I am a writer of contemporary and speculative fiction and artist of all things monsters. I live to create new worlds and the people in them. Several of my books have been best sellers both nationally and internationally. I have also been a finalist in the LAMDA awards, the "Oscars" of gay literary works.

I do my best to write original stories with powerful characters and emotion as well as a fast paced plot. My goal isn't just to deliver a good story but to take the reader into the story and let them experience the characters as if they are right there with them.

While almost all my books have a romantic element, I will be the first to admit, they are not traditional romance. In fact, I'd like to think there is nothing traditional about them. And the stories I paint are done so way outside the lines of traditional genres.

One of my favorite things to do as a writer is push the boundaries of what makes a story and to deliver the unexpected and maybe even change the perspective of the reader.

My characters are more often than not, beautifully flawed, not alway the good guy, and make mistakes. Their stories will take dark turns which, in the end, make the light at the end of the tunnel all the more brighter.

    I am so glad I found this series.

    At first I felt plummeted into this world not sure what was happening, but as I kept reading, things became clearer.

    Slowly, I fell for the main characters. They all have their own conflicts and the tension of them played out is well done.

    There is a lot of kink in this. It is not a game. Not role-playing. But for real. My own preference is for real, not games. I love it a bit dark. I like fantasy scenarios with secrets, rules, and humans who are not quite human.

    The series is long and I am still reading. It just gets better and better.

Leo, a god in a human body who hosts a violent beast, the Chimera, is given a naïve young man who’s been genetically altered to produce a compound that the gods need in order to maintain longevity, health, and strength. Kaleb is a "doxie", males with the genetic chromosome combo XXY which predisposes a doxie to crave servitude. Doxies are able to produce the compound needed for gods to live. Leo agrees to “train” Kaleb for one year, ensuring that Kaleb will ultimate be the perfect source of the necessary compound and embrace his natural doxie nature. After reading book 1, The Chimera, I immediately bought the entire 10 book series to have in my library. I think Adrienne Wilder has created a world that I won’t mind re-visiting more than once. Be forewarned, Adrienne writes beautifully detailed, often painful and explicit scenes between consenting adult ‘more than human’ characters in her books. I’m loving Adrienne’s imagination!

    This was just what I’ve been looking for. It was great. It is part of a series and I’m definitely planning on reading the next instalments.

    I loved Kaleb so much, maybe because of the exact reasons Leo had. The fear, the pain, the way he react to everything that was going on it was amazing. The plot was great, and I can see there’s so much more that can happen in the future that I’m feeling so intrigued of what will come next.

    Leo was also a great character. I loved everything about him. He seem so full of contradictions, I can’t wait to know more about him. He could be so cruel and so caring at the same time. Both characters were so perfect, I loved them both just as much.

    Overall it was an amazing first instalment and I can’t wait to keep reading the next books in a series. This is definitely what I look from in a book when I’m feeling like reading something dark.

    I love how after chapter one of a book I immediately know I’m going to love this series! This is such a creative story. The plot is amazing and always keeps me guessing. We don’t get a lot of answers in this book, but I suspect with each book comes more information.
    This book introduces Kaleb (an innocent boy/man) to Leo (Half man half chimera). We don’t really know what’s going on upstairs in Leo’s head and he’s chewing on a lot of confusion. As we all are in this book. With each layer uncovered two more grow in its place and it’s so very intriguing.

    Loved it. I am eagerly awaiting the second book, fingers crossed it comes out soon. Adrienne Wilder has written some of my favorite books. I loved In the Absence of Light, and found it so unexpected. Seven and Contemporary Colors are great too. There's always an element of incongruence in Wilder's writing that keeps the stories from being predictable or easy. This book was no different. I'm loving where things are headed and somewhat appalled at myself that I can't wait to see just how sadistically uncomfortable things become for our oh so innocent and hapless red-headed doxie. Equally, though, I absolutely love that the prey is clearly on path to rule his hunter. I suspect they are both in for a hell of a surprise....so I really cannot wait for this story to unfold! As with all Wilder's other books, I actually bought this one despite my Kindle Unlimited membership. I'd happily pay much more for Wilder's books because they truly are satisfying reading on every level. Five stars. Or five swats with the cane. Whichever.

    This is a dark, erotic romance that is not for the faint of heart. I love dark and gritty romances, so this book was perfect for me. Kaleb is an innocent young man whose father sells him to a secret organization in order to settle a debt. Kaleb knows nothing about this situation until Leo arrives to collect him. The chemistry between Leo and Kaleb is spectacular. The sex scenes are kinky and intense and everything I want out of dark, kinky sex. I’m already addicted to this series.

    To start: I was pulled into this book from page 1. But when the writing is as good as Adrienne Wilder’s - it happens, and it’s expected.

    What I loved — LOVED — about this short novel was the twist on the mythology. It had echoes of Greek pantheon and depravity in the mix, but it was so originally done, with such beautiful and sexy twists that it left my mind in awe. This author plays with the paranormal in the most phenomenal ways. It got my mind in a lock, and books that can do this to me are the best.

    Then the heat levels? Ufff. Loved how believable some of the darker elements felt, the warnings of ‘this is not BDSM’, because no, there are plenty of no safe zones, so read TW if it applies, but to a reader like me - this was perfection.

    Most of all - I LOVED that a ~140 page novel could give me all these feels. I avoid short novels because most of the other authors don’t get enough time to get a reader like me into the ‘mood’. Somehow (and I applaud Adrienne Wilder) did it and not only just ‘did it’, I was thrown into the deep end and simply couldn’t get enough of this story and the potential of where it’s going to go.

    Outstanding. I loved every page. Congratulations to the author.
