Wicked Secrets: an enemies-to-lovers college romance (Ridge Rogues Book 1) Kindle Edition
It was dark.
It was ugly.
It was my dirty secret.
No one knew the weight of the burdens that nearly consumed me. I lived with a singular focus—seeking revenge on my father. Then the new girl, Jolee Ward, moved into the apartment above me and shattered my carefully constructed world.
We were like oil and water. . . until we weren’t. Then we detonated like gasoline and fire, but the inferno threatened to destroy us both.
One night with her couldn’t erase years spent plotting.
Wellington University wasn’t big enough for the both of us.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2020What an amazing start to the new series by Renee Harless!! She has given us a tale of suspense, mystery, romance and of course, the importance of family, which is an integral part of all of her books. The setting for her latest book is a college near Boston, and her description of the campus was so accurate and vivid that I thought I was there on the quad, enjoying the warm Fall day. Jolee escaped her life in Alaska to be near her cousin and start over with determination and excitement for this next chapter in her life. Jolee is feisty, intelligent, goal oriented and goes after what she wants. She may not be like the other girls on campus, but she was her own person and refused to let anyone get her down. Men and romance were the farthest thing from her mind, until she bumped into the sexy and brooding Ford. She may have been blinded by his good looks, but his attitude turned her off and she wanted nothing to do with him. Or so she thought. Ford and his brothers were a tight knit group who were all the rage on campus. Girls followed them everywhere and were mesmerized by their sexy swagger and the air of mystery that surrounded them. Ford loved his family and they were everything to him, but he had secrets that he was unwilling to share with anyone. Until he met Jolee. She was beautiful, funny and he couldn’t stop thinking about her because she was too special to ignore. With all that was going on in his life, did he really have time to pursue her and make her his? "
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2023Wicked Secrets is a standalone book in the interconnected Ridge Rogues series, by Renee Harless.
Jolee has one goal when she travels from Alaska to Boston: escape her past and the invisible shackles her parents have locked on her. She quickly ticks off one of the Rogues, Ford. As much as they try to deny it, however, neither of them can fight the pull between them. However, Ford has other goals: take down his biological father and get his biological mother freed. As they avoid each other every day, every night, they find themselves in bed together. As they spend more time together, the feelings grow, until Jolee gives him an ultimatum. Will Ford choose correctly?
This is a super easy read that is spicy and will be a nice “intermission” for anyone who needs something quick to read in between longer series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020REVIEW ON MY BLOG
Our main character Jolee goes off to college. She's moving into her new apartment and accidentally runs into a hottie who lives in her apartment. He brushes her off and acts like a complete jerk. At the start of class, the same boy enters her classroom and immediately claims that she is in "his seat." A new enemy to lovers romance ensues.
Ford continues to taunt Jolee all throughout the semester. Their banter quickly turns to a wild flirtation and then to love. I am a sucker for an enemy to lovers trope. It is probably one of my favorite tropes of all time. Both main characters need to realize that they deserve love.
Ford has a dark past and is adopted. I loved seeing the dynamic of an adoptive family. It made for a really interesting premise. Of Boys and Men had a great way of showing that blood does not make a family. All of Ford's brother's would do anything for each other. I loved Ford's family.
I wish the story was not as predictable as it was. I really did not care for the drama in the story. I wanted more steamy moments than we were given. Parts of the book were pretty whiny. Jolee dreams of opening her own animal rescue one day. Having animals in the book made me smile a lot during those parts. I am a huge dog and animal lover.
The ending felt rushed to me. There could have been a twist at the end but it ended the way that you would expect it to. Of Boys and Men is a great book to read if you need a fast and easy read. The book is written in a dual perspective which kept me intrigued. I love hearing two sides to stories. I wish I could have seen more character growth between the two main characters. Both were a little overly dramatic. Overall, Of Boys and Men was an average read for me.

Oh, this is going to be another amazing series by this author, I can tell!! I'm already in love with Ford even though I'm old enough to be his Mama. #CougarsRule. I loved, loved loved, this story.
So, let's talk about our main characters, Jolee Ward and Ford O'Brien. Their first meeting does not go well at all. A combination of rogue luggage, rude glares, and dagger-like barbs set the stage for a semester of annoying the holy heck out of each other. But, of course, just like we did on the playground when we were kids, you pretend to hate the one you really have a crush on, right?
The push and pull between these two is just great! I've read stories where the back and forth just goes on way too long and by the time the characters finally get their act together, I've lost interest. Not in this case! It was perfect! The slings and arrows masking their undeniable attraction to one another, only fan the flames and KA-BOOM do they explode!! So HOT!!
Add to this story line, someone from Ford's life that has the power to ruin him, and a plan to turn the tables, and it adds a touch of thriller to this one too!
I cannot wait for the rest of this series and each of the brothers' stories!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enemies to lovers
The banter between Ford and Jolene is what’s kept me reading through this one.
It was a well written enemies to lovers read.
These two had an instant dislike for each other but couldn’t seem to stay apart... the need to seek out just to harass was too strong. The attraction was there.
I also liked the dynamic between Ford and his family... looking forward to reading their stories.
This was an enjoyable read but I felt that the last few chapters seemed a bit rushed in order to wrap up the story.
Give it a try... good start to a new series

5.0 out of 5 stars What an exciting start to this fantastic new series
I’ve always loved bad boys and the Ridge Rogues are just that. This book was everything I was hoping for and more. Jolee and Ford burnt up my kindle with their love to hate each other moments.
Neither character is looking for a relationship.
Both have a past.
They hate each other.
Can they fight the attraction they have for each other?
I’m not giving anything away. Highly recommend and looking forward to book 2
