In the Near Future
The government has been overthrown in favor of a corporate control state. Byzantine rules, hidden costs, and tiered services are the new normal. Glittering towers soar high above the turmoil. Corruption, erosion of free press, riots, elitism, and the wealth gap form the basis of the Pile: the multi-tiered strata of New White Sands City.
Where the Pace is Fast and the Action is Cyber-Chic.
New White Sands City Cyberpunk is a series of interconnected standalone novels. Each story slowly unravels the bigger picture. Corporations move to take sides, some not even under their own control in the shifting chiaroscuro of cybernetic smoke and mirrors. The lines are drawn in a civil war of a new era, but, this time, the fragmented nation might be lost like so much corrupt data to the archives of manipulated history.
The players are set, and the game is afoot. One side takes all.
The Mem-Wiped Assassin
Raven is on the clock to find a buyer for a stolen data core before the hunting mega-corp finds her. Routine really, except no one will touch a product that comes with a built-in death sentence.
The Cop on the Edge
A new case leads back to his partner's unsolved murder. If Rico wants answers, he’ll have to save a girl at the heart of the firestorm. The race is on to find her, and the streets are about to burn.
The Hacker Prodigy
Jimmy wants out of the game, but being a hacker prodigy with a reputation means that, sooner or later, someone’s going to force him back into the field. Unfortunately for Jimmy, that day has come.
The Military Cyborg
Major Baylen Lee is a relic from the past, a link to the old government and its secrets. Now he has a narrowing window of time to rescue his daughter from men willing to do anything for information.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"The world Bender builds is well thought out and reminiscent of William Gibson's Bridge Trilogy with a splash of Mad Max. New White Sands is a place where futuristic technology intersects with people living on the edge. Its population can be both cut throat and fiercely loyal, adhering to rules spoken and unspoken." --Michael Prelee, Author of Milky Way Repo

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2017I met Ron at MidAmericon II in Kansas City this past August and we chatted about his writing. He mentioned the prequel to the White Sands City series was available on his website, so I gave it a read. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story, so when I was informed that Shadow's Fall was available I was eager to read it. I must say I was not disappointed. Ron's writing is tight, and his ability to tell a story is top-notch. I'm enjoying discovering more about the world he has created, and the people that inhabit that world. His vision of a dystopian future where mega corporations rule the world, where the Ganglands are inhabited by the most violent of the dispossessed is very well written and I felt that his characters were believable, as well as the future technology he introduces. I highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2017Fast and furious sci-fi action in a post-Trumpalyptic world where corporations rule, the climate has been nuked and augmentations are common place. Our protagonist is world-weary Raven, who watches herself in mirrors for style guides even as she's shooting at the bad guys. She keeps her hulking partner, Brios, on a tight leash but they are a team, even as she vacillates between deciding to bed the big lunk or not.
Raven is good at her job - which seems to be low level grafting - because she has amped reflexes and oodles of combat experience, but when a grab puts her on the wrong side of some heavy duty corporate types, she finds herself in a dangerous detective game that unexpectedly sheds light on her past and makes her question everything she thought she knew about herself.
There is a lot of fun technology in "Shadow's Fall" and lots of people die because while the morality is questionable but the firepower isn't. It rockets along, Raven is a strong female role who does not read like a guy in drag and the ending is climatically satisfying.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2016In a future where corporations govern, eCash rules, and technology is everything, Raven steals, kills, and shops while looking damn good at it. When she acquires some explosive data, and the scrutiny of powerful adversaries who know more about her than she does, she discovers that having the right friends, the right family, is the most valuable prize of all.
A fast paced cyberpunk action adventure that twists and turns, taking you down dark, dirty underworld paths and up to lofty, bright corporate corridors. The vast cast of characters pop, springing alive to populate a fully realized New White Sands City and one crazy world. A fantastic beginning to an ambitious series, highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017This is a very detailed book that takes a few chapters to get into, but once you are in, you are captivated. At first, the main character seems narcissistic, vain, and materialistic. There are explanations for those attitudes later, so I am glad that I didn't give up in the beginning. If anything, this book seems a little too packed with information and action. It could have easily been divided into two sequential stories, although I am not usually a fan of drawing out a book with a cliff hanger to a sequel when it just seems like a way for more revenue. When you think the story is more or less resolved, you still have about 30% of the book to go. And there is a lot going on in that 30%. I understand that each of the books in the New White Sands universe can be read as stand-alone novels. I will be interested to read further into the world to see how it continues to play out.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017*** I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. ***
In a future of uncertainty, Raven, a thief, assassin and many other things gets caught up in something she may not be able to handle. Now, she is used to the frying pan... not the whole fire. She comes across a data core that starts this mess and this could end up killing her if she's not careful. Once she finds out even an inkling of what is on it she's running because the original owner wants it back IMMEDIATELY and is willing to use excessive force to get it. Seems the enemy knows a lot about Raven, more than she knows about herself and her past.
Now this isn't just a job or a paycheck, it is about living to the next day and everyone's freedom. Also, finding out all these underlying conspiracies. Is anyone really as free as they think they are? Or is this all just a fancy illusion?
This book really reminded me of a mix between The Asanti Series by David Finn and The Resident Evil movies, plus something completely new. Between the futuristic technology, chemicals and the female assassin that doesn't need anybody, but has a team anyway. When reading it, you don't know what is going to happen next because there is so much action with all the fireplay and gunplay. Violence is as common as ecash if not more, this is where corruption rules and bad things happen... most don't bat an eye. This is normal for these characters.
There are so many layers in this book that it was fascinating and I gobbled it up like a starving man at his last breakfast. So many conspiracies that lie in one book of fiction. There is politics in here as well, so many cities and areas that are governed by corrupted people. What is sad and scary is that something like this is totally possible in the real world... all this hero worship of a bad guy.
In some areas it's like concentration camps for people, robots and clones. Plus they sacrifice each other to stay alive. What is more mess up about this is that the clones don't even see what is morally wrong with this. They have nothing that says that is wrong in their processors. This is just one of the multilayers within the book and one of the things Raven finds out about on a mission and gets angry over and I agree. Then again why would a monster make clones morally right anyway?
Even with all these layers and conspiracies, I still felt like there was some things missing that could have made this book better. If there was more depth to the characters then I would have been able to give a better star rating. I wanted to know more about Raven's mental issues and more about her past and the ending of the book. I want more details on her partner Brios, who is a part of her team who we barely got to know. I feel like we did this huge adventure with strangers and I want more. The 292 pages were simple not enough for me and so I guess I'll have to read the next book to get to know them better.
There are many twists and turns in Shadow's Fall that make it a really worthwhile book to read. Oh and if I am honest I kinda feel like it is a book that has the idea of "every man for himself" if ya know what I mean. Has got the Lord Of The Flies feel, at least in SOME areas, i.e. the Ganglands.
You'll have to read it to find out for yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2017Great snarky, sassy, kickass heroine with a few issues. Great heros and villains too. You don’t need to read the novella Snitch before this one but I would recommend it. Introduces characters in this book and the world. Worth the read!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2017I found this futurist cyber punk novel to be very intriguing. The story kept me involved until the very end.

4.0 out of 5 stars An entry book to a possibly a great serie
In a dystopian world, where according to the level at which one lives, violence might be the rule, is Raven a hitgirl, may be a thug or a violent lunatic? The plot takes sometimes to unravel but this SF story is rich of inventions and opens unfortunately on a world (possible) where corporations know no limits to their greed and their quest of ultimate if not total power on the market and full control of the customers and their world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good cyberpunk
The author creates a vibrant and believable world with interesting characters that you sometimes like and dislike. So good that I bought the next 2 books in the series, and the only reason I haven't bought the last 2 books in the series is because they are not available in print.

4.0 out of 5 stars I already want more!
If you're a fan of cyberpunk or you'd just like to try out the genre, this would be a great place to start. The world of New White Sands is well worth the visit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cyberpunk is not dead. Yet.
At last!
A book that lives up to it's genre designation, Cyberpunk!
Not Cyberpunk with Elves, not Cyberpunk with Magic, not Emo-Cyberpunk, not any old sci-fi/techno-thriller Cyberpunk or nothing to do with cyberpunk Cyberpunk and most importantly...not bad punning running gag based Cyberpunk!
The real thing.
After hearing so many times that this was a dead genre I decided to re-visit some old classics and then search out new and undiscovered works.
Great, the old ones stand up and still work. Not so great, I guess I have to agree that Cyberpunk as active fiction genre is pretty much dead.
I am so happy Ron Bender's books at least eased my suffering and offered the hope of more to come. I have really enjoyed this story and it's interlaced follow ups so far.
The books themselves I found well written with few typos to complain about. The secondary characters could do with a little more depth but if you read the other books you can see that there is every chance they could all get the spotlight at some point.
If you want Noir-ish full Cyberpunk action this is about as good as it gets these days.
Read it now.
