Break: A Young Adult Dystopian Novel (The Flow Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 479 ratings

Broken. It’s been three months since Quin transferred to Patrol and discovered the terrifying truth about the community she lives in. Citizens of The Beck are disposable and those in charge are capable of terrible cruelty. Vowing to protect those around her, Quin has joined the Resistance. But she knows she is risking everything. Rebellion of any kind must be secretive and clever. Gathering enough people to fight seems like an impossible task. When those closest to her are directly threatened, Quin knows she has to act. But time is running out. Governance will stop at nothing to protect the world it has worked to build. In the end, Quin must decide how far she is prepared to go to rescue the ones she loves. Break is the second in the Flow series, which follows Quin as she struggles to carve out a future in the harsh regime she was born into.

Clare Littlemore is a young adult dystopian and sci-fi author who thrives on fictionally destroying the world with a cup of tea by her side. The tea will often be cold, because her characters have a way of grabbing hold of her and not letting go until the final page of their story is finished. They regularly have the same effect on her readers. Clare lives in the North West of England with her husband and two children.

The second installment in a dystopian series is usually make or break, so I eagerly awaited to read Break, hoping it would meet my high expectations. It sure did. Linking seamlessly to the first part of the story, the author adds flavor in the form of new characters and gives us a glimpse of what awaits Quin and the other insurgents beyond the Beck. Risks (and emotions) run high, the action is enough to make this a page-turner, and the end couldn't be more perfect. I can't wait for the third part.

4 stArs reflect my respect for the works of Veronica Roth and Octavia Butler, e.g. 3 StArs reflect my admiration for this author, the interesting world view she creates and occasional Complicated characters, all the while maintaining pg social commentary. Yes, I easily skimmed over 1/3 of it, being a much older ya, sigh, and finished books 1and 2 quickly. It was a Refreshing read and I happily purchased the set. I recommend this author and look forward to more worlds to come.

The characters and circumstances they found themselves in was amazing and very believable. I found myself crying and rooting for so many individuals as I became engrossed in the changing and ever growing relationships that developed with each new chapter. I can't wait'twait o continue reading what happens in the next book.

Overall, a good concept carried on from the previous book in the series. This book was slower paced with a lit more character rumination that seemed to revisit the same thoughts over and over. Would have like to see more revelation of the Dev.

A lot of times you start to read a series and the second book lets you down. NOT THIS series, I'm just as much into the second book as I was the first . Yet again twist and turns you don't see coming. I'm sorry if I'm not telling you about the Characters or the plot as I feel it always spoils it for the reader, it does for me. So trust me you will NOT be disappointed, make sure you read this book when you have time as you will NOT be able to put it down. Deserves more than 10 stars

I’m really enjoying this series. It is definitely worth a read. The characters and story are well written.

It’s a story in the future after an event. A community has survived by oppression and this story follows rebels.

You cannot read as a stand alone though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 2! Just as good as book 1
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 11, 2021
Sometimes you read the first book and are completely amazed and the second book is kinda meh. But this is just as good if not better than the first!
I was left on a cliff hanger and immediately bought the second book (thank goodness for Kindle) so I could keep going.
