In Pursuit of a Manuscript (A Buccaneer's Due Book #2): LitRPG Series Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

The next book of the series! Henry Morgan's Fort (A Buccaneer's Due Book #3) LitRPG Series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NWB13Z4

When Rudra first started playing the Caribbean, it wasn’t out of some dream to accomplish great things — he was simply hired to work for a pirate clan. But now, he has a ship of his own, and he’s made friends, allies, and enemies along the way. Unfortunately, everything he’s done has led his clan to treat him with suspicion, while the crew of his brig, the Rapier, whispers about mutiny…

Rudra isn’t too worried about all that though. He's much more interested in a mysterious manuscript containing designs for the most powerful cannon the Caribbean has ever seen, which he set out to find with the brash pirate Anneli. Rudra’s quest takes him and his crew to the shores of South America, sunny Havana, and the lawless Nassau. He meets runaway slaves, falls into the clutches of Spanish inquisitors, storms a fort, and even comes to blows with the mighty Spanish Armada — and all that is but a small fraction of the adventures fate has in store for our young buccaneer.

Igor Knox is a successful author working in the genres of LitRPG and fantasy.

He found his first inspiration in sea adventure classics by Robert Louis Stevenson, Rafael Sabatini and C. S. Forester among many others. At the same time, he was a passionate gamer and fantasy fan which prompted him to try his hand at the genre of LitRPG, giving it a sea adventure slant with pirates and naval entourage.

His debut novel Isle of Destiny (A Buccaneer's Due Book 1) became the first LitRPG novel set in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of piracy. He likes to root his stories in historical settings and events with plenty of allusions to classic sea adventures, computer games and other LitRPG books.

The hook set in the first book isn't strong enough for too prolonged of a series. While this tale keeps the characters alive to the reader, the story arch falters. Poor editing is a silly thing to get in the way of a good tale, but having an "idea(l) place for an ambush." and too numerous omitted small words, does get in the way of enjoyment.

This genre is rife with worse examples, so I am grading on a curve. It would get much worse treatment if the same issues were in Fantasy, Drama, Mystery, etc.
