About the author

SEUMAS GALLACHER escaped from the world of finance twelve years ago, after a career spanning three continents and five decades.
As the self-professed 'oldest computer Jurassic on the planet' his headlong immersion into the dizzy world of eBook publishing opened his eyes, mind, and pleasure to the joys of self-publishing. As a former businessman, he rapidly understood the concept of a writer's need to 'build the platform', and from a standing start began to develop a social networking outreach, which now tops 60,000 direct contacts.
His first five crime-thrillers, in what has become the 'Jack Calder' series, THE VIOLIN MAN'S LEGACY; VENGEANCE WEARS BLACK; SAVAGE PAYBACK; KILLER CITY; and DEADLY IMPASSE have blown his mind with more than 100,000 e-link downloads to date. He celebrated that landmark with a Fried Mars Bar and a glass of Irn Bru.
As a professional ghostwriter for other people's autobiographies, he decided to write his own life story, 'STRANGELY, I'M STILL HERE', which has garnered much praise from his loyal readership, and he is immensely grateful for their support.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2015A gaffer and his mate find a grim discovery in a resident’s wheelie bin and the case makes headline news. Is it a coincidence where the body was found and how much trouble is Alex really in? His father thinks ‘the lad’s a walking saint,’ so it’s hard to believe Alex would have done anything remotely close to murder. If the case does indeed involve a nest of snakes, the ones Jack Calder’s smelling are getting stinkier by the minute.
A mixture of Scots, Irish and English makes this a veritable cocktail of a case where a former SAS officer and his colleagues attempt to clean up the drug trade mob. As Detective Shirley Rice goes missing and heavies try to attack Bob Granger the tension rises a few more notches. Calder must go undercover under an assumed name to assess if any ‘special’ shipments are on the rise and not only that, there seems to be a flourishing trade in the local club where Detective Rice was last seen.
Gallacher has an almost journalistic writing style which is hard to put down. So I settled in for the evening to read this book unaware that the tight plot and more-than-generous tension would keep me occupied until the early hours. The scandals and mysteries Calder is involved in make you feel like you’re part of the plot and the way Gallacher uses his knowledge and background to create the characters is spot on. There is certainly no honor among thieves and top brass is very quickly beginning to look like top farce.
What I liked about the story was the way each chapter sent me on a rampage to ensure my back door was locked and windows shuttered before I could read any more. It was like expecting a hurricane, only worse. Although I’m new to Gallacher’s books, I’ve added Killer City to my library of suspense novels because the interweaving plots are skillfully crafted and provide good depth to the mystery. What appears to start out as a fairly straightforward story very quickly becomes a ton of twists I wasn’t expecting.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2017Of the perhaps 2 dozen "free" Amazon books I've read during the past year or two, this is THE most satisfying. First off (no small thing these days of rampant, e-book self-publishing), the formatting seemed proper-and-consistent, and the editing and proofing seemed very good, too. That can only enhance the pleasure of reading any book.
More important, though, it's a well-plotted story with engaging characters. When I got to the end, I felt fully satisfied about the time I'd committed to reading it.
Of course, the point of offering a "free" book these days is to enhance sales. More often than not, however, I'm NOT interested in reading any other books that the "freebie" author may have written. But this is one time when I look forward to actually paying to read other novels by this author. (I just hope this "freebie" wasn't his ONLY "good one" . . smile) By the way, as I was reading this, I was thinking how much more satisfying the story was than the past couple of Jack Reacher novels I've. Then again, how difficult it must be to keep churning out books about the same character, making each one suspenseful, appealing and satisfying. I'm looking forward to seeing if Lewis is able to do so with this "Jack Calder" crime series . .. AND if the Reacher novels can once again come alive?!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2015Seumas Gallacher’s Killer City, the fourth novel in a gripping series is, like its predecessors, a fast paced and exciting read. As an action thriller, the novel delivers on all fronts: mystery, suspense, a clever, well crafted plot and non-stop action. Set largely in Manchester, my home town, it well displays that tough town’s underbelly.
A foul smell from a garbage bin reveals a decaying woman’s body, and the ball begins to roll. This simple act of murder is more than just another violent death in a violent city, but the key that opens the door on a world of corrupt police who turn a blind eye for pay, and the and dirty business of international crime. It trips a switch that brings in Jack Calder and his ISP boys. And in their investigation, we are taken to London, Spain and on to Lithuania and the wilds of Tajikistan in pursuit of villains who deal in synthetic drugs, traffic women for prostitution; and ruthlessly murder those who get in the way.
Seumas Gallacher has always produced worthy villains and he does so here; a more unpleasant bunch you wouldn’t wish to meet. And as fans of this series have come to expect, justice – real justice - is served to them by the boys from ISP and in the most satisfying manner. Killer City is well written in a tight controlled narrative that fits the genre and so earns my highest praise; I’ll read it again. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for lovers of compelling crime thrillers.
‘Killer City’, the fourth book in writer Seumas Gallacher’s Jack Calder series, scores a bullseye in the crime thriller genre. In it he pits the might of International Security Partners against corrupt cops and deadly crime lords in the North of England and Tajikistan. The tale is a solid page-turner, with plenty of intrigue, betrayals and bodies to satisfy the most exigent of his fans.
As usual, the pace in Gallacher’s tale is superb as it moves us from Manchester to London then to Spain and Eastern Europe. The writing is taut and straight to the point, reminding me of the earlier Lee Child novels, wasting no time plunging the reader into the plot. The characters, for the most part, will be familiar to followers of this series, and there are several convincingly-crafted villains to make the storyline more interesting.
In my opinion, Gallacher’s Jack Calder novels have come of age with this one; it’s easily the best of the four books published so far. Looking forward to reading the next. Highly recommended for lovers of compelling crime thrillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Manchester will never be the same!
When I want a relaxing read I go for either an easy to read romance, or for a fast paced mystery/thriller such as this. I truly enjoy these books. The main characters are extraordinary, believable, likeable, yet people with flaws and faults like the rest of us.
This story had plenty of drama and tension, mixed with power plays from all sides. You know the bad guys are going to get it in the end, but it's still a fun ride going along to see it happen.
I enjoyed this one so much I moved directly on to the next one - Deadly Impasse.

5.0 out of 5 stars After two chapters, I headed for a glass of wine and a handful of peanuts, anticipating a good few hours happy reading.
I am not a generous reviewer because I find much of the current literary offerings amateurish, but not Killer City. Professional down to his very fingertips, Seumas Gallacher writes in the American style of short chapters which introduce new characters and angles. Beginning with the body of a naked woman stuffed into a wheelie bin, we move rapidly and efficiently on to corruption in the Manchester Police Force where officers are turning a blind eye to drugs, prostitution, offering a pat on the wrist to any villains arrested. Add a woman gang boss who is Lithuanian, a bent ex-chief of police, two SAS guys, Jack Calder and Malky McGuire, who now run a specialist security agency, and you are in for a rip-roaring ride. And it all kicks-off when Jack Barnett, whos son, Alex, is accused of the wheelie-bin murder asks his pals to look into the case … because something stinks.
There is a lot of killing, and some graphic violence involving the Cosmic Dentist. Now I don’t particularly like violence but it works. My only gripe is that from chapter 26 when Carr Pharmaceutical is blown up, a number of scenes could well be expanded. For me they were unnecessarily truncated reminding me of the typed intros to a change of scene that you get in ‘Law and Order’

4.0 out of 5 stars Gritty Story and Compelling Characters
With a name like 'Killer City' you would expect action and this story certainly delivers with the grim discovery of a body stuffed into a wheelie bin to kick off events. A man is arrested; his father protests his innocence and when no one else will listen he turns to his old friend, Jack Calder, to help his son.
But, whether the young man is innocent or not, it becomes evident that this is no straightforward murder case. Jack and his colleagues at International Security Partners soon find that all their skills are required as drug trafficking on a huge scale becomes part of their investigation.
Killer City is a quick read and a definite page turner. There is plenty of action without it totally dominating the story so that the more human side of the ISP crew is also revealed, though they can be as ruthless as the criminals and murderers they pursue, when necessary.
This is the second book in the 'Jack Calder' series I have read and not in the order they were written! There is a back story to the ISP security company and its members but Killer City also does very well as a stand -alone read.

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth the wait!
I read an advance copy in return for an honest review. All the Jack Calder novels can be read as stand alone novels however, I have read them in sequence and would suggest very strongly this is the way to go
A long awaited sequel and well worth the wait! The book started of in a dramatic style and quite frankly got better and better. It was a book I could hardly put down, not even for the Ashes test match!! It starts with ISP helping an old SAS mate having problems with his son. The story develops into prostitution, money laundering and drug trafficking. As with all the Jack Calder novels there is a lot of violence and it will not be everyone's cup of tea. However, I did think it was toned down a bit until..............no I am not going to spoil the story!!
Suffice to say , as far as I am concerned an excellent read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am now waiting for the next one!
