Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn't stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. Jay has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and he also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press.

    The story was very well written. As a man who is attracted to older men myself, I loved that this wasn't a Daddy/Son fantasy, but instead was a story written about 2 men. One just happened to get older. The love scenes were very well written, erotic and tender at the same time. It was an amazing reason.

    This was my first Christmas book of the season: I know, Christmas is almost over.

    Anyways, I usually read this types of stories in the middle of the year, because they tend to be warm and fluffy. Full of good feelings, reconciling and happy endings. Family meetings, fateful encounters and joyful things. This story though... it felt superficial, to say the least.

    I couldn't get over the image of Archie as just an immature rich boy... he wasn't dislikeable, but he wasn't the least bit impressive, imo.

    The book in general made me feel a bit dumb, but I guess this was not to be taken seriously. Just a fast, easy read. With loooots of sex. That happens around Christmas time.

    3.5 Stars--I liked both Archie and Cal—I like that even though Cal doesn’t usually go for anything serious, once he realizes he’s really into Archie, he doesn’t shy away from being in a relationship with him. The only thing that gives him pause is Archie still being in the closet—he doesn’t want to pressure Archie, but he also knows a secret relationship can’t last. And he’s really sad about that because he recognizes that he wants a relationship with Archie.

    Archie is young and inexperienced, and that inexperience makes him feel awkward and intimidated at times. But I like that once he gains some experience or is given support or validation, Archie is actually quite confident. Meek isn’t Archie’s true personality, so as he gains confidence, he’s able to assert himself. I also like that Cal appreciates this too. He may have found the awkward Archie adorable, but he finds the confident Archie sexy.

    My main issue with this story is that we’re never really shown what it is Cal and Archie like about each other other than that they’re attracted to each other. Even when they just hang out together they don’t really have any conversations that show if they have anything in common. It’s mostly that they just feel comfortable being in each other’s company. But it didn’t feel like enough of a foundation for why we’re supposed to believe they’re in love.

    Jay Northcote has a way of introducing us to characters that are so completely different in background, age, looks and even sizes (and body paint) that you generally have to snicker about 10 pages into one of their books before you realize that these two are meant for each other.

    How this happens in this book is just as weird and wild as several of their other tomes, but this one surpasses cute and hot and loving and angsty in many ways.

    Post mid-20s cherub Archie gets thrown into a corporate party run by his money-is-everything parents and lands almost face-to-face up against Cal, a 29-year-old tattoo artist covered with ink who is clearly a member of the blue collar class.

    That they are at the same affair is because Archie's dad's firm happens to also be financial advisor to Cal, who hit the lottery and had plenty left over after paying his debts and his mum's mortgage to need that kind of help.

    Get it? You will, and the sub characters and machinations tossed in their path of we-must-keep-doing-this after an almost hilarious bathroom sexual encounter not 15 minutes after they meet at that party is just priceless.

    As is the rest of the book. Get it, no matter if it's not Christmas time. You will delight in unwrapping this present from a very gifted artist.

    Ich bin kein passionierter Weihnachtsgeschichtenleser, aber diese Geschichte kann ich nur jedem empfehlen.
    Archie und Cal lernen sich einige Wochen vor Weihnachten kennen, und sofort springt ein zaghafter Funke über. Was zunächst als lockeres Hook Up beginnt von dem beide nicht mehr als ein bisschen Spaß miteinander erhoffen, bekommt schon recht bald seine eigene gefühlvolle Dynamik.
    Die Story hat alles was eine gute Story braucht. Romantik, Wortwitz und ein gelungenes HappyEnd.
    Was mir an den Storys von Jay Northcote unter anderem immer so gut gefällt ist, dass er auf diese völlig überbewertenden theatralischen Dramen verzichtet. Es fokussiert sich vielmehr auf seine Protagonisten und deren persönlicher Entwicklung während der Story, und das macht er mit einer Perfektion, die mich als Leser einfach mitreißt und mitfiebern lässt.
    Was mir ebenfalls super gut bei Jay Northcote gefällt sind die Nebencharaktere, die in jeder Story, die ich bis jetzt gelesen habe (und das sind einige), ihre eigene - überwiegend positive – Rolle zugewiesen bekommen.
    Von mir bekommt die Geschichte rund um Archie und Cal wohlverdiente fünf Sterne und eine absolute Leseempfehlung.
    Die Story gibt es bis jetzt nur im Original, doch ich hoffe, dass sie eines Tages übersetzt wird – vielleicht ja im nächsten Jahr, passend zur Weihnachtszeit - denn es wäre schade diese Geschichte den deutschen Lesern vorzuenthalten.

I wish there was a sequel to this book as I'd love to see how far the story can go with these characters. I feel like I connected to Archie in some ways when I was younger myself. Fantastic read and would recommend it. I like the way it was written from both characters point of view but the story kept moving on.
