Dark Musings Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

“Poetry that jumps off the page and squeezes your heart. I loved every word.” -New York Times bestselling author, Alessandra Torre.

The dark side of Xtina Marie's poetry delves into intense emotions: heartache, loss, hurt, pain, rage, and a dangerous consuming love which can drive one insane. Dark Musings is not a collection! The author returned to the centuries old practice of Narrative Poetry—the telling of a story through poetry. If you believe you are brave enough to explore the savage emotions of the human heart; Dark Musings will test your mettle.

She's Hot, Heavy and No Good For You, But You Want Her So Bad

Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

Xtina Marie's Dark Musings explores the blurry line between passion and psychosis. Alternately erotic and sanguinary, Dark Musings frequently arouses but often leaves you wondering why. Sexual pairings many times are referred to as conquests. Xtina Marie's prose goes into a world where these conquests surpass the state of love and drift into a sea of obsession and possessiveness. Question: If the woman assumes the role of victim and lures you into an obsessive relationship, who was the real victim?

Sado-masochistic themes run throughout Dark Musings, so one often wonders if the "victim" is laying a trap as suggested by the four-part "Black Widow", or is the narrator merely looking for someone who enjoys the adversarial bliss as much as she does. Undoubtedly, the narrator is frank about her desires, as in the five-part "Oh So Completely" and "I Need It Dirty", with language that is bound to whet many men's appetites, "let me lap at your seed", "there are no safe words". But once you find yourself in caught Xtina's web, and your carnal craving is placated, you alternately may find yourself wanting to get out while at the same time begging for more.

Packs a Punch

Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

Dark Musings is a short, intense trip through a wash of emotion. Love, hate, lust and depression. It is short, but that just makes it easier to devour. Whether you're in bed, cooking dinner, or even throwing laundry in the dryer, you've got time to read at least one of the poems within this gorgeously dark little tome.

A visit with hell

PaperbackVerified Purchase

Get ready to visit hell. Prepare to be scared. This book is full of darkness and depth. I would not want to dwell too long in this author's head. What a scary place to be!! The only complaint I have is that it WAS TOO SHORT. I can't wait to see more from this author. I hope she will show us some of her more happy, sweet poetry in the future. She must have some hidden away somewhere! I would highly recommend this book.

About the Author

The Accidental Poet: Xtina Marie is an avid horror and fiction genre reader, who became a blogger; who became a published poet; who became an editor; who now is a podcaster and an aspiring novelist-and why not? People love her words. Her first book of poetry: Dark Musings has received outstanding reviews. It is likely she was born to this calling. Writing elaborate twisted tales, to entertain her classmates in middle school, would later lead Xtina to use her poetry writing as a private emotional outlet in adult life-words she was hesitant to share publicly-but the more she shared; the more accolades her writing received. Her first novel: Desiree is well under way.

The Accidental Poet:

Xtina Marie is an avid horror and fiction genre reader, who became a blogger; who became a published poet; who became an editor; who now is a book publisher and CEO of Hell Bound Books Publishing with her co-host on The Panic Room Radio Show, James H. Longmore.

She has two additional poetic narrative editions, Light Musings and Darkest Sunlight, a combination of both light and dark poetry. In 2018, Xtina fell in love with free verse, and began writing Without the Confines of My Rhymes, which was released in 2019.

Xtina has such a natural voice for dark poetry. This collection had an assortment of ideas and themes that almost told a wrap around story and I liked how some of the poems had sequels. I was digging this book from the first page to the last. Marie should be required reading for all, I'll definietly be reading more of her work soon. If you're seeking blackened words of perfection, I recommend starting with Xtina Marie.

This was the best poetry I have read in a long time. It is dark, erotic, deeply moving. I could feel every emotion as I was reading. I admire the rhyming, something I find hard to do with my poetry. It's highly original writing and Xtina will drive your soul mad with lust as you are reading. It is very raw, and I felt the poetry flowed so smooth. I especially liked Black Widow and Poisoned Lace, but I loved them all. I have read Mary Oliver, Maya Angelou and others, but I think I had been waiting for this kind of poetry.

I enjoyed the hell out of it!!

We have all experienced the agony of loss. Some feel the wound deeper than other's. When your soul walks out on u and never looks back, it's leaves you gutted, open and bleeding. For some the wound never heals. I understand the devastate loss of ur heart. Luckily mine left me a beautiful girl behind who holds my spark of life. Even if the loss of is fresh when I look at her.

Has to be best this far as, it lays the groundwork of blurred lines of reality and inner musings. Not many people say what they mean, nor do what they mean or pose as they muse. The mind has away of protection as we protect ourselves from the world. Many things can be construed of this poem from different people, which is why it gold and will be hard to top as it is poetically perfect.

It seems the #DarkPoetPrincess might be reflecting the madness of a desire revenge against a lover that has wrong you or the mental anguish of wanting your ex-wife to fall madly for you so you can be the one that walks away. Thus allowing them to know experience pain. Either way irrational revenge seems the key note factor.

My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

This is not a book to ever finish with
To toss aside like a good - even great novel, as in 'I know the story'
I've read - re read and pertained to my life these beautiful verses so many times
For me it will always be at my side like Alice in Wonderland was once - although not in the same way
Dark Musings blew my mind - I really thought that all the great poets had gone many centuries past and that I would re read all my favourites forever trying to find something new in them - trying to feel that moment again that sets your heart on fire
That is until I picked up this book
As I say I cannot say I've finished with this book as I never will
A true classic - black as a moonless night and curious as Pandora
