Bouncing Back: A Steamy Gay Romance (Wilde's Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 266 ratings

Between his time in the Marines and working as a bouncer at Wilde’s, Elliott Moore has seen it all. In his line of work, breaking up fights is business as usual. When he steps into a lovers’ quarrel one night, though, he finds himself running interference as a traumatized man tries to get rid of a persistent and occasionally violent ex-boyfriend.

Dr. Samir Ramezani has had enough. He just wants to move on from that toxic, abusive relationship, but his jerk of an ex isn’t ready to let him go. When Elliott offers to back him up, Samir is grateful for the help—and irresistibly drawn to the man with the big muscles and a soft touch.

Samir is terrified he’s just jumping from one bad relationship to another, but Elliott isn’t like men he’s dated before. He’s sweet, he’s gentle, and he’s a sucker for Samir’s beloved pets. And Elliott isn’t just protective of Samir—as the chemistry sizzles between them, he’s falling fast. It’s hard not to think this could be the real thing.

That is as long as the vindictive ex-boyfriend who knows all Samir’s weaknesses doesn’t find a way to sabotage it.

This Wilde’s novel is 57,000 words, and can be read as a standalone.

This is an M/M romance and standard romance tropes apply. It's well done for what it is. The characters are well drawn. The parts that are meant to be hot are hot. In between there are funny moments and sweet romantic ones. The trouble making cats especially were good for lots of laughs. There is a character with domestic violence in his past and it is handled sensitively and with a good understanding of how it works. The author really reinforces that past trauma can be overcome with time, a supportive partner and friends, and therapy if necessary. I like that in this and other books she has characters who are tough ex military guys but still go to therapy to deal with PTSD or other mental health issues.

The Wilde’s series is one of my favorite series from L.A. Witt and it’s been a couple of years since the last one, so I grabbed this. I did like this couple quite a bit. Elliott is retired military, now a bouncer at Wilde’s where we catch glimpses of Julien and Liam, which was nice. Samir catches his boyfriend Jesse, soon to be ex, cheating on him in the club but Jesse is an abuser. He gets tossed from the club but Samir ends up asking Elliott for help when he tells Jesse they’re breaking up. Naturally Elliott and Samir end up in bed and then continue seeing each other.

There’s more that happens involving Jesse of course but it takes a different direction than the usual violent stalker BF story. He’s still around and being a jerkwad through most of the book. I did really enjoy how the focus was more about effects on Samir and his relationship with Elliott, rather than just one big confrontation scene. I also loved the fact that Samir was a veterinarian with a Rottweiler and two Bengal cats, that Elliott liked too. I should have felt more angst than I did, considering the subject matter, but it didn’t pull me in enough to feel that strongly. It was a good story, they were super hot together and it was easy, enjoyable reading.

Written in dual first person POV (the only book in the series written this way). Good amount of M/M sexy times. Little bit of humor by way of crazy pets. I honestly just wished for more action - not that I wanted anyone to get hurt, but it was fairly anticlimactic. Still a good read. Can be read as a standalone.

A sweet and steamy romance with compelling characters and an engaging premise. I was surprised this one was told from two perspectives as none of the others were.

I enjoyed this book. The characters are nice and the animals are funny. I liked how their relationship worked for both of them and helped them both grow.

Samir and Elliott are so different but still have something in common. When they meet it's because Samir's boyfriend Jesse is assaulting Samir at Wildes, where Elliott works. Samir asks for Elliott's support when he breaks up with Jesse, but his now ex-boyfriend isn't happy about that break up and starts to stalk them. I thought this was a sweet read and I loved Samir and Elliott right from the start of the book. Samir's love for his dog and cats made me love him even more. Elliott is a gentle giant, ex-marine and bouncer at Wildes. He wouldn't hurt Samir even if his life depended on it. But sometimes the mind plays tricks on Samir, or a manipulative ex-boyfriend, who thrives on hurting and humiliating him. I would love to read more about those two.

L.A Witt rarely writes a book I don't enjoy and Samir and Elliot's romance is lovely.

Samir is still in an abusive relationship when the book opens but he ends it pretty soon after or tries to do so.

He and Elliot get together pretty fast but the instant connection is couched as a healing thing.

I love the conversations between our heroes but I do wish we knew more family backstory and that they both sought therapy.

    An enjoyable read overall.
