- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2015Oh, I simply LOVED this book! Filled with quirky, unusual and lovable characters, wise, heart-centred messages and deeply spiritual themes, it's also fun and beautiful and... just awesome! Despite being a book for children, it's probably one of my favourite books of the year (and I read at least 3 or 4 books a week).
The entire world of humans is merely a story being told by an ancient, mysterious Storyteller to a race of blue monkey-like creatures, the Boons, on a faraway planet made of cheese. But the Storyteller is dying and Bozo, one of the Boons, is sent into the story to find what ails him. In the story Bozo meets Theo, a boy who recently awoke from a three-month long coma and has no idea who he is. The book is about the amazing adventures of Theo and Bozo as they search for the cure for what ails the Storyteller. Powerful spiritual and philosophical concepts are presented in simple, easy-to-understand metaphors. The book is also very funny and charming and it was impossible not to fall in love with the feckless Bozo and the thoughtful and well-mannered Theo.
This book is so much better than so many of the books for sale in the book stores that it's difficult to understand why it hasn't been snapped up by a publisher!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2009Mysterious foundling Theo has been in a coma for weeks, and on waking up cannot remember anything from his previous life. However, he is told by a bloon that this is because he has just been written into the story in order to save it as the storyteller is dieing. What follows is an amazing journey across the world, in order to find a cure.
This is a great book that I devoured in one sitting, and I would reccommend it those who also enjoyed The Great Good Thing by Roderick Townley.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very moral tale
Here is a moral tale for adults who would look through the eyes of a child… or is it a tale for children to be warned of adult humbug? Or there again might it be a reassurance - the twisting ‘turangalila’ story of humankind which never quite extinguishes itself?
‘Bozo’ is a fast-paced romp around the globe with echoes of Narnia, Candide, Around the World in Eighty Days, One Thousand and One Nights, but always with an allusion to our modern world’s inconstancy and contradiction just below the surface, waiting to hoist us back from its harum-scarum plot into an uncomfortable reality. Who ever you are, don’t think there isn’t something the Storyteller won’t find to reveal in the mirror. No-one is completely good and (almost) no-one is completely bad and no-one ever completely knows; perhaps that is Bozo’s most valuable message - “No-one can know the whole of the truth… We simply catch passing reflections of it and then make our best guess.” This is a wonderful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will Theo and Bozo save the world?
This book is about how friendship comes in into the eternal war between good and evil, and how Theo and Bozo will try to save the world. It is wonderful not only for children but also for adults. Tom's writing is amusing and touching. The characters are lovely. For example, the young nurse Sandra, kind and gentle, takes care of Theo while he is in a coma at the beginning of the story...You will find the adventures of the nine-year-old boy and his friend Bozo very funny and involving, and you will come to think about the damages pollution causes to the environment, and how sometimes our technologies spoil the simplest pleasures of life, but more importantly how people make each other suffer through war and all the things that come with it. The author has an internet site where you can find a blog and the audiobook recorded with the amazing voice of Emily Bennett who makes pages and characters come into life!
