Zane, a victim of a violent anti-LGBT assault by his stepfather. Paul initially resists the advances of the young man who was briefly his patient in the ER, but Zane is persistent... Ben and Gage (from Heart Trouble - HH#1) are here to offer support to Zane, who turns up the heat on Paul. The prescription written is for a love potion that must be filled... despite an obstacle or two.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2018This book is far superior to the first one, Jamison digs deeper into the psyche's of her characters and brings their pain to front. Paul's conflict between his job, his future and his attraction to Zane makes for a much more interesting and powerful story than in Heart Trouble.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2019Loved the characters and was super thankful that there wasn't a lot of angst in this book. Just the right amount of misunderstandings. Great read. Will look forward to reading the rest in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab
I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one, I can only hope it's Xavier's story!
Paul and Zane had to work real hard to get their HEA and even though I thought Zane was a bit stroppy sometimes, he was still worth the effort. Scorching sex scenes too even with the laughter!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining story
Interesting characters and storyline, a lot of emotional issues, ups and downs, abuse, nosy friends, healing, and more make this an entertaining story. Paul and Zane meet under one of the worst situations but find an unexpected connection. Both are going through an emotional upheaval but find solace in their friendship that slowly becomes passionate and eventually leads to a sweet love.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars.. my heart goes out to Zane..A great story.
4.5 Stars ★ A great book. I loved the characters and yes Dr Mark gets his redemption back from book 1 in this series. Well sort off he definitely takes his time about it. Just a matter of getting his priorities right. Gage and Ben hover over Zane which drives him crazy lol. I'd love to see a photo of Pokha Dot, the dog, she'd definitely had fun with exploring Mark's house especially his shoes. A beautiful ending for these two. I've already read Xavier's story and loved it as well, more than this one.
Dr Mark 39 was fresh out of being in the closet all his life and finally divorced.
Zane 20 yrs was in hospital because of his stepfather bashing him for being gay. That had been 2 weeks now Zane was moving into a new place with a nursing student, Xavier. A few volunteers from the hospital helping included Dr Mark.
A complaint at the hospital had Mark on leave while under investigations again.
