"A collection of stories that not only seeks to turn you on, but alsostrives to make you think: about gender, about power, about age andsexuality, and about all the different ways that a diverse collection of women can and do get their sexy on. A definite bedside keeper!" -Romance Novels for Feminists
"This anthology of 22 short, sexy stories is the perfect starter packfor erotica newbies and seasoned readers alike. There are pairings ofall sorts between these pages. Among my favorites: Flying Solo by Rachel Kramer Bussel, who writes about a particularly hot open marriage, andThe Altar of Lamented Toys, a poignant and bittersweet dystopian tale by Jessica Taylor. A bonus: because these stories are so short, they areperfect for reading aloud to your partner in bed." -- Popsugar
From the Inside Flap
As an editor, I faced the mighty task of whittling down the over two hundred submissions I received to the twenty-found found between these covers. The resulting collection is one that features the kind of women I consider my readers to be: smart, daring, fierce, loving, kinky, curious, powerful, feisty. While no single book can represent every kind of woman, you'll find women from a range of races, sexual orientations, and backgrounds, partnered and solo. You'll find women going on sexual journeys from the past, present and future.
Whether they're enjoying a threesome, acting out their passion on stage, getting a tattoo, seducing their boss, having their naked body painted, dressing up as a domme or exulting in their most submissive moment, the characters you'll read about here, and their authors, are passionate, funny and they were a delight to visit with.
You will notice that there are more than a few women here "of a certain age," as the saying goes, which is fitting as I turned forty just before this book goes to press--close enough to look back on my younger days, as Aya does in "Revisiting Youth" by J. Crichton and H. Keyes, and hoping to keep the erotic spark alive well into the future, as characters like D in Dorothy Freed's "Two Doms for Dinner" do.
My goal with this book was twofold: to present sexual fantasies in a way that sparks your imagination and also respects your mind, and to reflect a glimmer of real life back from the deepest reaches of these authors' minds. Though some of the scenarios you're about to read would be impossible to live out, and some might be unlikely, all of them offer women whoa re willing to go toward what might seem scary or new or uncertain, whether that means an old flame, a sexy stranger or a childhood crush.
I also wanted to present some of my favorite erotic authors, such as S.E.C.R.E.T. trilogy author L. Marie Adeline and The Original Sinners series author Tiffany Reisz, alongside writers whose work you may be reading for the first time. I've long said that erotica is an incredibly democratic and welcoming genre, and I'm proud to have so many new authors, whose names you'll likely want to watch as they set forth in their erotica writing careers.
Whether outdoors,in a love hotel, or even a porta-potty (yes, you read that right, and Amy Butcher's "Waiting to Pee" is one of the most provocative stories I've ever published, one I plan to reread often), they are willing to go forth into the unknown because the payoff promises to rock their worlds. I hope the same can be said for your reading experience. Welcome to Best Women's Erotica. Whenever and wherever you're reading this, I hope it both arouses and surprises you.

A few fun facts and good stuff... When I am not writing, I sing in the shower- terribly, inadvertently kill all the flowers I plant and shop for high end shoes at bargain prices on the internet. I love dogs although both of mine have long since gone to doggy heaven. I read lots of books in a variety of genres. I make fun of the news and reality TV. I think chocolate should be on the food pyramid as its own category. Dirty martinis are my preferred drink. I think good friends and good conversation over a good meal is the ideal way to spend any free time. I'm not human until and unless I have had my first cup of coffee. And last but not least, I always try to buy flowers for my hotel rooms because it just makes it feel more like home.
Oh, and I like to write. And read.

I am, as of this writing, seventy-two-years-old and still passionately interested in all things erotic: art, literature, films, and fantasies—not to mention hot, personal interactions when opportunities arise. Although I was led to believe that in my post-menopausal, estrogen deprived life, I would come to prefer travel, cooking, hiking, or gardening, to the allure of intimate encounters—this has fortunately proven to be untrue. My sexual life now spans a half century, and against all odds and aside from age related restrictions imposed by my body, it continues to unfold.
Lazuli Jones is an LGBTQIA+ romance and women's erotica author as well as a massive geek. They enjoy bad puns, 80's pop culture references, and science-fiction. Their latest novel, BETTER LATE, is now available from Clarian Press.
Their first novel, ABYSSAL ZONE (eXtasy Books) is all about the exploration of human/alien sexuality, with some spaceships and lasers to serve as a backdrop.
Their short stories have appeared in numerous collections including TOY BOX, THEY DO, MYTHOLOGICALLY TORQUED, BEST WOMEN'S EROTICA OF THE YEAR, VOLUME I, NASTY: FETISH FIGHTS BACK, and THE BIG BOOK OF SUBMISSION, VOLUME II.
No stranger to the stage, Lazuli is also a locally-produced playwright, blending the glitter of live theatre with erotica. They once wrote a play parodying classic Harlequin romance novels, which was really just an excuse to say the words "milky bosoms" and "turgid rubies" over and over.
They live with their partner in Ontario, Canada.
Ria Restrepo may appear to be a mild-mannered bookworm who drinks too much coffee and spends most days tapping away on her computer. But beneath the quiet exterior lurks a filthy-minded sex kitten with a lurid and lascivious imagination. Writing erotica, romance, and all the shades in between, she truly enjoys entertaining readers with stories about strong women exploring and celebrating their desires—especially when they involve dominant men with a sensitive side.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2016A thrilling and fun collection, this book includes terrific stories that present readers with a variety of perspectives, settings, preferences, attitudes & turn ons, and I wholeheartedly believe it deserves the title "Best" Women's Erotica of the Year.
Though it might seem ridiculously academic to comment on the quality of the writing itself in a book of erotica, the quality of writing itself was a turn on! Personally I often feel erotica can be cringe-worthy--unbelievable scenarios, silly people and unlikely reactions. But the characters in these stories were strong (not in a cheesy "you go girl!" type way, but true their goals and desires), the storylines were genuinely interesting, and the sex--yes, the hot and steamy sex--was great. It felt like a revelation!
Editor Rachel Kramer Bussel deserves great praise for putting together such a joyous and heart-thumping anthology, including a wide swath of writers who are only similar in their celebration of the female libido!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2016I am a long-time reader of the Best Women's Erotica Series, and have all the books since 2009. I was nervous how the collection would look under a new editor, and unfortunately, some of my fears were confirmed. This collection does have some great things going for it: lots of queer representation, authors and characters of color, and some interesting kinks. However, as a whole, I found the stories to be not as well written or as well-paced as I've come to expect from this series. There were no stand-out stories, and less of the literary or fantastical elements that have showed up in past collections. Many of the stories felt as though they hadn't been edited thoroughly, and some of them were more of what I would expect from a garden-variety erotic story from a newsgroup or webpage. I enjoyed it enough to read the entire book, but it's probably not a re-read for me. Not sure I'll keep buying the collections under the new editorship.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2016There is so much utter garbage out there, erotic "books" that are nothing more than amateurs writing out their fantasies in 4 or 5 chapters, then writing a "sequel" with 4 more chapters, then eventually selling a "whole series" using that same formula. The characters are predictable and boring and the plots don't really tell much of a story. They end up being poorly written porn, and frankly, you almost wish they wouldn't bother with the prose, just get on with the action.
Ms. Bussel has done a fairly good job finding the better material in this collection. They are still just short stories, but there's some genuine creative writing here. The prose is done well, and even the descriptions of sex are above par. Personally, I prefer a little more detail, we're in the age where we don't need to be shy about descriptions, and I don't mind a slight bit more vulgarity, but the authors seem to find a reasonable balance that keeps it from getting pulp.
There are multiple genres, from classic romance to futuristic post-apocalyptic (clever story), and even outright fantasy, that you're sure to find something you like. But that's also the downside, it's all short stories, so you'll also find a lot you're not really into. I guess it's like any other buffet. The dishes you like are done well, and hopefully that's enough to satisfy you considering there were lots of other dishes you passed on.
That said, I've yet to find the truly AMAZING erotica story that captures my attention throughout, without sounding like it was written by a repressed housewife or horny 24-year-old boy.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2017Rachel's anthologies are always a fun place spend your imagination! I always give away books after reading, the last person I gave this collection of stories to said after reading the first story "it made my pussy clench & throb"...
*Rachel's contribution of FLYING SOLO: is the best of her work I've read yet. The amazing way she changes the narrative vocabulary from 1st to 2nd to 3rd person is intriguing.
*MATILDA'S Secret is a great tale full of twisting surprises all of unexpected fun
*SCENTS & SEXUALITY is lots of enjoyment true to it's title
*ALVIN'S NIGHT: Ms. Coldwell is rapidly becoming a favorite author of mine
*THE ALTAR OF LAMENTED TOYS: perhaps this is the only one I just didn't get?
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2016Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseJust wasn't my favorite. It's a lot of short stories thru various periods of time about the sexual exploits. I just didn't care for all the different stories and seemed a little like short stories in porn magazines. I'm sure to some it would be fine but just not my particular preference.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2016For some reason this came up as a Lesbian Fiction book. I flipped through it to realize that was not the case and immediately contacted amazon for a refund.
If you aren't looking for a lesbian specific book and like historical fictions this was is decently written.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2016Format: Audible AudiobookVerified PurchaseAll right, I'll admit it, I'm a Rose Caraway fan.
In my opinion, no one does the narration of an erotic story better than Rose. I've been listening to her for years now, first on the Kiss Me Quick's and Sexy Librarian podcasts, then on her ever expanding catalog of audio books. Each one has been better than the last.
Rachel Kramer Bussel has edited many fine anthologies, and this is one of the finest I've ever read. The combination of these stories and Rose's voice makes for an unbeatable combination. I'm a guy, but I felt sucked right into these stories. They made my morning and evening commutes wonderful experiences.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2016This was not as good of a book as I thought it would be, Some stories are really strange that I just skipped thru them. It took a long time for me to finish this book and most hot.sensual stories I can go thru in a day or 2. Was a bit disappointed.

Very good book. Some beautifully written stories. Genuinely erotic and genuinely good reading, which is not always the case with erotica. I will be reading more of this author's books

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!
ike Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, when you open up this compilation you don't know what you are gonna get...but trust me, it will be delicious. Rachel Kramer Bussel has carefully assembled a collection that offers variety of voices, settings, and premises, while ensuring a consistency of quality writing from both well-known and new writers.
"The Altar of Lamented Toys", set in a dystopian future, is the salted caramel to be enjoyed as it slowly melts in your mouth, one layer of flavour at a time. The authors (yes, two of them) skilfully weave in worldbuilding details, and add a sprinkle of sea salt (the face slapping) that makes the sweetness of the relationship more moving.
"The Carnaliarium" is the premium cream wrapped in foil. No breakup has been more beautiful than this one, set up in the unlikely stage of a dungeon.
"Waiting to Pee" is a white chocolate/coconut melt: not everybody's favourite, but readers willing to go beyond their comfort zone will be rewarded with a carefully crafted set up, and a likeable protagonist.
Kramer Bussel's story, "Flying Solo", about a couple seducing strangers, is another quality offering...a dark chocolate and nut cluster of quality ingredients, with descriptions rich in feelings, and a joi de vivre that jumps off the page.
Sit down, open the box...and enjoy.
