Catch Me (Kitchen Gods Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 397 ratings

Chef Wyatt Blake has never been readier to move on from his thankless job on the Terroir kitchen line, so when a good friend hooks him up with an opportunity as a private chef, he jumps at the chance.

He's shocked to discover his new client is the first "out" player in professional baseball: Ryan Flores.

Ryan's also at a career crossroads. His team wants to see his more responsible side, which means no more late night hookups. When his agent suggests he find a fake boyfriend to give him an air of domesticity, he’s not interested.

Until Ryan meets his new, very cute, very unavailable private chef, and changes his mind. Maybe faking it wouldn't be so bad with Wyatt.

Wyatt wants Ryan to be more than just his boss, but he's not sure about leaving the kitchen to be a professional boyfriend. Especially when he discovers the reality so much better than the fantasy.

Catch Me is a 85,000 contemporary m/m romance, and while second in the Kitchen Gods series, can be read as a standalone.

What a fantastic, surprising, compelling cast of characters. Who knew that chefs and cooking, could be sooo sexy. Wyatt is an amazing chef, gorgeous, laid back personality and very under paid. When an opportunity becomes available to make more money, which is desperately needed to care for his Nana, he takes the job. Ryan is the first out and proud, major league baseball player. He needs to present himself as settling down into a committed relationship. His manager concocted a scheme of a fake boyfriend, until his new contract is signed. Wyatt and Ryan are a fantastic contradiction, in personality, temperament and goals. But what they do have in common are difficult pasts, love of family, sense of humor, willingness to try new things. This relationship was intense, passionate, full of longing and misunderstanding. This is a magnificent story that you can't put down. This is book #2 but can easily be read as a standalone. I also loved book #1 BITE ME. I am now hungrily waiting for book #3. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS MAGNIFICENT NEW SERIES!!!!!

For books about cooks, this series is mighty thirsty. An example:

"Except there was a reason they’d stayed mostly fully clothed around each other. They were dry matches desperate to burn, and all they craved was a single flame to set them alight.

But he couldn’t set them on fire, because it might burn too hot, and then they’d both be caught in the backdraft."

So much sex, and sexual tension, and lust. Also, a wee bit of cooking, and pretty much no baseball, but contracts and faux dating. Angst - did I mention angst? - fierce friends, family, and miscommunication round out the recipe for this one.

I'm enjoying the series, and looking forward to Kian's story, but don't want to skip book three to rush my way there.

In this book you all are going to spend time with yatt, the sweetheart in the fourclover Miles, Wyatt, xander and Kian.
Wyatt is the one peacemaker guy, and if you have fallen for him now, well you will definitely fall even more during the book. He struggles at work, and he struggles with Nana who is in an eldery home. He is miserable because of this. how things will go for wyatt when he meets ryan well go hit the one click button and get this ook and read it.
I love how the author has buildt up a good world here, and how she portrays the characters too. How she impliments themes as well. This will be reread for sure.

I enjoyed this book very much; it was my first introduction to Beth Bolden, and it definitely made me go seek out her other books. This book starts with a hook-up, but these two were made for each other, and it shows as they get to know one another. There is some of the "fake boyfriend" trope, but not in a paint-by-numbers way. If you've never read this author, this is a good place to start even if it is the second book in the Kitchen Gods series.

I’ve been in love with Wyatt and Ryan for awhile now. Somehow I started reading Beth’s book a in a very scrambled order that began with the Piranhas. They’ve made appearances in several other books and I love the way she ties her characters together. This book was everything I hoped for and more as I FINALLY read their story.

Beth Bolden is once again batting a thousand. The first book in the Kitchen Gods series, Bite Me, made for an outstanding read. The second book in this series, Catch Me, is exceptional. I loved this book! The author's main characters, Wyatt and Ryan, travel the length and breadth of a sometimes turbulent, but also very tender and loving , M/M romance story. Their journey together makes for a most satisfying read. Ms. Bolden has joined that special association of M/M romance authors who always write those books that are must reads. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming third Kitchen Gods book, Savor Me! Another good show, indeed.

Wyatt is looking for a better job, especially more pay to help his nana. Ryan needs a fake boyfriend, but he does everything wrong with Wyatt. A fun read.

The Kitchen Gods series is great. Nothing is straight forward when life has provided examples of how trust does not come easy. This is true for chef Wyatt and baseball player Ryan. They have both been in love, at least they thought they may have been so when they meet they are carrying baggage they will need to lose if they can make a fresh start.

They are great characters with expectations and desires. They need to build trust if they are going have a happy ever after. And just maybe listen more carefully to what they are saying to each other and less what they think the other person is saying. I'm talking to you,Ryan.

    Read it and smile, eventually.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not convinced these MCs will be happy together based on what we actually see in the novel

Fake dating is one of my favourite tropes, but this one didn't quite work for me, and I think it largely comes down to Ryan and how I want to like him but from the evidence in the book have a hard time thinking he'd be a good person for Wyatt to be in a relationship with. (I am also risk averse, so it's probably partly a case of just not clicking with the type of person he is.)

From beginning to end, Ryan makes a series of decisions and acts in certain ways that make it hard for me to like him--starting with sleeping with someone he recognises is about to become an employee without telling them and then hiring them under false pretenses. It just keeps going, including several very questionable actions at 80-90% of the book which make it hard for me to feel like we've made real progress.

Ryan comes across to me as a thrill-chasing adrenaline junkie who is happy to manipulate to get what he wants, rarely explains himself, and doesn't listen to his partner. I believe that Wyatt is all in and loves Ryan. (Though it is difficult to see why, really, as a reader in Wyatt's POV, I believe it nevertheless.) It's a lot harder for me to get on board with Ryan's supposed feelings versus his actions. All of these dark spots through so much of the book mostly drowned out the parts that I enjoyed--and I genuinely enjoyed Ryan supporting Wyatt through the first bad instance of his Nan's memory loss, the cooking lesson with Flor, meeting Tony, the apology food truck. (Really, that last one is pretty inspired, thinking of a way that Wyatt can achieve his goals and connect with his family.) I'm left hoping that the near death experience is finally enough to alter some of Ryan's behaviour (which seems to be the case given the epilogue) but I wish that I'd seen more instances of positive behaviour in the book itself.

This was a good read. Sweet at times, and also showed how Ryan was having a hard time moving forward into a proper relationship and trusting Wyatt, even when he realised how he felt. He was reckless and downright hurtful with his actions and words at times. Wyatt was a good counter to Ryan's behaviour, and I did like the cooking snippets that we got (even though there was limited actual kitchen time). I did feel the story wasn't complete and missing much needed depth and stability given we missed seeing Ryan and Wyatt actually figuring things out and finding their balance - all of those details were skipped between the final chapter and epilogue and I would have preferred to have something that showed them learning to trust and live with each other. Otherwise, a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not my favorite in the series

I had a hard time getting into this one. I love this author and I did love this book, but something about the way they behaved was frustrating in the beginning. I didn't feel that same connection as with other characters by the author, or in this series. Still, it was well-written, all the same fun and easy dialogue as usual, an interesting cast of characters and some sweet moments.

    SPOILER
The accident at the end seemed a bit much, really. They could have figured things out without that extreme an action but I suppose it did fit with the character. Still, was very unexpected for this book, IMO. Doesn't detract overall, still loved it, and would always recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fake boyfriend isn’t as fake as the contract stipulates.

Ryan is a serial one night stand, stay away from relationships type. He needs to appear less flighty or his career could be at stake. Wyatt is only in it for the money, for a very good cause, and his only real relationship crashed and burned so badly it still hurts. The problem, or not really a problem, is they both really like each other. Many angsty moments and terrible miscommunication later, leads to a perfect HEA. Definitely read the Food Truck Warriors series, (1-7) which is the follow up from this, they all link, really funny, hot and steamy.
