Carter Beckett. That is all. I literally want to leave the review at that. However, you must know what it is about Carter Beckett that makes him the entire review. I must say that it is very obvious that he is a male written by a woman. BUT, I was okay with that. He was perfection in every way, despite the fact that he was the biggest player to begin the book. However, if he genuinely cares about you… he is the biggest softie, goofball, and fiercest protector and lover. He gives his whole heart. What got me the most about him was how much he fought for what he wanted. How he didn’t walk away because things were tough. Because he knew what he wanted and went after it whole-heartedly. How he sat down and communicated that he was scare, that he was unsure, that he had no idea what he was doing because he’d never been in a relationship before. He was everything a woman would ever want. And I cried for the sheer fact that he doesn’t exist. I also admittedly highlighted possibly everything he ever said in this book. Definitely can’t be 100% sure about that, but I do know that I highlighted A LOT. And yes I say he was perfect, but it wasn’t as if he didn’t have flaws because he did. He’s also just so charismatic that you love him despite those flaws. Olivia fell and she fell hard and I 100% do not blame her. I fell right along with her. I really related to Olivia and I loved her because she gave him such a hard time. She didn’t fall at his feet just because he was some big shot hockey player. If anything, that’s what kept her away. I throughly enjoyed when she knocked him down a few pegs. What I loved the most was how she knew what she wanted from a relationship and she wouldn’t settle for it. She let him know up front that she was not the one for one night stands or casual dating, that she was the type to go all in and that she would settle for nothing less and that’s exactly what he gave her. Then there’s the side characters in Hank, Carter’s mother & sister, Cara, Emmett, Garrett, Adam, etc. Carter’s relationship with Hank was another highlight of the book for me. Hank was the sweetest and funniest old man. Oh my god y’all he was His mother was also hilarious and oh so excited to see her son settle down and then turn around and make fun of him for it. The second book follows his sister and while I feel like we did not get to know her as much in this book, I would say I look forward to reading her in the second, however I don’t know if I can because I don’t think anything can top Carter and Olivia. Now this does have the typical third act conflict that romance books are known to have and I’m actually very happy with the way it played out. I loved how even though Olivia was hurt and broken, she demanded answers and refused to give up on Carter. She knew something wasn’t right and despite it seeming like he broke her trust, she trusted herself and she still trusted him at the end of the day to not give up on him, knowing that whatever it was they would get through it together because “that’s how they did things in this relationship.” I seriously swooned if that wasn’t already obvious. There are numerous of reasons why you should read this book. It is the only one so far this year that could even come close to touching Twisted Hate by Ana Huang because up until now Twisted Hate was the sole front runner.
