- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2019When I saw the cover and read the blurb I was intrigued, but wary. To be honest, I have read too many cringe-inducing interracial relationship stories in which authors had some trouble didn't getting their heads around the humanity of black folk. When one added in the sexual dynamics being explored, well. My walls were up.
I didn't have to worry. The MC are achingly human. The love story was so delicately drawn and I learned so much about that part of the country! I re-read very few books but I re-read this from cover to cover. And I can see myself re-reading for comfort in the years to come.
I look forward to more of Erin's work. Thank you so much for for the care and talent you put into this, and for sharing your work with us! Clean Break was a pleasure to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2019I loved these this book, but I was crying so much I had to wipe my eyes to be able to see the words on my Kindle! Connor and Travis seemed to fit together so well, I just wanted to force them to communicate better! They both had their own fears and legitimate concerns, and the push/pull between them felt very realistic. The last two chapters before the epilogue melted my heart. I hope this isn't the last book in this series; I don't want to say good-bye to any of these characters!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2019This book is one of the best so far this year. I loved Travis and Connor. Travis is a big strong guy who loves to bottom and be spanked, and Connor is a particular guy who is a bit OCD. And after he gets together with Travis, he finds that he likes a little kink also. These guys fit together so well, but think they can't be together b/c Connor's going to stay in Eastern OK to run the family farm and Travis needs to get the hell out of dodge so he can go to law school and work to help LGBTQ asylum seekers. They hurt each other while trying to find their way together, but they're both such lovely people that you root for them the whole time. Fantastic story.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2020I need to say first, I love angsty reads but when the angst is not needed and it’s just added to keep the book going, it becomes boring. I couldn’t get on board with Travis, he annoyed me and he plays games and doesn’t deserve Connor but I’m not the author and to each his own, I skipped to the end because I couldn’t take it anymore.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2019The writing was excellent. I loved the setting of this book as well as the first book in the series. I do feel like the first book was slightly better than this one but still outstanding writing. My love of this book is especially surprising to me because I am NOT a fan of anything BDSM-related and this had quite a lot of dom/sub kind of sex. Pretty mild BDSM but still not something I usually appreciate. I still really liked the book and the characters. It lost momentum toward the end and I found myself skimming parts of the book, but all in all I enjoyed it a lot.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2019This is an excellent follow up to Controlled Burn, which I adored. Don't let the cockroaches put you off reading this; they are minor and well-mannered costars.
The characters are wonderful--I was particularly drawn to Connor, and I loved seeing more of Travis. The sexy times were hot, the conflict believable, and the emotion so real. Just read it already!

Clean Break is the second installment in the Farm College series, and can easily be read independently as a standalone with little to no confusion. However, there is a crossover from the first novel, where the reader gets to enjoy seeing more of Joel and Paulie. This won't be confusing to new readers, but will be an added bonus for returning ones.
What I want to applaud Erin McLellan over is the balance. Opposites attract, playing to their strengths and weaknesses, and I don't just mean in relationships. I felt the author worked hard to balance all the plot points and character traits, to create a story that balanced into something believable.
I'd list this as new-adult, since Connor and Travis are college seniors. Even though they are already adults, they're about to leave the protective nest of college. In a way, there are coming-of-age aspects, as they struggle with what they want to do with the rest of their lives. Connor was conflicted about the future, while Travis welcomed it with open arms. What I adore about reading a novel on the cusp of change is that we've all been there, able to understand and empathize, because change can be as thrilling as it is terrifying.
Clean break pulled the emotions out of me, which isn't something easy to do. I 'felt' the characters to the point they resonated with me, which had me reading the novel as quickly as possible to see where it would all lead. Connor especially, because of his anxiety.
Banter and slow-burn are two of my favorite yummy plot devices, but added to that was the off-the-charts steam, as power-exchange was explored. This wasn't a large portion of the novel, but I appreciated how the author didn't muck it up, allowing it to feel natural instead of tossed in for titillation factor.
Trying to avoid spoilers... I adored Controlled Burn (the first in the series), easily passing out a rare 5-star rating. Even though I was entertained by Clean Break, and fell hard for Connor and Travis, I'm not much on unnecessary drama, so that took a bit of the entertainment factor away from the story for me.
Highly recommend this series to MM Romance fans, and am definitely looking forward to more in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Erin...
4.5 shiny stars from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Another well-written story from Erin. Loved Connor...Travis I alternately wanted to strangle and then hug. By the time he'd worked out that he wanted more [much more] from Connor with his OCD and quirks, he'd already broken poor Connor's heart. And then when Connor forced his hand, he couldn't back down on his decision to run to Oklahoma City and become a lawyer at a non-profit, believing that Connor would be stuck running his family's farm operation in Elkville 🚜. Well, sometimes things don't always work out like you want them to....
Nice catching up with Joel and Paulie from Controlled Burn, and I'd love a story about Lena [Connor's sister].

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, Some Intensity.
This was the 2nd book in this series and they do need to be read in order to understand some of the background. I gave 5 stars because the story and character development really is well done, writing is excellent, dialogue flows. But even though I liked the mc’s, the side characters, and pretty much everything, somehow this story did not grab ahold of my insides the way the first book did. There was some serious heat and some spanking kink, but I didn’t feel the chemistry between the 2 mc’s that I was hoping for. Maybe I shouldn’t have read both books back to back. Still, highly enjoyable. Such a relief to read my favourite genre (mm romance) but to have excellent writing and real depth. And best of all, no insta-love. This unfolds over a believable time frame for a couple of young guys.

Good solid read. Edited to professional standard. Hea ending. Angsty and sweet, both characters needed a swift kick and got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book
I absolutely loved this book. Connor and Travis were great and it was nice to see mental health issues being portrayed so well.
