Chasing Fate (Copper Creek Shifters Book 1) Kindle Edition
It’s time to put away silly ideas about whether or not you should be an Alpha and accept that it was never up to you in the first place. You can’t protect what’s yours unless you claim it and take your rightful place.
Chase Coleman is content with the life he’s made for himself as Sheriff of a sleepy little West Texas town. He might have walked away from his role as the Alpha apparent of his home pride but he didn’t regret making the choice to live as an out gay man. Paxton Summers could see that Chase was the Alpha of the town’s shifters whether he wanted to accept the title or not. Once he realizes that he and the sexy sheriff are fated mates, it becomes his mission to make Chase see he never had to choose between his destiny and being true to himself—because Copper Creek was exactly where he was meant to be. Chase just needs to see that he hadn’t left his future behind at all, instead all along he’d been Chasing Fate.- LanguageEnglish

About the author

Jacki James has been saying she was going to write a book since she was sixteen and wrote fanfiction (before fanfiction had a name) about her favorite Rockstar. She is a believer in love of all kinds but MM romance is her favorite by far. She has a romantic heart and a dirty mind and likes to write stories that let both shine.
When she isn’t writing she is either creating beautiful pieces of glass art or reading. She is an animal lover and dreams of having a small hobby farm where she can raise goats, chickens and organic veggies. In the meantime, she lives in town with her two cats, awesome husband, and two college-aged kids.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2022This was a cute fated mates romance. Chase is an alpha that is separated from his pack, and Paxton is a baker that has just moved to town. Chase’s lion recognizes him right away, and Pax feels the pull too. There is danger lurking, and there are a bunch of secondary characters that really enrich the story. The main characters have a lasting love, and I think they’ll continue to love in their HEA!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2024James' novella starts the series set in Copper Creek with the establishment of the new group of shifters. The MCs are a contrasting pair, mates, and so right for one another. Great horizontal scenes, an awesome fight, and a cast that will fill the coming stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2024I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book. Pax and Chase are so perfect for each other. I fell in love with the whole clan, but Dimas and Becky definitely have a special place in my heart now. Can’t wait to read the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2019This was such a good story to read! The MC's and supporting characters were so likeable and supportive of each other that you couldn't help but care and worry for them all. Each of them overcoming their own hurt, rejection, and heartbreak from there old clans come together to form this unique family where who they are and who they choose to love doesn't matter. I really enjoyed Chase and Pax's story from start to finish this story was well told and kept you into it. I really enjoyed this start to the Copper Creek Shifters and can't wait for the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2022I like the author and shifter stories, but this one was not as good as I thought it’d be. I didn’t enjoy the writing as much as her other books. The sex scenes were pages long and I got tired and skipped them. I will continue with the series and see how it goes with the new pack.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023Sheriff has welcome the new business owner to town. Baker Paxton is human but know the town has shifters living here, he can't understand the pull he has for Chase. Sheriff is defy & thoughtful. Sheriff Chase is a shifter and he knows Paxton is his mate. Chase & Paxton have a suspenseful road ahead with big future impacts. MM romance

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful start to this series
I love love love Jacki James and this new book was great.
Chase and Pax were great, together and on their own.
I loved the way the story flowed, and the world setting. I loved the little glimpses of the other characters (I am wondering who's next) and I can't wait to see what happens to them next.
Paxton was sweet, and strong and the perfect fit for Chase.
Chase was great, he is alpha but not overbearing, it takes care of the people he loves and really loved that about him.
I would have loved a longer story, just to see more of these two.
And the chemistry, off the charts (as usual).
Really great read that I couldn't put down

5.0 out of 5 stars Erster Teil

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read
Great first in the series. Gives the reader the background of the characters, insta-love is a bit hard to digest but a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I really enjoyed this book the start of a new series, I love series like this and look forward to the next book. Good characters and a sweet love story. Some suspense but thankfully for me anyway no real angst.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was okay...
Chasing Fate wasn't bad, but wasn't super awesome either. I liked the idea behind it, but found the execution lacking. Have to admit that I didn't really care for anyone besides Pax. He was the strongest character from everyone introduced in this book.
The thing I didn't get at all was the drama between Chase and his father. Was there anything at all? The way they behaved around each other in the end made the falling out a few years back (mentioned several times) rather unbelievable.
And the showdown with the 'villain' was underwhelming to say the least. If not for the sexy times in between this could have been a children's book, with the low tension it was emitting.
Overall the editing could have been better. Compared to the rest of the book the last 20% felt rushed and resulted in an abrupt ending.
