A Cup of Joe Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 139 ratings

“You’ve never had a chance to explore yourself.”

Bruce LeFlorette is the owner of a struggling boutique coffee shop, the business passed down to him by his late parents. With the family legacy on his shoulders he’s had no time for romance, especially when the big corporate cafe opens up just down the block. His only respite from the stress of his failing business is by blowing off steam at his local boxing class.

“In this game, there’s only room for one to win.”

Joe Jordan, CEO of the hottest new chain of coffee shops, is back in his hometown following the opening of his store’s newest location. The success of his business has been his life’s dedication—but recently he’s started to find himself wanting more.

“I don’t do anything half-assed. I get the feeling you’re the same way.”

When Bruce meets Joe at his boxing class, the two hit it off fast—especially when Joe finds himself no match for Bruce’s fast fists. After a hard defeat, he just can’t stop thinking about the fiery younger man. The attraction between such passionate souls is undeniable—but what will happen when they discover they’re one another’s biggest rival?

A Cup of Joe is a 40,000-word standalone contemporary gay romance, complete with lots of heat and a happily ever after ending.

The story is wonderfull. It's sweet and a bit sentimental, but in a good way. Though maybe not quite realistic. I love it anyway. It was hard for me to agree that there is a fault of Joe - that Bruce's cafe is going to be closed. It's business, come on! Fortunately, the cryses had been over fast. Anyway, I like the author's style and I'd be happy to read his other works.

I highly recommend this book, A Cup of Joe, in spite of the rather corny title. The author, Cody Ryder, knows how to build character, sustain suspense and interest, and create superb romance. He writes very well indeed though there are some mechanical errors (I think they typos) and a couple of name confusions, which do bring the quality down a little (hence the 4 star rating when it actually deserves a 5 star). As a reader one is drawn into Bruce's life, his wonderful mother, his amazing staff, and the excellent family cafe he runs with it's superb sandwiches, so one suffers with him as his business faces closure and rejoices with him when he finds love after being closed off to relationships for so long, so the devastating clash between his new found love and who he is in the business world is something we have dreaded all along as we read the story and learn who Joe is and what he stands for. Of course, it looks impossible that their situation can be resolved but between a mother still communicating in dreams with her son, the creativity of a man in love who desperately wants to help his lover, and the magic of romance impossible situations are turned round into the wonderfully possible. Something I especially love is that these are two men who come over as men, who fall in love and who learn how to pick up the broken bits and forge ahead to win as men are wont to do. This is gay romance at it's best.

    Cute story.

Bruce had grown up in his family's mom-and-pop coffee & sandwich shop. It was his passion and life until Standard Coffee opened a branch down the street from his café. To de-stress and keep fiit, Bruce went to the gym for boxing classes, which is where he met Joe. There was an instant attraction between them, and they became friends, with a zing of attraction getting stronger. They fell for each other, until Bruce discovered that Joe was the CEO of the company putting him out of business! Can Joe persuade Bruce that they're meant to be together forever?

I enjoyed this book and like this author. Only thing that bothered me was the typos, too many to count. Added words, deleted words, repeated words, and a wrong character's name in one place towards the end. This takes away from the reading experience and I had to reread some sentences several times to figure out what was supposed to be written. It makes me feel bad for the author who no doubt has no control over the ebook typing. Please fix this for his sake!!!

I am addicted to M/M romance novels. I have literally read hundreds. This one is worth your time. I had never heard of this author and bought the book on a lark. What a great weekend read. Bruce and Joe are the idea gay couple. Try it. You'll enjoy this one.

Bruce is following in the footsteps of his parents and doesn't know how to create a life of his own without losing everything he loves. His coffee shop is not going not going to survive the competition of a new shop in town.
Joe is an entrepreneur, successful although he feels that life is passing him by. There is something about the guy he met at the gym, the one who put his lights out.
Bruce's mom is gone but her advice lives on.

This was a nice short sweet read. I enjoy a good Insta love story every now and then and this is one of them. Bruce and Joe are so sweet together, a few misunderstandings, and not enough communication lead to a major blip in the road but they get their HEA.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interestinb, but Unfulfilling

So, I was OK with the start of this story: interesting characters, interesting challenges ... believable coincidences. BUT, then it began to fall off the rails. I give the author credit for trying to create a story that makes sense, but there were just too many times I would shake my head in disbelief. I would suggest more honesty between both main characters, and a willingness to delve into their shared emotions, combined with actual truths about their complications. I liked both the main characters, and had I been the editor, I would have had them recognize each other's conflicts much earlier and then framed the story around how each could "help" the other to achieve the positive end result.
