Something Far Away and Happy Kindle Edition
Julia Evans has never had anything handed to her: She's worked hard to get where she is — just one high-profile interior design client away from landing her dream job of designing a brand new boutique hotel.
Remington Van der Meer is getting revenge: After a failed marriage, the only thing she has her sights set on right now is taking over her father's company, slowly but surely.
Ten years ago, feisty Julia and arrogant Remi were McManus College’s most unlikely couple — the two couldn’t have had less in common. Their passionate romance burned brightly for a season, but it was painfully over just as quickly and abruptly as it began — neither one understanding exactly why.
Now, a 100-year storm, a meddling assistant, and a lucky blue velvet blazer join forces to throw Julia and Remi back in each other’s lives for a second chance. But soon they find that there are certain perks to being stuck together, even with a deep loathing of one another…
This friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers (whew, that's a mouthful) second chance romance is a little angsty, a lot funny, and completely swoon-worthy.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed the characters of Julia, an interior designer who was unknowingly thrown together with her ex, ten years later, at Remi's, an airline executive, mansion in the woods. These two were a couple in college, but despicable actions from people close to them, tore them apart. When they each discover the other was not to blame for the breakup, old feelings begin to surface.
I did like the reference to Tonya Harding/ Nancy Kerrigan, but I don't think young people will get it. I think Julia's mishaps and Remy coming to the rescue helped repair their relationship, but I waited for a little more depth to their characters.
The negative characters were really heinous, but the rest of the supporting cast added some fun and laughs, especially Flossie. She is just a gem of a character!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a brilliant second chance love story. Julia and Remington meet in college. They are deeply in love, about to finish college and Remington convinces Julia to start the next step in their journey together. Spring break brings the collapse of their relationship and Julia never knows what happens it is just over. This deep lose changes the direction of boths their lives and closes off their hearts. Ten years later it looks like fate brings them back together. The story of why unfolds and hope of healing begins. There are such great plot twists and characters that help tell this second chance story. Bryce takes you on a mountain top experience in beautiful Colorado. You feel like you are their sharing each moment at the truth unfold. The love Jules and Remi feel is palpable and so real. We meet Flossie a neighbor and fall in love with Stormy whose name depicts the journey our two woman take. Bryce Oakley has again brought a cast of characters full of love, intrigue and a villain or two. I simple could not put the book down. I loved it. It is a fantastic read I enjoyed so much.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a great book. Well written and exciting with a share of heartbreak. I loved the coupling of Remington and Julia. The instant connection from their first dalliance was so so cute. To believe in someone from the onset, is so refreshing. Once again a rich girls parents get involved in a relationship they do not want for their own personal reasons and two very happy loving people are affected by their devious attitude for the rest of their lives. I loved how the the supporting cast added to the further dimension of the story. This is just typical writing by Bryce Oakley.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI thoroughly enjoyed The Adventurers and looked forward to Something Far Away and Happy. Oakley's The Adventurers was the first book I felt excited to read after starting it in quite some time. You know when you catch yourself excited about reading, seeing what happens next. Bryce Oakley reels you in with her characters, how relatable they are and I loved the witty playful banter. Loved how Jude (Julia) was very comfortable in her skin and with the person she is. The angst were divine, the shock and twists to the story delicious. The chemistry electric! My second Bryce Oakley read was just as enjoyable and impressive as the first.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe main story is good. I like the secondary characters, but there's a lot and they aren't all that developed sometimes. They drop a few plot bombs, which is okay... Interesting plot bombs, but they kind of just show up and bomb the story as it goes. If the main couple weren't enjoyable, it would be difficult to accept the things that just drop on top of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI cannot describe how much I love Bryce Oakley. Every book she’s written has impressed me, even if the synopsis didn’t draw me in as well as it typically would. Any book that she writes, I’ll enthusiastically read. This book was no different. It was well paced and unpredictable at the best times in the best way. I didn’t feel like I could guess the outcome nor did I feel like the twists were unrealistic. The book was an appropriate length and the “steamy” scenes were hot but not necessarily erotic. Basically, it was a well written well balanced book and I HIGHLY recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed Bryce Oakley’s other books, but this one just wasn’t for me. The cover makes it look like two best friends lounging, having a good time. But the main character would NEVER have done that. Then they fall in love very quick (even by lesbian standards). It wasn’t very believable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Erm....where to start.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI liked this book to a point and I'm a fan of Bryce's other books and her writing. But the premise was a little hard to accept at times. Especially when they are supposed to be in love and relatively independent adults at college. Who wouldn't confront their partner about anything if they mean that much to them? There was also no resolution of why the parents did what they did and it was so monumentous that not having any sort of explaination as to why left you a bit high and dry. The characters were great and the interaction between Remi and Jude was intense and affecting but it felt a little out there too at times. 30 year olds that still emotionally acted like kids. I know it's fiction. But still. Seemed rushed and could have been longer to pace the reveal and then some resolutions.
Flossie was awesome. Stormy was the best bit of the book and held much more sense than some of the human Interactions. I explained the premise to my wife and she said I'm not reading that it sounds stressful. She wasn't wrong. I felt like I was holding my breath the whole time. If that's your literary pleasure then read this 😁 it obviously affected me but I'm still not sure if it was positively or not? I liked Remi's gender and sexual expression because I find butch women very attractive and am always happy when there is representation I can enjoy 😉 so that was a plus.
