Broken Play (Sugar Land Saints Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 852 ratings

We're friends, teammates—and we hook up. Often.

Shaw:
He's intense and the heat of his stare is hot enough to set fires.

The first time we got together, it was a spontaneous earth-shattering moment. I wanted more. So, of course I popped the question.

“Yours or mine for round two?” That’s where the trouble began. We agreed on an exclusive, no strings arrangement. When one of us is ready to walk away, we'll still be friends. Perfect, right?

He's not exactly a people person—understatement of the year—but I've seen the real him and he's so much more than the broody loner others see him as. But the brilliant plan backfired. I accidentally caught feelings.

Bishop:
He could be my game-changer but there's a problem.

He put a dent in my armor when he decided I needed a friend. Then he managed to crawl under my skin—and between my sheets.

He's the one person in the world I trust, and he's mine, for as long as this lasts. But I think I messed up and likely lost him for good. The role in my family's company I've been groomed for my entire life competes with my growing feelings for him. Turns out I can't have them both.

What a terrible time to realize he means more to me than just a friend and convenient hookup.

Being friends with benefits is the perfect arrangement until someone falls in love.

I had read and loved Risk, so when I saw Baylin Crow had a new book out, I decided to try it. What a great ride this book was! Super hot, great characters. I loved the contrast between Bishop’s closed off gruffness and Shaw’s open playfulness. I liked the balance of heat and emotion, and while they had issues to deal with, the drama wasn’t over the top. I haven’t read the first book, Quarterback Sneak, but I certainly will. And then read this one again. My only complaint is I wish the book was longer! Make sure you check out the bonus content at the end. More Bishop and Shaw! Also, love the cover. A perfect Bishop!

I did NOT receive an ARC. I chose to review this book!

I loved bishop and Shaw!! Bishop dubbed as the ‘dark knight’ because of his brooding and quiet nature and Shaw who was like the life of the party. After we got that bomb dropped in Torin and rushs book about the two of them k was counting down. And it didn’t disappoint. You could tell despite their casual very heated relationship there was more than just sex and friendship. I loved watching them admit to themselves finally after all the drama how they really felt. Bishops dad is horrible and wow he needs his due karma. And honestly I felt bad for mya at first until the next morning she pulled that stunt to be petty and hurt Shaw. It was unnecessary. Especially because bishop was not agreeing to the terms. So she is on my list with his dad lol. Loved the ending. They got their HEA. And how funny with nash calling them out and how they knew all along just like rush and Torin. Can’t wait for Nash’s book.

The series is getting better with each book. This book isn't very long but you do get to know the characters more than the first. There is a slight hint of angst, it doesn't really develop to much, but the potential is definitely there. I still plan on reading the next book and have high hopes for it. It's over 300 pages, if I'm not mistaken, so there should be a lot going on in it.
What to expect from this book
    Trope: m/m
Character development: pretty good. I liked both characters and I could definitely tell which pov I was reading.
Angst: low, but like I said before there was a hint so I think this author has it in them to give readers a more gut twisting story of they want. I personally love angst, but it's not for everyone and this author may never do it, but I think they probably could.
Heat factor: medium to high there are a few scenes that get pretty hot
Set up for future books: most definitely! I can't wait to read the next book as I'm hoping it has more of the things I see in this author that they haven't explored yet.
Again this book wasn't a waste of time and I'm glad I read it. It may not be everything I want but I'm not the one who wrote the story. It was a good book and I would recommend it if someone was looking for this type of read.

I really enjoyed reading about Shaw and Bishop. Fun and sexy couple. It was clear to see The underlying friendship and all that chemistry...those guys were so deep in love way before it was acknowledged. The drama that happens with Bishop's father was a bit far-stretched but underneath that was Bishop's grief and desire to connect to his mother. It was also the impetus that led to Bishop and Shaw recognizing what they meant to each other. I loved this and since this is a new author to me, I'm going back to read her earlier works....love her easy style.

Dual POV. Good amount of hot M/M sexy scenes. Little bit of humor but could have used more. No real angst or unimportant background. My only issue is that the bonus scene should have appeared at the beginning and the book needed an epilogue.

I've been curious of Shaw and Bishop since the first book and they didn't disappoint.
Neither one of them are out at school and Bishop isn't out at all, but their secret scorching friends with benefits relationship is taking them closer and closer to the feelings they deny they have.

I loved how Shaw is this extrovert who loves people and Bishop doesn't want to socialise at all. But Shaw is the one that slipped by his walls and he doesn't want to give that up.

A great mix of hot football players, some light spanking, two guys who feels more than they like to admit.
Shaw and Bishop are great together, I loved the hot scenes, hated Bishops dad and really wants to know what happened between Nash and Rendon.

This is a pretty fun read. My complaints are mostly just that I think the author could fill the book out a bit more. As in, I really think the 'bonus chapter' of the first time they hook up, which is at the end of the book, should be the first chapter and then maybe some sort of time lapse to present day. The benefit being that we could experience the evolution of the relationship. As it is, we come in when they've been friends with benefits for quite awhile, already pretty much in love minus the admissions, so I kept feeling like I was half way through their story. Flashbacks might have worked as well, just something to show the contrast between two friends hooking up, and two men being in love.
    Anyway, still fun

Shaw is the kid on the football team on a scholarship, from a poor but loving family. Bishop was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and has his future all planned out . . . or does he? When his Dad tries to run another power play, everything hangs in the balance. And there isn’t a sweeter scene in literature.

Crow creates robust characters. They have heart and soul, strengths and insecurities. In short, they draw you into their story and hold you there. This is an author you will curse in the morning for the number of times you’ll stay up late saying “Just one more chapter”. The problem is, you don’t want the book to end.

Looking forward to the third book in the Sugar Land Saints series after the immense readability of the first two.

I enjoyed Bishop and Shaw's story. It was an easy read with a sound plot about rich/ poor bias and been comfortable with your sexuality. It has football team back story, however it's not a sports obsessed read.

    I read via KU.
