Devil's Kiss (Sunset Cove Series Book 2) Kindle Edition
Ends up mattering the most?
Derek Pearson likes to think he’s an easygoing guy. Uncomplicated, upfront, and unapologetic with what he wants. His what you see is what you get attitude is on prominent display for anyone who cares to look, and his foul mouth is right there to back it up should you miss the point.
However, what you see isn’t always what you get, and only a select few have ever glimpsed the real man under the brash exterior.
Among them? Professor Jordan Devaney. Complicated, high-maintenance, and vibrant, he’s Derek’s opposite in every way. From the moment they saw each other, a love-hate relationship began.
But what happens when one person wants more?

"This is the second book in the Sunset Cove series and it was AMAZING!!! " - FMR Book Grind
"Ella Frank has given us a beautiful story about love, loss, friendship and acceptance. Two people from very different worlds finding each other when they weren't looking. Their relationship is honest and raw and a jumble of lost moments. But that's what was so great about it. The build. The back and forth. The honest to goodness fascination these two seemed to have with each other. " - Reviews from the Heart
"Ella Frank is a pro at blending real world angst with romance world steam and passion. Devil's Kiss captures beautifully flawed leads Derek and Jordan in all their glory and struggle. " - The Reading Room Blog
"What a breathtaking love story! " - Shayna Renee's Spicy Reads
"Devil's Kiss is an emotional, beautiful love story that I didn't want to end, and I hope for more in the future." - BJ's Book Blog
"All in all, this entire book was perfect. It was an exciting and entertaining read with words so beautiful it had me shedding a tear. At other times their interactions had my toes curling with pleasure and have I mentioned how hot this is? It had everything - it was emotional, it was exciting, it was sweet, it was funny and it was hot. Definitely recommended." - PopKitty Book Reviews

- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2016From the very beginning the sexy prologue grabs you and has you begging for more, and I've grown to expect that from Ella, talk about making you want to turn the page! She has brought us two super dynamic characters which we've met before from Finley, book one. I absolutely loved meeting these characters in the first book, so I was so excited to learn they were getting their own story.
Derek Pearson, whoa is he HOT and full of attitude, he's everything you want in a tattooed, cigarette smoking bad boy and once you get to know him the layers peel back and you get to know him on a much more vulnerable level. Derek has a pretty bad past and definitely sat at the wrong end of the poker table when it came to parents, and living with an abusive, homophobic father for years is enough to make anyone turn stone cold and put those walls way up high. This made me love him even more, I love my flawed characters who don’t let their past define who they are.
Jordan (Posh) Devaney, he's privileged, smart--not smart, more like genius and he was raised with a great set of parents and is Derek's opposite in every way. Except the hot way, they pretty much match up on the "holy crap I'm hot" scale. I LOVE Jordan's no nonsense attitude and tight pants and brightly colored personality. Jordan also happens to have a nice past as Derek's professor, and I just loved reading those early beginnings of how it all started. I didn’t realize when I started reading this what a righteous love story it would be. And that might sound strange because the description of the book doesn’t necessarily allude to that, but oh boy, trust me in saying that it truly is.
These two have a silent challenge going on between them in the very beginning, and watching that grow and fester was pretty rad. Talk about your sexual chemistry! Holy crap, I swear you'd think these two would rather fight than anything thing else, they have this kindergarten game of "I hate you" going on and to be honest some of the banter back and forth was freaking hilarious. Beyond that, was a beautiful friendship that was being formed. The slow build up was great, because you know the whole time they just want to rip each other's clothes off, so bravo you strong willed beasts, because I would have failed that challenge way before you did. But holy cannoli, when the clothes DO come off, watch out! I mean it’s Ella Frank, do I need to say much more? Her sex scenes are some of the best out there, if not THE best, no joke this woman can write some sexy times.
Derek and Jordan’s journey was so much fun to read, and of course I read it slow, like I do with all of my Ella books, but with this one specifically I’m so glad for my slow-poking ways because what was waiting for me throughout was just wonderful to read. The emotion behind these characters is so real and unhurried, it’s sweet (yes, sweet) and funny and raw and emotional and I just love how Derek and Jordan came full circle and complemented each other. These two men have secured a very special place in my heart, and I encourage all of my book loving friends to go read it!

4 stars!!
“You answered…that’s everything to someone with something.”
One thing I can always count on from Ella Frank is a hot as sin MM read and Devil’s Kiss was no different. Ella Frank always manages to capture that intensity and that deep connection that only two rutting men can bring, add to that the emotional side of fighting fears and prejudices and you always get a beautiful story. While Derek and Devaney’s story is far from pretty at times, the undertones of their beginning and the significance of their ending only cemented them as characters that will stay with me for a very long time. The time in between however was fraught with fighting feelings, flip flopping emotions, pasts and insecurities and two stubborn as hell men that knew what they wanted but were too scared to admit it or act upon it.
“That first day. I wasn’t so sure teaching was for me. Then you stood up and removed your glasses and dared me to make a difference.”
Derek Pearson and Jordan Devaney were introduced in Finley, the first book in the Sunset Cove series. Their best friends, Finn and Brantley were lovers, a romance that started while they were still professor and student and while Devaney and Derek’s circumstances are the same, the way their relationship panned out was totally different. It is here, right at the beginning that all similarities end.
“Derek’s size and p***y attitude was like a bright neon warning sign flashing: Danger. Danger. And it was like a rush of blood to his head, and not the one on his shoulders.”
Professor Jordan Devaney was not your typical alpha man, while he only topped that was where his alpha tendencies ended, the bedroom. This man was your typical, cliché gay man, but he owned it in style. He was flamboyant, colourful, entertaining and totally endearing, you couldn’t help but love him. But underneath that colourful persona was a man that was extremely wealthy, who didn’t need to work, was extremely intelligent and had a heart of gold, a man that was a philanthropist and always wanted to give back, I adored him and he totally earned his nickname of “Posh Spice.”
“Good for you. He needs someone with a firm hand. And you sure have the muscles for it.” ~ Devaney’s mum
“Mother.”
Derek was a man that had an extremely hard time growing up and this is where the majority of his issues stem from. His mum left when he was young and left him at home with a homophobic father and brother. A father who was also an alcoholic and had no qualms about taking out his temper and frustrations on his pansy son. Everything Derek had wanted from life, he earned and with the help of his best friend, Finn, it was a miracle he had come out from his childhood unscathed, but he hadn’t…while the physical scars heal, the mental ones always remained. Derek was our tatted, deep, brooding, gym owner who had muscles on muscles, the total opposite to Posh, but everyone needs a He-Man in their life.
“How much can one person possibly take before they effing lose it?”
Derek and Devaney’s story spans eleven years, eleven years of whip lash and a lot of time spent apart. But during the times they are together, the majority as friends and confidantes, Ella Frank really builds their foundations, piece by piece and it is this slow build that gives you that character connection and a greater understanding of the men behind the façades. These men have wanted and lusted after each other for years, many frustrating years, but I honestly believed that their time wasn’t right and it took them that time and their journeys to appreciate what they had and really get to the bottom of lust versus love. These two were soul mates in all their confusing ways and emotions and I felt that because their relationship was born from friendship first and foremost that they would stand the test of time. It just takes a while for them to realise it.
“Don’t lie to me. You have never lied to me. Not even when it effing hurt.”
My only little criticism was the time jumps, in Jordan and Devaney’s story I felt crucial moments in their lives were left untold. I wanted to know what happened in their time apart, even if it was just small glimpses or flashbacks. While reading between the lines I knew that those feelings never subsided or waned, I wanted proof that I was right to believe in these two from the get go. Maybe it is me being greedy but I just wanted my blanks filled in. As usual though, Ella Frank delivered a fantastic epilogue and I am hoping that this is not the last we see of out Sunset Cove boys. In this book there is another character introduced, Dylan, who was Derek’s flatmate. Our surfer, model certainly seems to have an interesting story to tell and I am hoping it is one that Ella delivers.
“One of these days, we will get this right.”
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2022If you love to get deep into your feels, then this is the book for you. I stayed up late reading, unable to put this one down, and also was emotional over the hardships overcome by Derek. He is a fighter and a character who more than deserved his happy ending. There was no better character to pair him with that Posh (Jordan). Derek’s serious, broody personality was balanced by Jordan’s outspoken and often outlandish one. The way that Jordan cares for Derek is just too darn sweet for words.
Derek has never had it easy in life, but he refuses to let anything keep him down. He may be a tall, intimidating man, but he keeps a lot hidden behind his attitude and muscles. Jordan sees more than Derek would like him to see and these two unlikely characters strike up a friendship one day after Jordan royally sticks his foot in his mouth. After calling Derek out in the class Jodan is teaching, they have a rocky beginning that turns into so much more.
I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book. It’s one of those stories that will stick with you LONG after you’ve read the last page. In fact, I’m writing this review 2 weeks after I finished reading it and I still feel all the emotions that this amazing story brought out of me. I MAY (no, I really did) message Ella with all my angst and adoration for this story. Fortunately for me, she is used to it by this point. This is an absolute must read from Ella and I’m certain I will be rereading this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars My heart is so full of love for Derek and Jordan!
It was once again awesome! The laughing, giggling, snorting, squirming, heartbreaking, crying....I loved how the story was going. Also how the serious issues were part of the story and not taking over everything (not sure that makes sense, call it lack of sleep as I finished at 4am lol).
Derek and Jordan couldn't be more opposite. They meet at a time where Derek is nearly at his worst. Yet they both can't defy their attraction. Their banter and teasing is hilarious and makes you love them right from the start.
When Derek hits his lowest low, he doesn't reach out to his best friend Finn. No, he finds himself trusting the young man he tries to fight off. For Derek, something that doesn't come easily. Although Jordan is determined to keep it on a friendship level, even he can't fight Derek for Logan.
Devil's Kiss takes us over a couple years where these two form a strong bond, yet it's one very precious and can break easily. Through all those years, Derek can be certain of one think...that Jordan always answers his phone. Like a lifeline. But some topics are avoided like the elephant in the glass house.
Ella Frank's writing and characters and stories amaze me time and time again! I loved it!!!!!! <3

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome
I was a bit apprehensive going into Devil's Kiss as I didn't like the first book Finley that much but wow, Devil's Kiss was awesome. I adored Derek and felt so sorry for him at times. Jordan was feisty and fun but I did want to give him a good shake every now and then! I've read the PresLocke books and it was great seeing Dylan in this - I did wonder where he fit in!! Fabulous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
Derek and Jordan's story is so gut wrenchingly beautiful! Set over the course of more than a decade you'll find yourself crying and yelling at them to just do it! They are beautiful men with witty comebacks that will leave you laughing your arse off! A definite can't-put-this-down read!

Hello, angst. Did I miss you or what? This book is full of it.
And it was so addicting.
I loved everything this book had to offer. Ever since I read Finley, I knew I had to get my hands on this story. Derek and Posh stole my heart in the best way and I fell in love with them. Their story was one hell of a journey and I'm so happy that they got their HEA. Honestly after everything we went through in this book, they deserved it.
