Claimed by the Hunter: A Post-Apocalyptic Alien Romance (Xarc'n Warriors Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 4,167 ratings

ALICE
It’s hard enough living in the Bugpocalypse; the last thing I need is a big, purple stalker. But that’s exactly what I get.
Kaj’k is freakin’ HUGE! And his sharp claws, pointy fangs, and massive horns are scary AF.

I reject his gift of food and flowers, but my massively muscled alien warrior doesn’t get the hint. He tosses me over his shoulders and carries me to his shuttle. I expect the worst, but all he does is purr at me.

KAJ'K
I’ve spent my entire life fighting the swarm. Genetically engineered to hunt the scourge across the galaxy, Xarc’n hunters are the ultimate predators. It takes a lot to take one of us down. Then, I meet the little human female who brings me to my knees.

My Alice is full of fire, and I have no doubt she can survive on her own
. But she’s my mate, and she’s mine to protect. When cannibals and scourge threaten my female, I toss her over my shoulder and carry her to my ship. Now that I have my mate in my arms, I’m never letting her go!

Series setup- Deadly monstrous bugs (that live in symbiosis with an even deadlier fungus) invade Earth bent on its destruction. Shortly afterward, purple musclebound aliens (who def look alien-yaaas) arrive on Earth calling themselves Xarc'n Warriors and stating that their purpose is to exterminate the bugs. Yet Earth's government, too suspicious of the Xarc'n Warriors showing up right after the bugs arrived, refused their offer of help and wouldn't budge on it. Big mistake. When nothing else worked, Earth's government used nuclear warheads on entire cities. Which only hurt their own and did nothing to the bugs. Once infrastructure, power and society fell, the Xarc'n warriors stepped-in to help regardless of the naysayers. By this time it was too late for a quick extermination. The bugs had built nests deep underground, lined them with enough live food to last for year's and multiplied like rabbits. But the Xarc'n Warriors were determined to help, their entire purpose in life was to kill the scourge and they didn't want to lose another planet to them. While fighting the bugs on Earth, the Xarc'n Warriors find compatible females for the first time ever. Giving them hope for a better future and even more motivation to save Earth. These are the stories of individual warriors finding mates and more to life, in what the humans dub the bugapocalypse. The series stays positive and uplifting, never going to deep dark places of despair or ickiness. It's a fleshed out world with vibrant characters, who go on hilarious and sexy adventures. Plenty of kickbutt action and romance. Book #7 Captured by the Hunter is my favorite in the series so far-such a kickbutt female-if you have to choose one I'd pick that one. This series is firmly rooted in my top ten (all time) favorite series, up there with Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarian series, Regine Abel's Prime Mating Agency series, Johanna Lindsey's Ly-san-ter series, C.M. Owens' The Wild Ones series, and more(if you havn't read them you're missing out!). Also if you sign up for Lynnea Lee's newsletter you get free books!! Yes I said books- plural lol. I've never gotten so many free books from a talented author, it blows my mind. All books in this series are available for free through Kindle Unlimited & can be read as a standalone (complete HEA) but also has recurring characters & storylines that are best read in order. Due to hilarious shenanigans, a little bit of sailor language and entirely explicit romps (it's an oh so dirty ride) I'd suggest for adult audiences only.

This book-Is book 1 in the Xarc'n Warrior series (there's a 0.5 book if you sign up for the authors newsletter). This is Kaj'k & Alice's story. Alice and her cousin Natalie live alone and are doing pretty great compared to others in the bugapocalypse. They made it through the winter but now they need to restock on everything. Natalie's leg doesn't work right anymore (she got sliced by a bug & the toxin numbed her leg) so Alice has to go out foraging for food and supplies alone. That's how she meets Kaj'k, who's a really funny and sweet alien warrior. He's never had a friend much less a mate, the closest he's ever gotten to a companion is fighting alongside other warriors for a brief time. He's been to countless planets and there's never been compatible females or even the slightest urge for him to mate. When he scents Alice it hits him hard like a punch to the gut and he gets a tad excited (huge understatement). He's so tired of being alone with the sole purpose of destroying the scourge day in and day out. Alice doesn't know it yet but she's given him something to fight for. Kaj'k first scented Alice last winter while he was busy fighting the bugs, but she was gone by the time he finished and the snow made it so he couldn't find her afterward. Now it's spring time and luck is on his side- she finally came back to the same store (yes he kept coming back to check). He follows her home that day so he'll never lose her again -but prefers to use the word escort rather than stalk lol. Kaj'k researched "how to get a human female and keep her" by uploading their human internet to his network, and though some of the things he found were disturbing- he's more than happy to try out a few on his Alice- he especially wants to go date. Alice isn't accepting his food or gifts but he'll never give up and is just happy to be in her presence. Until cannibalistic raiders invade her home that is- then he puts away his eager puppy side and brings out the warrior- throwing her over his shoulder and putting her in his ship. Her safety comes first and they will just have to agree to disagree on this one. Summer time is quickly approaching and with it comes the swarming of the bugs. Kaj'k needs to convince Alice to move in with him before that happens. They'll need to be ready to funnel the bugs through an intricate maze of buildings and objects, that way the warriors can pick them off one by one without being overwhelmed. Will he succeed in time? His old style translator doesn't help their communication issues but it sure is funny to watch (until he can replace it.)

Quote 1: “You have fire. I like, Little Flame. But bite is foreplay. You say no funny business. Be calm.”

Quote 2: "It is dark out, and these are dangerous males. You will stay in the shuttle.”I didn’t let her argue. I left and ordered my shuttle to lock up behind me. She was probably pounding on my shuttle door from the inside right now. My female was feisty. But my shuttle was built to endure more than she could deal out. My angry Little Flame could burn all she wanted in there; she couldn’t be worse than spitter acid."

This would be my worst nightmare, so having a bun bun would be a must I think. Love Alice and Kaj'k ! Wonderful way to start a new series. Can't wait to read Natalie's story. I can also see human men acting like jerks to them too, so not even a stretch of the imagination. Well done.

Alien romances have been my thing lately and author Lea is off to a good start. We stay on earth but the tech is well thought out and the back story of the Hunters seems plausible. The romance between the two is a little fast but it's a short book and when you think your life is over maybe you take a risk or two. Good couple overall. Can't wait to read the next one!

I haven't read the prequel yet so this was my first introduction to the series. I really enjoyed it. My only gripe is there is no TW for a brief mention of a deceased child. No star removal for it, bc I didn't know it would be something I'd require one for. I normally don't read post-apocalypse books so I'm unsure if that's fairly normal for the subgenre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant first book to a great series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 15, 2022
Alice has a will of iron and a determination to NOT be bug fodder. Given the current state of Earth though that is not as easy as it might sound. You see we are now living through what can only be called a Bugocalypse. Yep there are huge insecty things, the size of cars and bigger that are taking over our world and I have to tell you that humans, well we're not doing so great. There are also these huge purple males Xarc'n warriors, with horns no less, who are seemingly "protecting Earth" from the bugs as we are also no longer "alone" in the Universe. Anyway, I digress, back to Alice. She is desperately trying to find food for herself and her cousin as most places are looted and you have to do whatever you can to survive these days. She was doing ok she thought until it seems that a certain purple shadow appears on the horizon more often that she'd like. She's not that sure what his purpose is but she has no intention of finding out either. Kay'k has never known kindness, family or love although there is the bond of brotherhood between himself and his unit it is not the same and neither is the sweet scent that he catches on the breeze one day. He cannot help but follow and it leads him to a small human female. There is something primal that she stirs in him and he cannot understand it all. He tries to protect her unseen until the day when he has no other choice but to grab her and run. What happens next is going to cause something of a revolution for more than one species! if you do nothing else today, read on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this series
Reviewed in Australia on December 2, 2023
I brought, own, kept and read as many of the Xarc'n Warrior books as I can find. I was intrigued to find such as series and I was thoroughly surprised at how the story was written. I didn't get absurd aliens, I got well thought out aliens, a great background story and it is totally believable. I've recommended the series to my friends and even though they aren't into science fiction, they read as many as they could get their hands on and have now made alien or science fiction space romances part of their reading lot. You get enough background story to know why they are where they are, and apart from not being human, they are human like. If you've never read a series involving non humans, give this one a go, you'll be quickly absorbed into their world and won't want it to end. Each story has the same spine, but twirls outward from there, making each story individual. The physical interaction scenes are well thought out, well written and a lot of my friends want their own warrior. Not a leave them at the bedroom door romance, but not a romance based around just the physical interaction. If the individual stories don't drag you in, the warriors and their firey Human females will. A realistic future. A great portal to start your introduction to science fiction in general and a wonderful place for a very different romance. Highly recommended. Definitely a series that will be forever in my collection.

Man where do I start!! Such a good read. Ladies get ready to grab a blanket find a comfy spot and ignore all children and dive into a whole new world. There are not enough words to compliment this author with this new start to an explosive series. I started this book for something different and fell in love with this Purple Warrior is all kinds of protective and alpha, but for that special lady he is the biggest softy and cares for her so well.

When everything is exploding around this couple I love that they find time for one another in his space shuttle and have their own little world. Nothing better than a lonely couple coming together and easing the loneliness that both of them have endured the whole time the world was changing all around them.

I loved everything about this book the bugs, that were ever changing the creative ways that this author came up with the many ways to avoid them, but she also took in every factor that everyone would have to deal with.

I highly recommend this book and be prepared to be as hooked as I was!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars a fascinating idea

Fascinating and very scary, I like books where humans fight back, where they put aside their prejudices and do what’s best for all, while there are tiny elements of that in this book, it’s very little. But the romance is sweet and hot.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fairly good start to the series
Reviewed in Australia on August 29, 2021
The concept isn't too unique, terrible flesh eating monsters come to earth and decimate the population leading to an apocalypse, or in this case a bugpocalypse. Huge muscular aliens come to earth to help destroy the bugs and help the humans, and something about human women activates their mating instincts. It kind of reminds me in concept of The Galactic Order books, but the first book at least does feel different from those books.
I do enjoy some of the alien romance novels, but there's so many out there that it can be hard to know which ones to take a chance on, especially as so many are similar. I've just finished this first book and I haven't determined yet what I think of this series. The first book in any series has the important job of introducing the storyline, provide background and world building, and I think this book definitely fulfilled that purpose. I know the next book will be more important in determining whether I'll become more invested in the characters, so I'm willing to give the series a chance and read the next book in the series
Overall I found the book readable with only some minor typos. I would call it fairly light reading and the characters were reasonably likeable, although I probably liked Kaj'k more than Alice. I think it was a decent book to introduce the series.
