This is the first collection of short stories I read from this author and won't be the last. If you like horror and want to spend a night and a day dreading your shadow -and your own mind-, this is the book for you. I enjoyed the stories, especially the last four.
They are not only scary as in make you scream and sleep with the lights on, but scary food for thought. I am left wondering about our psyche and how fragile the human mind can be at times. It made me want to take vitamins and meditate. Really... I need a nice rom-com for reassurance.
I think the author has done a great job. If you're into horror stories, don't miss these ones!

My favorite was wake into a dream. I was recently in a coma but it wasn't as long as main character. I'm glad my life didn't turn out like his. I like reading my fire with lights out tv on low. And of course I'm in the bedroom while our kits are making strange noises throughout house while I read horror...... Thanks for writing. I like read more of your stuff later!

My favorite stories were Black Ice and Unexpected Friend. Those two had the most potential.

The rest of the stories were similar. A character has a bad dream. A character wakes up from a bad dream. A character has a nightmare. It got old after those two stories.

These stories suffer from a lack of consistency. Some of them are first person, others are third. Stick with one, please. Also, as a personal thought I find first person views in stories annoying because the letter I shows up about a million times and it gets a little old.

This book also has a nasty habit of telling to the point of repeating itself. Example.

Joseph could no longer feel Catherine(It's spelled different in the book.) Her scent had vanished. The connection had been lost. He could not feel her. The absence was unmistakable. Gone. The word rung true inside him. Gone.

Okay book, we get it. She's gone. This is just to the point of repeating yourself I feel like the author was just trying to increase the word count in the book.

This book will tell you just about everything from an outside point of view. Rarely do you see the things the character does or how. Just "Here is what the town, place, house" looks like.

Another thing this book does is the dots. The ellipsis... they are used too much and often in the wrong way, In your next book, cut all of these dots out. They don't build tension, they just show you're inexperience to the world.

Another thing is the lack of contractions. People talk and it's "Would not, Could not. It is. I am." Don't be afraid to say wouldn't, couldn't, "I'm. People talk this way and think this way too. It's natural to just see it. Spelling out the words like that turns into a distraction. There are some contractions, but more often than not they're just not included.

As for the fear factor. Most of the stories aren't really that scary. Most of them try to lean on the real life trauma and you could just get the same effect by watching the news these days.

It needs some work, it's average and easily worth the dollar. Give it a shot, even if you won't remember it in a week.

Cellar Door is Arthur’s second anthology of stories and while the first was good, this one is better. Arthurs writing has matured making the stories deeper, more intense and more frightening. Like episodes of the Twilight Zone or Night Gallery each one draws you in with interesting characters and each has a dark and haunting sense of foreboding. Like all good horror they leave the reader with disturbing questions and wanting more. I look forward to more from Arthur.

Jackson has promise. While I will suggest that his prose needs some maturing and better editing, he shows a rich depth of imagination that can be both graphic and subtle all at once. And I love the title (a reference to one of my favorite movies).

    Awesome reading

The most important element of horror stories is creating the mood. These stories certainly do that. Some actually gave me the chills. Be prepared for cliffhanger endings, though. Some of these engage the reader's imagination. A few, though, just seem unfinished.

The writing could use some help. For example, overuse of adjectives ("the blue Honda") and adverbs ("I instantly dashed"). Misspellings as well. Still, the stories do what the author set out to do. Recommended.

This feels like a good first attempt. The ideas are there, but are in need of further development. The typos, formatting and grammatical errors detracted from the stories.

An engaging and highly readable collection, with a common theme of horror arising from the most commonplace situations. The characters are rich, varied and really reach out.
