Streets of Fire: New White Sands City Cyberpunk Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 45 ratings

A cop on the edge, a partner's unsolved murder, and one last chance for justice.

Rico Suarez is a good cop walking a fine line. When a high-profile vigilante gets diced up on New White Sands City streets, it’s just another day in UnderCity Precinct Three. But when the case is pulled and handed to a mega-corp to deal with in private, it’s just another day for everyone but Rico. He knows this corporation – it’s the same one that buried his partner’s murder eight years before.

Back on the streets, the game is changing. There’s a witness to the murder: a young girl connected to the Yakuza, a runaway. If Rico wants answers, he’ll have to save the girl at the heart of the firestorm. The race is on to find her, and the streets are about to burn.

For Rico, one thing is clear; walking the line was never enough.

New White Sands City Cyberpunk is a near-future science fiction series of interconnected standalone novels. Streets of Fire is the second in the series, but book one is not required reading.

In the Near Future

The government has been overthrown in favor of a corporate control state. Byzantine rules, hidden costs, and tiered services are the new normal. Glittering towers soar high above the turmoil. Corruption, erosion of free press, riots, elitism, and the wealth gap form the basis of the Pile: the multi-tiered strata of New White Sands City.

Where the Pace is Fast and the Action is Cyber-Chic.

New White Sands City Cyberpunk is a series of interconnected standalone novels. Each story slowly unravels the bigger picture. Corporations move to take sides, some not even under their own control in the shifting chiaroscuro of cybernetic smoke and mirrors. The lines are drawn in a civil war of a new era, but, this time, the fragmented nation might be lost like so much corrupt data to the archives of manipulated history.

The players are set, and the game is afoot. One side takes all.

Rico’s the sort of cop that shoots first and sorts out evidence afterwards. When his behaviour displeases his corporate overlords, he finds himself adrift, picking up threads from an cold case, a case that resulted in his old partner’s unsolved death. So, in typical Rico style he goes all in, guns blazing, piling up the bodies and pushing New White Sands City to the brink, and beyond, for a chance at summary justice.

A fun ride and I loved the subtle interconnectivity with Shadow’s Fall (the first in the series). Looking forward to The Last Hercules.

A cop who won't stop, a corporation covering up dirty secrets and a mob in an all out struggle for control make this one hard to put down. This is only the second instalment of the New White Sands City series (not including the free preview novella from the mailing list) but it's fast becoming one of my favourite places to visit. The compelling characters and the multifaceted world they inhabit, it's all crafted into an adventure that will have you repeating "just one more page".

4.0 out of 5 stars Add quite a bit of depth to New White Sands

4 stars, I love when you can follow a single character like it's your story but when some of the clues the character sees that isn't passed to the reader you really don't get the full impact of a scene. The story is very one sided, like you watching through a closed circuit camera and only get part of the story.
