Savage Games: An Academy Bully Romance (Bastards of Boulder Cove Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 4,320 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author, Rachel Leigh, comes an academy bully romance full of suspense and sin.

I shouldn’t be here.

Let me rephrase that…

I never wanted to be here.

I didn’t ask for any of this.

Not the society I was born into.

Definitely not the academy I’m supposed to attend.

And sure as hell not the group I’m forced to play nice with.

Unfortunately, one too many school suspensions has catapulted me into the world I swore I’d never live in.

Boulder Cove Academy: Where The Lawless reign and those beneath them are ash between their fingertips.

The three leaders of this place—Crew, Jagger, and Neo—have always been an aching thorn in my side.

When things get ugly, I have no choice but to turn to the boys I loathe.

Acceptance means I become a slave to their darkest desires.

Bones to rattle.

A mind to shake.

In the thick of it all, I begin to see the truth. They never intended to help me.

They only want to destroy me.

One game at a time.

Savage Games is a why choose romance where the main character gains multiple love interests over the course of three books. Please advise this series is a dark romance with bully elements.

Buckle up. This new RH bully romance series from Rachel Leigh is going to be a wild ride. After being kicked out of every other option, Scarlett is forced to attend Boulder Cove Academy. A place she swore to never go, run by the guys who have made her life a living hell. If you like: •Mystery •Spice •Jealous •Questions loyalties •Secret societies •More than one •Exhibitionism …this book is for you I’m loving this series so far. Scarlett is badass and doesn’t accept being treated poorly. She fights back. I kept on changing my mind about what was happening and what I wanted to happen. Also, The. Library. Scene. I’m here for the ride and can’t wait to see where this series goes with book 2, Vicious Lies.

Whew, I am so glad I gave this book a shot! I can’t tell you how much fun it was to read Savage Games and what a relief it was to find a book I actually wanted to read today. It’s been one of those weeks where I attempt to star a book and within just a first few pages my brain is saying "nope, not in the mood for that" or "ugh annoying, no thank you". I had a hectic work schedule this week (including work on Saturday/today) yet I started reading Savage Games this morning and voila, just finished it. I am already so pumped for the next book.

Who I would recommend this book to:
-Readers who love bully books (but don't feel like they need heavy dub-con/I personally felt the triggers in this particular enemies to lovers/bully type book are quite tame).
-Readers who want to root for a reverse harem
-Want attractive characters but with character depth and individual personalities? This is your book.
-Enjoy mystery unfolding/guessing who is doing what and enjoying the guessing game
-Academy/living on campus/hazing themes--if that excites you, dive on in.
-Readers who want a page turner that is fun to read while also ending in a way that has you on the edge of your seat with anticipation for the next installment

Things I liked best in this book:

-The depth for each of the characters
    -The plot
-The fact that I couldn’t guess every single thing that would happen—we are kept on our toes and are not completely given everything already at the end of book 1
-An ending that leaves the reader excited but not in pain or in massive anxiety
-The bullying is done well and with enough of a unique convincing motive for each character that it feels authentic; yet rarely crosses the line in a way that is completely morally impossible to redeem—I dig it.
-The pacing in this book is chef’s kiss.

*The playlist included in the beginning of the book was absolutely fantastic to pair with the reading experience.

    Things I didn't love:

Hmmm...it's actually hard to come up with much. I would say there were a few grammatical errors, things like a quotation here or there that was missing it's partner; nothing that took me out of the story for long and I would happily buy this book again with that knowledge and not be bothered a bit. I was apprehensive during the first portion of Savage Games thinking that many elements are so similar to other enemies to lovers/bully themed books, and yet by the half way point I was so far over that worry due to the simple fact that this plot and the depth of the characters are well written to the point of feeling absolutely original. With that being said, there are more than a few elements, situations and even plot points that I have read in other books but again, it really isn't bothering me at all, especially since with common themes and sharing genres, we are bound to find similarities.

This has all the great elements to a great series. Likable characters, alphahole, secrets, lies, steam, and why choose. Scar is a strong FMC, and I love that she fights back. Neo is quite annoying so I hope we get a different version of him in the next book. Crew is showing some backbone finally, and Jagger seems to just go with the flow. I have some thoughts on what is happening and who we need to worry about, but I’m hoping I’m wrong and I get a good shock when we get some answers. On to book 2!

I absolutely devoured this book! I knew going in from the tropes that I was going to enjoy this book but the storyline and character building absolutely consumed me. I have so many questions after that ending and I’m dying to start Vicious Lies!

Scarlett has recently been forced to attend Boulder Cove Academy after recently getting expelled from two of her previous school. She has been getting pranked for years by the boys who she once played with. Her parents are hoping once she attends Boulder Cove she will learn her places in this new secret society. There are strict rules the lawless (Neo, Jagger, and Crew) enforce at this academy and as long as you follow them, you won’t have to face any consequences. Scarlett has no interest in this new society or leaving her best friend behind but she’s out of options. She knows once she attends the school the 3 boys from her past will be there and they’ll be seeking revenge. Not knowing who to trust and being outcasted constantly can she survive the school year?

I absolutely loved Scarlett’s character! She’s strong willed, caring, and remorseful! There are secrets in her past that have her doubting self but she knows her truths and is determined to come out on top! I loved the dynamic between all of the guys! Neo is your typical alphas-hole and is the cruelest in the bunch! Crew despite disliking her has always had a soft side when it comes to Scarlett and their past connection often shines through. Jagged is still a bit of a mystery! He is willing to follow Neo and continue to put her in her place but is also willing to hear her out! I can’t wait to see how their relationship dynamics grow! These 3 boys are viciously brutal and they have a lot to make up for with everything they have put her through!

Overall, I highly recommend giving this dark bully romance a read! If you like academy enemies to lovers romances with mystery and suspense then this book will have you in a chokehold!! I can’t wait to devour the next two books!

Written at 65% - Honestly I can’t tell whether or not I like this book. It has alllll the elements that I typically love (i.e. friends to enemies to lovers, second chance, angst & hateful lusty smex, degradation, suspense) but for some reason I just don’t feel the chemistry. Don’t get me wrong, the smuttty scenes are very nice, they just don’t feel like the same characters when on of those scenes occurs..
but what really gets me is wtf is up with a society where only the elder born males are the Lawless. So what happens on the years when there weren’t 17-18 (since alllll these kids are juniors and seniors). And just the whole hierarchy truly doesn’t add up all the way here. Maybe if we saw the top of the pyramid??? Idk.

    More review to come…..

This book is the first book in this series Bastards of Boulder Cove #1, it is a dark bully, reverse harem romance that will keep you on your toes and turning the pages until the very end.

Scarlett is a tough chick and after being made to attend the academy she has the attention of everyone especially the guys, Neo, Crew and Jagger. This group of friends all knew each other when they were younger and after a tragedy happened these guys all have it out for Scar one way or another. Scarlett has to prove herself and it seems Neo wants to mess with her head even more than the others and he wants to break her into pieces.

I absolutely loved reading this book and I loved the characters and I especially loved Scarlett. I couldn't wait to see how this story was playing out and it was absolutely fantastic. I loved the way that this author writes and I loved all the twists inside. I loved how Rachel brought these characters to life and I loved the slow burn connection. This book has spice, suspense, angst and lots of darkness. I can't wait to read the second book and I highly recommend that everyone reads this book it will keep you hooked.

    4.5/5 rounded up.

Okay but this was actually so good? Definitely not what I was expecting but I could not put it down. Honestly unlike anything I’ve read before. Each characters started to make me suspicious and it’s hard to tell whose side everyone is on and I sense big drama coming up.

My only complaint is some of the ladder games are super juvenile, and after everyone made such a shrink about how dangerous they are and how people have died??? Just felt insubstantial.

Anywho, I cannot wait for the next book at the book!!

I have no idea how Rachell Leigh do it, but i symple read all her book in a blink of an eye. Seriously, the story it’s so captivating (and her write) that i deepened in her narrative and read it super fast.
What can i say about this one? For you that likes secret society, bully, RH and mysteries, this book it’s definitely for you. Even that story it’s almost a cliché: guys that dispise the FMC for a reason, a heroine that fight against them, bullying, attraction… even with all that, the story it’s really cool and i highly recommend and can’t wait for read the next book.
