When a beautiful temptress turns up to work her magic on Kel, Rachel begins to worry. But the Fae prince is never very far away, and his magic is drawing her even closer. Then there’s the problem of the diamond – sooner or later the real owner will want it back.

Mystery.Intrigue.Romance

I write romantic adventure novels inspired by my love of history, particularly British.

I was born near Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood, but now live in Australia. From here I re-imagine the fascinating world of the Regency and the Victorians, perhaps inspired by early memories of ancient architecture, cold seas, and snow.

I also love learning Latin (yes really) and the philosophy of the Stoics, AMOR FATI, or LOVE OF FATE. So love and other catastrophes feature heavily in my stories.

After a somewhat less interesting start with Kel being a drunken gambler, things picked up when he met Rachel, the woman he chose to marry—since he had only a week’s deadline to find a wife and all. The magical and Fae elements were intriguing throughout, although about 2/3 through things felt a little stalled, with the same temptations by Alderly yielding not much change. I would hope Kel continued to make some character improvements at the end, with his new life giving him a purpose so his boozing/passing out/acting foolish would be minimized. I’m not sure why Rachel put up with that, although it did serve the plot in order to let them develop a friendship and romance meanwhile. A few sensual scenes are included, but there’s an appropriate fade-to-black at the end for those of us who enjoy relationship building more and don’t need to read all the bedroom-scene details.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping story where things keep going right

I REALLY loved this book. It is a delight to read -
plenty of intrigue, great characters and plot twists. The hero and heroine come together under less than ideal circumstances but in this book lucky things happen to good people. The setting is a place I’d like to go back to (a moody old house in northern England and a cosy magical room nearby). And even the villain is someone I’d like to meet there.
The refreshing thing about the book is that when things go weird the characters lean into it instead of running from it. Everything gets complicated and confusing for them but in a ‘Midsummer Nights Dream’ way. The book throws off the usual tropes of regency romance (class, debt, difficult house guests) by mixing in magic. And yet it still feels very regency and very romantic. Trust me, this is a real gem (pun intended). Read this book if you fancy a page turner of pure, happy escapism.

Loved this book from beginning to end. I couldn’t put it down. The characters were so easy to relate to, and I was drawn to them as they faced another world they were not familiar with. The ending had some unexpected surprises. Great book.
