- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2015Back to the Philippines tells the tale of a sailor from the U.S.S. Enterprise while he's on a two day leave. The author takes us through twists and turns as the sailor meets up with his girlfriend and she takes him to a rebel encampment were he buys contraband but they look at him and wonder how he's going to get it back aboard the ship, he doesn't tell them but he has a way. He says good by to his girlfriend and reports for duty but as the story comes to a close he finds himself in hot water that he won't be able to swim out of. This is a great book with lots of twists, and it's a highly recommend to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2015I loved the main character Florita because she is an exotic beauty who lives her life by her own rules. Even though she was a bad girl, stepping out and breaking the law, I liked her anyway. Her life had really put her down in the worst way but she takes control and runs her own game. She takes huge risks and the payoffs are worth it to her. Personally, I am too scared to do what she did, but reading this story was fun because I felt like a gangster girl while reading it. This story seems true. I don't think anyone could make this up. The ending really took me by surprise.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2016Imagine going on shore leave with a young sailor who is . . . say, not exactly the most honest person. And imagine going on shore leave with him in town that can best be characterized as a waterfront dive. He has a sexy girlfriend and they hatch a plan to make a large sum of money, but they have to commit an outrageous crime. Don't worry . . . no spoilers here. Read it, relish it, then read it again because you won't believe that the author pulls it off in such a short piece.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2015Crimes happened everywhere. This short story is so mesmerizing. I like the way it is written with some very exciting twists. The characters are well developed and they really portrayed their roles so right. The author has a very extraordinary skill in producing such very unique story. The originality is there. I was very attentive while reading it because it goes like real. I like it. I will read it again and again.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2015This is a short read but has a great story, this is the first book I have read by Malcolm Torres and has done good at keeping the suspense going throughout the book. I like how the story is set in the Philippines and the characters are all unique in their own way. If you live crime story books then you will enjoy this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2015This is a beautifully written story that circles around the life of a sailor. The moment Pat's ship landed on on the seaport of the Philippine he immediately got into business with his long time friend Florita, smuggling weed, a rather risky yet a lucrative kind of business.
This is a very well written story that vividly describes the Philippines in the early 70's where Filipinos including children were then very fond of sailors, it vividly describes the under developed streets, ports and the like. Great book!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2021Brought back some good memories while I was visiting the Philippines. Looking forward to reading his other books. The good old days.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2017An interesting short story if a bit predictable, but contains great accurate descriptions of the city of Olongapo in the Philippines and the culture there..

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and fun read!
This short book of adventure shows you what a beautiful country Philippines is. Malcolm knows how to make a flying adventure story fun to read. I am not sure if it’s a true story because the nature of crime committed by the US navy guy in this story is outrageous. If it is true, I am not sure how he got away with it. Nevertheless, the author makes the story fun to read and let you enjoy the read along. It is short and fun to read.
