Bourbon Bliss Kindle Edition
June Tucker doesn’t understand people. Numbers, data, and statistics? Those make sense. People? Not so much. In a town of Friday night fighters and moonshine-swilling line dancers, she’s the odd duck. And that suits her just fine. But her sister and friends are pairing off, and the change is unsettling.
George “GT” Thompson was at the top of his game—one of the best receivers in football. But a career-ending injury sidelined him for good. Now he’s hoping to find relief in the healing waters of this tiny West Virginia town. And maybe an idea of what life has in store for him next.
He doesn’t expect the no-nonsense girl at the hot spring, telling him he’s not supposed to be there. And pointing out his sizeable… equipment.
George is fascinated by June, with her head full of statistics and blunt honesty. He appreciates her in a way most others don’t. And when the local missing persons case takes a shocking turn, he’s by Scooby-June’s side as she digs for the truth.
He was her fantasy receiver. Now he’s her real-life boyfriend. But as their relationship heats up, June worries she’s not capable of the kind of intimacy he needs. He's convinced his campaign to get her out of her own head—to stop thinking and feel—will work. But his own crisis could drive them further apart.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2025As a mom of 2 daughters that are very similar to June, one diagnosed Autistic, I feel this book did justice to people who have unique abilities and see the world through a different lens. June may be one of my very favorite book heroines to date. And George! We need more Georges in this world. This book is fabulous! So much heart and compassion. I laughed so much too, per usual with any Lucy book! Thank you for the amazing treasure that is this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2020Obviously I’m walking into this series without having read the previous books, and thankfully the author was great about making it a true stand alone. There are clearly characters from the previous books, and while they did interest me (and make me want to read their books) it wasn’t overwhelming. This book was actually recommended to me because of June, our heroine, who it is kind of alluded to maybe being on the spectrum. I love reading books about people different than me, and this book was great about that.
Things I liked:
I loved June. She is a bit awkward, and blunt, but she’s also so smart and she cares about the people in her life. I like the way she is curious and always wants to find the answers to things she doesn’t understand. And George, man he’s just great with June. They compliment each other so well. I was worried it was going to feel like George was just her teacher, or that he was the ever patient guy who tolerates her quirks, but it was the total opposite of that. He’s truly interested in her little facts, he saw that she liked math and sports and came up with dates that were enjoyable to both of them, he doesn’t push her, he’s really a great compliment to her. I loved seeing them evolve. I liked the passion they had for each other as well.
The town itself is basically its own character. The people it the town are weird and quirky and often time hilarious. They also are really caring about the people who are in the town. There is an underlying mystery throughout this book, that is nicely resolved for now but will continue in the next book I assume. I liked that the mystery wasn’t overpowering to the story Of George and June, it was enough to be interesting and evoke feelings among the town, but not overpowering.
Things I didn’t like:
George’s assistant wasn’t as fleshed out as I would have liked, when she was on the page she seemed more like a caricature than a fully formed character. Her last interaction in the book, while necessary, I felt could have been fleshed out more and made to have a bit more impact.
Other than that I really just enjoyed the book as a whole, and definitely want to go back and read the earlier books.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2019This is the fourth book I have read in this series which I highly recommend. I love revisiting family members, especially the Bodines, who live in small towns like Bootleg Springs. Sisters Cassidy (dating Bowie Bodine and featured in Book 3) and June have been mentioned in each of the books, and now it’s time for June to get her chance at love, with one of her real-life heroes no less.
I loved the way Cassidy looked out for June, always included her, and made her feel special. I just wish June’s “quirkiness” was identified in the book as being a form of Asperger’s or a mild form of autism rather than “this is just the way she is.” The way she spoke, her literal interpretation of conversation, her thought process, her high level of intelligence, and her comfort with things familiar and routine, are all part of the condition.
I loved June in this story and can’t find one fault with her. She was loyal and loving and truly an inspiration. I admire a heroine who is smart and June had it in spades with her photographic memory of statistics and her mathematical genius. June didn’t have a mean bone in her body and I was so happy that she not only found love, but found it with the hot and handsome and very talented George “GT” Thompson!
GT stumbled into Bootleg to use the healing power of the hot springs for his injured knee and that is when he meets June. At first it was just a glance in the coffee shop, but then it was actually at the hot springs. This scene and many others had me laughing out loud and I loved the two of them together. My favorite scene in the entire book is when they were dancing, and how he understood her quirks and hesitation, and found a way to get through to her. They were two unlikely people who wound up being a perfect match.
Although he made very poor decisions regarding his finances and I didn’t like how passé he was about letting someone else handle all his affairs, especially since he retired and had time on his hands, I did love him as the hero of this story. He was genuine, warm, patient, caring, and, of course, a talented athlete as he played pro-ball. His relationship with June was so genuine, and I loved how he adored her and valued her as a person as well as all of her charming characteristics. I also admired how he reflected on the things he had either said or done, and how he could admit when he was wrong.
I loved how the Bodines and Devlin accepted GT and their ritual for it by tossing him in the lake. So funny! I mostly enjoy revisiting the family members, Scarlett, Bowie, Jameson, Gibson, Jonah, etc. Without giving too much away, the missing-person Callie story continues and brings everyone together; I am really looking forward to learning how it all plays out. I have been reading all of the speculations and I am sure Claire and Lucy are giggling as they are the only ones at this point who know the ending of book 6!
I like the fact Cassidy and her dad are on the police force and how they come together to support one another and try and solve the mystery, and how June also helped with the case. Also some funny, brave, daring, and bold moves on her part (like when she went into the Biker Bar). Go June!
This book was beautifully and brilliantly written and had me captivated from the very first page. I am hoping for a book 7 because so far, most of the couples are engaged or dating and there have been NO WEDDINGS!

Love this book from start to end! The way they have written both characters is truly beautiful but especially how they incorporated June's autism into the writing is truly special 🤍

3.0 out of 5 stars A weekend read.
I wish the writers would go beyond quirky nerds and sports heros. Have been reading the series in reverse order, and while each story is relatable enough, I think I am also tired of no mention of race and the usual gender stereotypes. I like how the mystery is untangled book by book without making it distracting. I still hope for better writing especially when it comes to characters. The tropes of cute-meet and the defining arguments are all predictable but not boring. But somewhere the focus seems to be off. Nevertheless, it's a weekend binge.

5.0 out of 5 stars June and George
I absolutely love Juney! She’s genius level smart, determined, kind, and supportive of her friends, family and community. She’s so interesting and I like that she sees things differently than everyone else. I found her viewpoint refreshing and her bluntness was hilarious.
George is just a big teddy bear. Strong, loving, sweet and sexy. He really sees June for who she is and loves her completely. He’s a little lost now that his pro football career is over but he finds everything he didn’t know he was looking for with Bootleg Springs and June.
George and June are so perfect together. The support, love and patience George has for June is so sweet. Their first meeting was so funny and spot on for them.
I love how all June’s family, friends and the town accept her quirks. I fall more in love with Bootleg Springs every time I finish another book in the series. You also get more clues to the Callie Kendall mystery, partly from June’s detective work.
Full of laughter, hope, love, heat and an HEA.
