“I can’t be the one to rescue you. You have to save yourself” OMG you guys I can’t deal. The rollercoaster of emotions that this story had me on was so intense I need a break before moving on to book 2. The story follow Chase and Alicia who share an interesting backstory. Chase and Alicia shared a moment that caused pain to those she loved. Chase isn’t one to make smart decision, the last one he made almost cost a life to be taken. The story touches on alcohol addiction and the struggles to keep clean. The triggers that are cause by the people in your life who don’t help your recovery. The choices we make and how they have both positive and negative consequences on us. The story has so many great side stories within it. Between the two main characters they have enough guilt and shame to last a lifetime. A great closed proximity, angst enemies to lovers. They find something in each other, whoever addiction keeps getting in the way. I wasn’t aware this was a duet so imagine my shock when I came across a cliffhanger. Shocked doesn’t even begin to express the emotion damage It caused me.

First things first … *sigh* you gotta start at the beginning with this series. The books are interconnected. Also, this particular book ends in a pause to the journey and it’s necessary. This story is emotionally driven and fueled by a lot of heart wrenching conflict within our leads. They have a history. They have a past. They have struggles. Their life is dramatic and full of conflict. This is one of those stories where you dread turning the page at the same time as you can’t wait for the next chapter because it is hopeful. It is redeeming. It is love. GAWD, my emotions were all over the place with this story and I feel, no, I know, the most uphill battle has yet to come. Let me tell you guys something I know, addiction of any kind is a destructive disease that doesn’t care who gets in its way. Its sole purpose is to destroy. To battle and win such a monster is a herculean feat. I do not know what lies ahead for our leads, but I do know that Kacey has done an exceptional job thus far with this story and I am looking forward to reading the second half of Chase & Alicia’s journey! She has written two beautifully scarred and imperfect soles destined to heal each other. It’s just perfect …
