    I have read all of NM Catalano's books. They are amazing. When I started seeing teaser's for the new book and read an excerpt from it. I was hooked and could not wait for it to release.

    Gemma has lost everything because of her swindling ex husband. She is a brilliant lawyer and has now interviewed with the guy her husband took for over 3 million dollars. She has nothing else to lose and hopes that he will offer her a job.

    Alexander offers her a job but he has a few ulterior motives. He wants to find out if she was involved in her husband's scheme and he wants her.

    I loved this story. Gemma is a strong independant woman and goes after what she needs. Alexander is a business man that knows how to get what he wants. The chemistry between them is off the charts. There are many twists and turns. I was blown away by the description of the scenes. I have a feeling the next book is gonna be doozy. I am anxiously awaiting the next book.

    I am giving this first book a 3. I will break this down by bad and good.

    Bad:
    There were definitely some grammar errors, which always make me cringe, like "me finger" when it should be "my finger". Miss spelled words and grammar errors cause me to lose my focus and become frustrated. Another negative would be the first night Black broke in and Gemma just let him blindfold her, tie her up and " f" her then fell asleep not knowing who he was, knowing the mob is gunning for her as well as possibly hundreds of other people her husband swindled. I know this is a dark romance, but I find it better and darker when emotions like " fear" are more realistic. And finally, I am having trouble liking either character. Gemma is supposed to be an intelligent lawyer, but seems to make pretty bad choices and acts weak. Black has only shown he is powerful, revengeful and arrogant. Although I love all those qualities in the male character, I also want some redeeming qualities to latch on to.

    Good:
    I like the premise of the story. It is a bit different than most. Getting past the bad, I do feel like there is chemistry between Gemma and Black, and the steamy scenes were hot. I like the twists so far and the ending has set up a good starting point for book two.

    Am I happy that my book group picked this series? As always, yes, as it helps me find new authors to read. I just hope book two will help me like the characters and the author more.

    I've had this book sitting in my TBR for quite a while and now I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner. This book is the first part of a three part story and it is really well written with the author producing an amazing amount of chemistry and heat between Alexander and Gemma. Although this book is short (hence the 4 stars) I still recommend it if you're into dark and troubled alphas.
