Heartbreaking and beautiful! Dare Me is a MUST READ!
This is the first book of Rebecca Shea's that I've read, and I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was blown away with this story. I fell in love with Saige and Holt's story, and my heart broke over and over again during this read. The prologue alone had me in tears, and I knew I was in for something totally unexpected, so I took a deep breath, and dove into this book and am so happy that I read this beautiful story!
Saige Phillips has had a rough life, she's experienced great pains and has a hard time letting go. When she gets the job of a lifetime in Chicago she takes it, and never expected her life to change even more. She's settling into her job, and has made some great friends in her coworkers, so when they go out for drinks and play a simple game of truth or dare, she wasn't prepared for the dare she was dealt.
Holt Hamilton is the co-owner of the company Saige works for, and also one of the most eligible bachelors in Chicago. He has a secret, and as the reader you pick up on in pretty quickly, but his secret doesn't stop him from perusing Saige and falling for her, even though it should.
I thought after the prologue the tears would stop, and they did for a while, I laughed, I swooned, and I fell in love, and then the tears came again. I wanted to hate Holt at times, but I couldn't find it in my heart to do it. I understood why he did what he did, but I think he should have come clean a bit sooner, it may have saved some of the heartache for both him and Saige.
Dare Me is a beautifully written story, and even though you may have read books like this before, trust me, you need to read this one. The way the story flows, the characters, everything about this book is flawless. I started it last night and while working today I couldn't stop wishing that I was done with work so I could get back into this book ASAP and find out what happens. I definitely encourage anyone who isn't afraid of a little bit of tears, a lot of sexiness, and an all around great story to pick up your copy of Dare Me by Rebecca Shea today!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseUnless I’m on the fence about a book, I rarely read reviews before going in. If I know I am going to read a book, I don’t want to have any other people’s opinions coloring my reading experience. I regret not reading reviews for this book. I had continuously put it off because I didn’t think it was going to be heavy enough for me. I was horribly mistaken in that assumption, Dare Me was deep and meaningful and I loved every second of it.
The prologue was, God, I don’t even have words for what it was. It was intense, devastating, painful, dark. It was so dark. I was wholly invested in Saige finding happiness, in whatever form she could, as soon as I finished it. After losing nearly everything when she was so young, she deserved to have something restore all of those pieces of her that had been damaged by her losses.
To steal a line from Saige, ‘I don’t do insta-love’. Rarely does it work, in real-life or in books. However, from the moment Holt stepped on to that elevator with Saige their connection was electric. Even in the limited interaction they had it was obvious the level of affection he had for her was immense and they had terrific chemistry. Each interaction after that only served to reinforce how amazing they were together and how real their love for one another was. I adored how she challenged him in a way he obviously wasn’t accustomed and how he supported her without question. I loved their insta-love.
I loved the characterization in Dare Me. I completely expected for Holt to be the cookie-cutter controlling, secretive billionaire, in reality, he was anything but. He was kind, vulnerable, honest, and supportive. At first blush Saige seemed very meek and insecure, once she had the opportunity to be completely herself, she was amazing. She voiced her opinions, made no excuses for the things she did and did not want and had more backbone than most other heroines in positions similar to hers. Yes, she had moments where she completely broke down under the weight of the things she had experienced, but there was never any question as to how wildly resilient she was.
Once again, Rebecca Shea has won me over with her words. Each of her stories finds a new way to pull me in and keep me invested in the couple at hand finding their own happiness. I should have never doubted how emotionally charged Dare Me would be, because she has proven to me, time and again, that the depth of her stories and her characters is a driving force in her writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I DARE YOU to read this book ;-)
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow woh woh did that just happen...as soon as I started reading this book I was glued!
I have to admit this is the first book by Rebecca Shea that I've read and after finishing it I'm thinking - why haven't I discovered this author sooner!!
This book is awesome!!
Right from the beginning you fall into this amazing story with so much feeling! Ultimately, it is an amazing love story that any romance lover/chaser of happily ever afters will adore, but it is also so much more. Her writing style is spot on for me, I knew after the first page it was a keeper! Her attention to detail is fabulous - you can't help but picture it all happening as your reading!
I laughed out loud, I felt awkward at times and boy did I cry - I still cant believe I've JUST discovered this author! The main characters are great, Saige and Holt are a fiery little duo - Dare Me definitely isn't for the feint hearted! Damn are there some crazy steamy scenes!! Can I have a Holt Hamilton? If someone could bring me one that would be awesome!!
There is so much in this story that is relevant to today that you can't help but feel what the characters are feeling, the author makes it so easy for you to do so! Ultimately, you will get lost and tangled up in the love and heartbreak and you won't be able to put this book down - I certainly couldn't.
If, like me, you are only discovering this amazing author, then I highly recommend you read Dare Me, I'm certainly going to swat up on the rest of her books now :-)
I DARE YOU to read this book ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars I dare you to read this book.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLoved this book so much, when you sit down and read a book from cover to cover without wanting to stop you know you have a 5 star read in your hands.
Loved Saige, even though she and her family struggled and suffered they were strong and loving. She fought and won...she was a lot stronger than she felt she was. I was awed on how she build a good life for herself even with her struggles and pain.
Holt, I loved him too...almost as much as Saige. What he did what he did, not only for Saige but others....he's handsome, giving and loves his mama.....a perfect man.
Saige and Holt are perfection together.....loved their story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A daring read 🛩
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt started with a Dare.
A game of Truth & Dare.
Fuelled by alcohol Saige dares her boss Holt to go out for a drink with her & so the fun & games begin.
They are both consumed by their pasts which as the story unfolds you may gather Holt is hiding one big secret & this is his undoing.
There's a bit of suspense, angst, time for a tissue or two as well as some hotness between these two. But that's all I'm going to say. Read it to find out the conclusion.
One question, I wondered how this would've played out if it wasn't for the Dare?
