The Chocolate Works Kindle Edition

Henry Dawson knew that Levi Jones was his complete opposite from the moment they met. After all, what on earth could a nerdy, slightly neurotic risk assessment analyst like Henry possibly have in common with a wild, passionate and sexy chocolate-maker like Levi? The answer is, more than Henry could ever have imagined.
Henry Dawson lives a quiet life of perfect order and routine. His job as a cross-checker at a Chicago-based risk assessment firm means there’s no detail unmissed, no error unfixed and no room in his world for curve balls. That is until the day he loses his job, finds out his apartment building has been condemned, and receives an inheritance from an uncle he never even knew he had.
Now with no job, no home and no hope for the future, Henry suddenly finds himself in the tiny dead-end town of Los Encantados in the middle of the New Mexico desert, ready to sell the small roadside diner bequeathed to him by the uncle he never met. Given the circumstances, what choice does he have but to offload the diner—operated by waffle-loving Doris Day fan, Gracie Garcia—in an effort to try and fund his way back to his old life in Chicago?
But Henry was never planning on the arrival of wild, passionate and incredibly sexy Levi Jones. Nor was he ready for Levi’s crazy plan to turn Gracie’s Diner into the greatest Chocolate Works the world has ever known. For Levi claims to be the country’s finest chocolatier… or is he? Before he knows it, Henry is pulled into Levi’s plan to create the most delicious, irresistible, mouth-watering, knee-buckling chocolates the world has ever imagined. At the same time Henry finds himself falling head over heels for the reckless, romantic allure of a man who is the complete opposite of everything Henry holds sacred.
Will Henry succumb to the charms of a handsome stranger despite every instinct warning him that Levi is nothing but a snake oil salesman? Will the secrets of Levi’s past destroy Henry’s hopes of ever finding true romance? Or is Levi destined to melt Henry’s heart as he discovers that chocolate truly is the food of love?
The Chocolate Works is a mouth-watering 85K-word standalone opposites-attract gay romantic comedy. Warning: Reading this book WILL make you crave your absolute favorite chocolates and demand you indulge in them while you read… one delicious, delectable, discipline-crushing mouthful at a time.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2023It's a Doris Day movie, maybe the one about Josie and the train, I can't remember the name. If Hallmark ever did a "friendly" Rom-Com, this would have my vote. If I had the bucks to spend I'd even help produce it. It has so much relevance to today, it has so many layers of reality. It speaks to hopelessness and sheer grit, singularly and with friends on overcoming loneliness and adversity. It speaks to climbing to the roof and flying with eagles. It's all here - love, trust, failure, success, passion, joy. Read it and embrace it. Henry, Levi, Ricky, Gracie and Pancho will open your eyes and steal your heart.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2020...that is obviously a labor of love in more ways than one. In the end, I really felt I got to know many of the characters. One MC had a life of control & order which totally gets blown away. He has a trip & eventually an adventure of a lifetime. The author portrays OCD in an accurate, sometimes painful sometimes funny way. Love the authors way with words/turn of phrases. It's very hard when life is out of our control (how relatable during this 2020 pandemic). This story gives us a way out of being controlled & a new way of life, of taking control. Never giving up. Friendship. Respect. Love. All are found in this charming book. Least I forget, all the Chocolate metaphors 😋😋😋😋😋
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2021This novel is my first by Robin Knight, and I was surprised and pleased with the quality and care if their writing. Extremely pleased since I've literally read thousands of novels and more than a thousand in the romance genre the past two years. COvid 19. I've read so many insipid, lame, sex-dependent novels it's refreshing when I come across a writer who can describe time and place so creatively I'd buy a ticket or time travel to just see that specific moment if I could. But hey, I don't have to, that's what books are for! Still, this particular story is more than a 5'scene f*#k book. If you read as much as I do, you begin to see that some authors (even so-called popular Amazon writers) write obligatory 5 sex scenes. Their readers expect them. I expect, and hope, not to be bored with unneeded, titillating acts just to appease readers who don't want more. I do . And in this novel, Knight delivered. “Honey taffy?” I couldn’t help but ask. “Why honey taffy?” “Because honey is the work of bees, and bees are the ultimate providers. They are creators, they are warriors, and they will protect what they love even if it costs them their lives.”
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2023Overall, I enjoyed this read for its quirkiness. Good hearted characters except it too far into the story to feel much for Henry Dawson aside from irritation. Turned out well, though. Fanciful enough to be a fairy tale, no pun intended.😉
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2020Poor Henry. I felt for him throughout the entire story. To have him be so overlooked, dismissed, and thought poorly of for nearly the entire story was frustrating for me. Aside from sometimes being seen by Levi no one else ever truly tried to see him for who he was and was trying to be. Yes, he came off as being unfeeling, but even Levi reacted poorly to Henry's obvious distress. Nearly every person was guilty of judging him poorly and I felt most of it was unjustified. Henry did have some bits to make up for because he was a prickly and lost man and reacted accordingly, but with no one trying to try to see beyond the first unfortunate impression I felt so resentful toward nearly everyone.
This story really would have benefitted from a dual POV because aside from Henry's journey of acceptance and self-realization there was another redemption story parallel to his. Seeing it only through Henry's lens impaired the depth that could have been achieved. I really wanted to see Henry through Levi's eyes, something to give me a sense that Levi knew what an unpolished gem Henry was. There were moments that spoke to Levi seeing Henry as a balancing, grounding presence for him, but how much he was valued, appreciated, and loved was left off to nearly the end when almost everything was lost.
Aside from a few inconsistencies in behaviors, waxing a little too poetic when in the "chocolate mindset", as well as an overly dramatic big conflict, this was an incredibly sweet story (pun kind of intended) where there was a wonderful coming together of the townspeople, a valuable lesson in bringing out the best in everyone, and finding a home and family where you least expected. I enjoyed the story overall and felt a few fantastic moments made up for what Henry had to endure to find his place and his tribe.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2023A fun fanciful tale of a town down on its luck who with the help of a eccentric choclatier and up tight analyst, who had a really bad day, come to town and change everything. For as crazy as all the events of this book may appear they all just work into this fun tale.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2020When I started this book, I had no idea what story I was about to find between these pages. I saw reviews and postings saying this is a must read. I devoured this book. Henry, who has OCD, is left devasted. Levi, has a story that will eventually come out but he has a dream and his little group will come to make that dream theirs also. The Chocolate Works is definitely a must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Chocolate Works
It is an inspirational tale when a group of people come together to make something good. Even when there is a bad setback, they recover and rebuild what looks to be a success. As a side, Henry and Levi find love together.
