Change of Heart (Toronto Hockey) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 143 ratings

Ryan never has trouble scoring. For his pro hockey team, at least. Since divorcing his wife, things have been a little different in his love life. But he's always there for his son, even it it means making time to help coach his hockey team. What he doesn't expect is to find a new goal to shoot for: the team's head coach. Love is the last thing he's looking for when he walks into that ice rink, and certainly not with another man.

Nat doesn't mind straight hockey guys. At least, not when he's watching them on TV. But he's not going to let his son's team turn into the kind of bullying mess that drove him away from playing the sport in the first place. Nat is going to be a different kind of coach, so it's no surprise that he's skeptical when a pro wants to be his assistant coach. But Ryan seems interested in more than just Nat's coaching philosophy and the fact that they're both single dads.

Falling into bed together is easy. Getting a team of ten-year olds to the championship is way harder. Can Ryan convince Nat that they're a good combo on and off the ice, or will hockey push them apart just like it brought them together?

Change of Heart is a 48K MM romance novel with no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a HEA.

Ryan and Nat's story was great, I enjoy an unexpected love. The characters were engaging, who doesn't love cute kids, and the storyline was sweet and interesting. All in all a very enjoyable read.

I'll get the flaws out of the way first; it's maybe a little too cute and sappy and it sometimes loses track of who is who. For the cuteness, I needed this kind of escapist read on a bad day so I don't care, but I don't disagree with anyone that calls it unrealistic. More readers are likely to have legitimate issue with the fact that it forgets whose perspective we're reading and the characters to be referenced. It happens a few times, but the most glaring, to me, was when Ryan was telling Maddox (his son) that he and Nat are dating. Working up to it, Ryan asks Maddox how he feels about them spending more time with Nat and Maddox... Jae is Nat's son, so the question should be about Nat and JAE. It just needs a re-read by the authors and a few quick edits.

That said, I found this such a feel good read. I loved how comfortably and naturally Ryan just fell for Nat. I loved the hockey talk and the parenting and the friendship between Jae and Maddox that helped this feel like a family meant to come together. The third act drama was a little heavy-handed, but it did say things that need to be said so I was just here for it. It all just worked for me.

Really good book! Author is extremely talented so I will be honest with my opinion of this book.

It seems like this book was either not completely fleshed out or the author had to cut edges off to condense it. There is absolutely no real dealing with Ryan playing professional hockey other than mentioning hes got games, practice or the occasional kid wanting an autograph. This isnt the typical sports romance with team friendships/camaraderie with locker room talk then the highs and lows while playing games. Nobody even went to see Ryan play a game when he was at home. Weird. The only real hockey throughout this book is the kids playing.

Also... nothing was ever said about Nats profession except "office job." We know he went to college but no idea what he does.
We know what each meal they ate was, including the specifics of their orders but no idea if what any of the characters really look like. Ryan has a dark beard I think. Nat is maybe lean. That's about it. Jae was maybe Asian? We could have learned more about his adoption.

This book would go through a whole day or event and then the next paragraph just slipped in as the next day. I had to reread sentences a few times to catch up.

All in all it was a quick, easy read. It seemed like all the important details were skimmed off and we were left with a book that was a bit one dimensional... like superficial fluff. Even the ending left with serious issues to deal with and no real commitment.

Maybe this book had two authors? Maybe each wrote well about every detail of that moment but it left all the character details out. But, those are the most important because its character building we rely on for the romance to work.

    4 stars!

This was a cute and sweet Hockey romance between 2 single dads. It was everything I wanted it to be. It was a really interesting sports romance with the single dad perspective.

My one and only complaint was that if felt like they didn't address his coming out which would likely need to happen. It is sad it does but it would be more realistic.

Overall, this is a great short and sweet low angst hockey romance.

I love both of these authors, so when I found out they were writing together I was beyond excited! I have never been disappointed by either of them, so I knew I would enjoy this book. Both of these authors are amazing story tellers and this book is proof two authors are as wonderful as one sometimes.

This story is the perfect balance of chemistry, sweetness and challenges (with a dash of humor). I loved the realness of both the plot and the characters. Nat and Ryan were amazing, not only together, but as individuals.

I loved Ryan's son and his fellow hockey players, they brought a lot of joy to this story; and there's nothing more attractive then a really hot man in dad mode. The way these characters stayed true to themselves while also being open to new experiences made me love these characters even more; add in hockey and you really can't get better story telling!
I really enjoyed the humor and sassy mixed with the love and caring. This is just a beautiful story! More please!!!

This was a lovely m/m romance where a hockey player falls in love with the coach of his son's hockey team; hot and sweet and neatly avoids the homophobic freakout trope. looking forward to more from these authors!

This was a charming, engaging, poignant, grab-you-by-the-feels, hilarious, snarky, sexy, and totally awesome tale about Nat, Ryan, two sons, and a rowdy pack of ten-year old hockey players.
