Bitten (Terrin Pass Pack Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 407 ratings

Kicked off the ranch after coming out to his parents, Josh finds himself seeking refuge at his grandfather's cabin deep in the forests of Montana. The escape gives him time to clear his head and figure out a new direction for his life.

What he didn't expect was for his peaceful vacation to take a violent turn. When attacked by a wolf while he's hiking, Josh figures his luck couldn't get any worse. That is until he meets Kurt.

Kurt is the alpha of the Terrin Pass Pack, and he knows that it wasn't a normal wolf that bit Josh. Defending Josh from danger is now his only concern, but in doing so, he risks losing his heart to the man he's supposed to protect.

When menacing forces threaten them both, Josh must come to accept that everything in life isn't as it seems. Things do go bump in the night, and more lingers in the moonlight than he ever imagined.

Emotions are high as the two fight off the evil around them, but as they lean on each other for support, they find that together they can face anything life throws their way.

I haven't read many shifter novels, but I liked this one best out of the few I have read. There isn't mpreg in it, not that mpreg is a bad thing, it's just hard for me to wrap my head around. Good story, good resolution. I liked the characters.

I really enjoyed E.M. Leya's newest story. I have always liked shifter stories and I liked that she approached it in a different way, not relying on the destined mate trope (which I do really love!) but instead having her characters have to work for their relationship. Josh is reluctant to trust both Kurt and what is happening to his body as he changes and that sets up a fair amount of tension between the characters. At times, I wanted to smack Josh for his doubts, but at the same time I think E.M. Leya did a great job of establishing just how difficult it would be to wrap your mind around an entirely alien way of thinking, one that Kurt can't really explain to him because he was born a shifter. By making the characters work for their relationship, it made their trust in each other at the crisis point of the book much more believable. I look forward to revisiting these characters, seeing their emotional development, and being introduced to the mates of the other characters we met along the way! Overall, this was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.

I really liked this take on shifters, that you can become one as well as being born one. All of the shifter books I've read previously have been strictly 'you can only be born a shifter'. I loved how the author approached it as well, with pretty much the whole story being about the emotional and psychological processing the main character goes through as he becomes a shifter. The way the love story/ romance was interwoven into that process was really moving and satisfying. You get to know and fall in love with both characters and really feel their connection. That makes their hea very emotionally satisfying. I definitely recommend.

If the alpha can sense where every member of their pack is, at any given time, why was it difficult for Kurt to find Tyler through his two friends? Or had Tom and Keith severed their ties to the pack? And so, wouldn’t Kurt, as alpha, have felt that, and been concerned over them unexpectedly breaking the pack bond, especially being the conscientious alpha that he is?

Then there was Josh - I can understand some level of disbelief that the paranormal is real, but this got to be ridiculous. He saw Kurt shift multiple times and yet still blathered on about thinking it was all some sort of hoax. I lost a healthy dose of respect for his character the more he insisted that his own experiences were all a part of some elaborate ruse being played by Kurt and his grandfather.

I had read the second book in the series and liked it so much I came back and purchased the first book. So, yes, they can be read as stand-alones. Having met Kurt, the pack alpha and Josh, his mate in book two, it was really nice to read their backstory. Of course, if I'd read them in the correct order, I would've known their story before reading book two. Oh well, this was a great story about a human man being tossed from his family because he told them he was gay, retreating to his grandfather's cabin in the woods to figure out his future and what happens as he is bitten and transformed by a rogue wolf shifter into one himself and helped to adjust by the local pack alpha. Because the story feels so easy to believe, I want to say that Ms Leya sure did her research. Of course, it is fantasy, but the details and descriptions are so believable that I think maybe I need to go to Montana to visit this wolf pack!

This book was surprisingly good I really liked that it wasn't instant sex instant love . I also liked the fact that Kurt made Josh learn how to control his wolf you don't see that often and when you do it's not as nicely as in this book . I was also wondering if there was more to Kurt's dad and Josh's grandad than just a great friendship and it that was why Josh's grandad had no problem with Josh being gay .

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome but very different
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 28, 2018
I don't write reviews that basically tell you the book blurb again or that are a synopsis of the book. I just tell you the things I'd want to know if I was deciding whether to read this book or not.

I shall start by saying I have read a lot of the authors books as well as lots of other shifter books by other authors. I have never read a shifter book by this author before. I took a leap of faith and oh was I glad I did.
This book was different as it was written from a different perspective and I really really enjoyed it.

This is a book with a love story. It's a book about a couple of shifters falling I love and eventually mating. There is the usually basis of one being rejected by family but finding his true mate and the necessary HEA as required in this day and age. There is also a twist, where someone evil wants to kill one of the couple, with a bit of kidnapping thrown in.
However, to me ALL of that was secondary to the way the author wrote the book. I have to be careful I don't give any spoilers here but the excitement to me was how it was written. The way the author describes the events and how Josh feels as he goes through the plot, are so unusual but so gripping I couldn't stop reading. This was a start to finish in one sitting book. No breaks for sleep, chores, tv or anything. I just couldn't put it down. It wasn't that I wanted to find out whether Josh and Kurt got together, that was a given. It was what Josh would feel and how is brain would deal with everything that had me gripped.

Can't praise this book enough. I highly recommend this even if you've never read any of the authors other work or, if you've never read a shifter book before.
In case you're wondering, yes there is sex, man on man sex and even wolf sex but, none of it is graphic and quite a lot of it is needed for the storyline.
Don't waste a minute, start reading and ENJOY ❤

I don't know why i haven't read this series before now. I enjoyed this first book immensely, the dynamic of wolf packs and mates. I loved the dynamic between Kurt and Josh. The immediate attraction. The storyline was awesome, with suspense and drama thrown in. I'll certainly be looking forward to reading more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great start to a new series

Well, l have just read my first ever shifter story.
l am happy to say that l really enjoyed it.

l'm glad that the author gave a lot of background information
about shifters, wolves , and wolf packs.
She didn't just presume that the readers knew about alpha wolves,
their senses and what to expect of a shifter.

l liked both the main characters Josh and Kurt,
how Josh struggled greatly with acceptance of the scary events in his life.
His awful homophobic parents and devoted grandfather, setting him on an unexpected path in his life.
Meeting Kurt had affected him deeply , suddenly finding himself free, Josh wanted to know him closely.

Kurt was a true Alpha, strong and caring , and becoming attracted to Josh.
Unexpected events, and constant danger around Josh ment that Kurt had to stay close by.

l really enjoyed the developing feelings between these two men,
especially the parts when they were unable to resist one another.
lt was a heartwarming love story , that had some strange goings on.

l look forward to the next book in the series.

I've enjoyed wolf shifter stories for a long time. This one is up there with the good ones. Plenty of love but not overly sappy. Just enough tension to stop things from getting too stale. Looking forward to reading the others in the series.
