Dead Silence: A Dementon Academy of Magic Novel (The Everlasting Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 292 ratings

Dying didn’t mean I was dead. It meant I’d been chosen.

My name is Everly, and I'm haunted by the dead. Or maybe hunted is a better word since it seems the dead want to make me one of them. My only ally is Shadow, the dark entity who’s been by my side protecting me since I was a child.

A night of bad decisions sends me careening down a road with no return. Dying wasn’t part of the plan. With a single touch from Shadow, both my life and death change. He’s chosen me. But for what?

I’m either going crazy, or my new reality is a world of nightmares. One thing is certain, no matter how bad it gets, I cannot stay dead. He won’t let me.

Dead Silence is book one in The Everlasting Chronicles. Reader Discretion advised due to dark subject matter.

Why I waited so long to start reading this series is beyond me but I’m glad that I finally started it!! Ever is such an amazing survivor and the way her story is shaping up to be means that the whole series will be awesome. K. G. really knows how to spin a whole world and make you wish that it was real so you could visit!! I can’t wait to start the next book!!

Hmm this has great potential. It has a similar vibe to “The Summoning” by Kelley Armstrong. I’m a little unclear on what Everly is but I want to know more. I hope Shadow is a good guy in the end.

I’m a sucker for a story that has depth, and this delivers. Ready for some creepy honesty? I was drawn to reading this story because I’ve seen creepy shadows lurking about, myself. So, I was naturally curious to see how a story played out using this device I just happen to be acquainted with.

Unlike Ever, I don’t hear voices, or see the dead, or think I’m crazy. But I totally get where she’s coming from! And her struggle is so real, and visceral.

From having an alcoholic/abusive parent, to having a guy in her life who only wants ONE thing (if you catch my drift), to exploring the dangers of hard liquor, and finally, trying desperately to kill herself... this story is painfully relatable.

As such, beware of triggers, and also note that the author in no way glorifies or encourages suicide, even including a note about it at the end of the book.

I am for sure hooked on this. It has a slightly horror...( okay maybe more than slightly), slightly psychological thriller vibe, that seems to be heading toward some kind of academy thing for the part of the series. And like Everly, we’re left with a whole mess of questions that need answering, and this series holds all the promise of being fast paced and captivating to the very end.

So, I do recommend, but with some reservation as this book deals with a whole mess of sensitive topics that could be very triggering to some. Basically, know yourself and what you can handle. It’s a great book!

I really liked the book premise but lord I’m still more confused than intrigued. I’m super glad book 2 is already released or I’d never go back to this series. Pretty sure book 2 should have at least part 2 of book 1 so we had some insight as to what is going on overall. I’ll see what book 2 is like and go from there.

OMG!!! This book is amazing!!! This story is about a girl who can't tell the difference between reality or what's in her mind. A supernatural/psychological thriller. She's losing it, and she's not sure she can trust the world around her. There are things in the shadows trying to get her, voices in her head. She hears them, she sees them, she can't sleep. Is death preferable? Can anyone save her? What about the Shadow man? Does he want to help her? I went into this book not really sure what to expect. From the cover, you can kind of tell it was gonna be somewhat of a suspense/thriller. But I definitely didn't expect what jumped off the pages. It's an edge-of-the-seat, nail-biting, gripping, thrilling, blood chilling story that keeps you guessing. You're gonna love it. I did.

A brand new series by K.G.Reuss, and she doesn't disappoint!
It's well written, leaving the reader with questions and mysterious answers. It kept me at the edge of my seat, wanting to get the whole picture right away. Can't wait for the next book!!

Everly, a seventeen year old girl, has had a difficult childhood with an alcoholic father and... creatures in the dark.

"The situation was sort of a which is better: the Devil I knew or the Devil I didn’t know. Did I want to see it coming or would I prefer to hide beneath my blanket in the dark hoping that it didn’t show itself? Or worse. Touch me."

Dead Silence is all about Ever thinking she is going more crazier by the day. Seeing things and hearing things no others seem to see or hear..

"-...Isn’t that what insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results?”"

If you're like me, that you can't sleep with a hand or a foot outside of the bed at night...then you better lift up your feet from the floor when reading..and turn up the light! Just saying...!

This is a dark in your head mental read. You are along with Everly as she tries to hold herself together as everyone around her watches her appear to lose her mind and her life. This felt like an opening book for the series as you are left feeling like there is way too much you still need to know.

This is a new genre for me and the have to say: I inhaled this book as if it were the air of life. Though I'm normally a slow reader, I've finished this book in less than a day and am already eyeing book two (which I originally told myself could wait til next month... I lied to myself, let's be real.)

This book features the events that led to Ever becoming Special. Though who wants to be special if it means being haunted by the Dead?

The cast is great, the characters coming to life and the story is fast paced and action filled. I very much recommend it.

First, i am french, so sorry for the mistakes 😉

I’ve read the 3 first book in this serie ... and i couldn’t put them down.
It’s a dark and beautiful story about Everly, who is chased by deads and protected by a mysterious Shadow since she is a child... Believing she is crazy she will be introduce to a dark new world, where she will discover that she is very special, and dangerous...

Book 1 « Dead silence » is Everly point of view.
Don’t be afraid, it’s dark, sometimes hard to read because she is so desperate... and there is a lot of things that we can’t understant at first...

Book 2 « Shadow song » is Shadow’s point of view.
i was afraid to re-read something i knew first, but it’s totally different and we learn a lot...

Book 3 « grave secrets » alternate between the 2 point of view.
I loved that everything don’t go how we would like.
The 2 characters have their personnality and doubts and what comes is logical.
Both characters and story are well developped.
I’ m in love with each character’s. And the way the author take us in the story make me live the story in 3D surround ... try it you can’t love it.

Wow, I'm not sure exactly what is happening in this story. So much information and no answers. Ever is haunted by voices and creatures out to make her die, but there is a shadow man who shows up when you least expect him to and saves her. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers but this will be one story I want to continue to read. The characters are well developed and interesting, each with their own uniqueness. A must read! . I recieved this arc and volunteered to review it.

Move over Cassandra Clare, k.g.reuss is the new girl in town and she's producing some fantastic books!

This is my second read of hers and I was not dissapointed.

I loved the progression of the characters. Every step of the way has you wondering what's going to happen and if Everly the main character can be saved.

I can't wait for book 2 and to find out more...

If you are looking for that read that's young adult but a little bit different, then this is for you. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down!
