Dispatches (The Perseid Collapse Series) Paperback – February 14, 2015
With the United States crippled, belligerent powers rise to fill the void overseas, catapulting already volatile regions into chaos and war--hastening a worldwide collapse.
On the home front, most citizens continue to struggle with the loss of power and critical infrastructure, exhausting their thin supplies and turning to the mercy of an overwhelmed government to survive the winter.
As spring arrives, Alex Fletcher faces a difficult choice. With their food supplies running low, Alex questions the feasibility of staying with the Thorntons and Walkers at their isolated lake community. While searching northern Maine for a solution to his dilemma--he stumbles on a secret with the potential to destabilize the entire region.
Dispatches concludes The Perseid Collapse Series, answering reader questions about the world scene, while cleanly delivering the Fletcher's fate.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2015A fitting, though unwanted, end to a great series! This installment finally addresses the U.S. response to The Event, as well as some of the worldwide fallout in the presence of a weakened U.S. After the opening of the first book in the series, I expected more "Big Picture" information, but I happily enjoyed the narrower focus on Alex Fletcher and his family. Konkoly does very well with his characters and their development, creating realistic personas and dialogue. Alex, his family and friends are all people that could very easily live on your street or in your neighborhood. I am encouraged by the volume of Kindle World activity around this series because I don't know if I'm ready to walk away from "The Perseid Collapse" realm, yet. Konkoly has done a good job of tying up the loose ends from his storyline, but there is plenty of room for other authors to create compelling stories. I sincerely hope that I will be able to see this series at a movie theater in the near future - the story, its characters and its action would work well as movies. Ultimately, I am a big fan of Konkoly and anxiously await each of his novels. This book delivers and demonstrates why so many other authors want to hop into the world he created. Great job, Steve!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2015It's a good read if you can handle the violence.
The violence is what makes it a "thriller," though.
.
On the down side, we constantly encounter weapons used by the good guys and the bad guys mostly described by a series of letters and numbers. The guns generally shoot around ten rounds a second and would qualify as actual assault rifles. They come with various aiming systems. They fire various kinds of ammunition including brute-force .50 rounds, down through varieties which will pierce various kinds or body armor, rounds which will tumble through the air or break apart or bounce around inside the victim's body causing all kinds of damage as well as those which will simply pass through. Mostly, these are also described by another series of letters and numbers.
.
I looked a few of those up. It is rather surprising what a variety of sub-machine guns are available out there.
.
The hero or protagonist has a reasonably adequate personality background. Some other characters do not. We have a U.S born white anglo saxon computer geek suicide bomber. That is all we know about him and that makes no sense at all. The suicide bomber part is in conflict with every other thing we know about him. The only computer nerd I ever met who was even close to being a suicide bomber was a bully who had graduated from West Point, and he was generally too gratified by pushing other people around to blow anyone up.
.
Things get a little messed-up toward the end when the author introduces a group of mercenaries whose leader has not been adequately explained. Mercenaries are crazy or immoral people who will do anything tor money, so the rank and file do not need that much explanation.
.
Despite all of that, I kept reading. The protagonist's motivations were enough to keep me going. I read the free books and paid for two more.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2015Steven Konkoly does it again by completing his Perseid Series in a convincing and satisfying manner. I love the way he introduces the reader to the terrifying events happening around the world. We get glimpses of jihadists and imperial Russians and a Republic of China Marine. The author’s style is intense and he forces us to intensely fear these apocalyptic turn of events. It allows us to understand what is happening worldwide before we zoom back in on the Fletchers precarious situation.
The Fletchers now seem like members of our own family by this novel. Food is running out and their sailboat has been confiscated, ruling out their ability to sail off into the sunset. Making matter worse, the governor is attempting to secede from the national organizations set up in the event of a disaster. The military, RRZ and Homeland.
The final book in this series is filled with non-stop action as the Alex tries to return home to his family. His son, Ryan, steps up big-time and plays a more prominent role in this book. This is one of those books that you will read quickly once you pick it up. Konkoly is the king of apocalyptic fiction and after reading this series it soon becomes evident why. His writing is powerful and muscular, and he wastes no words in telling this tale. I felt closure with this book and look forward to his next project.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2017This is a four book series, once started I couldn't lay them down. Read the series in three days. Ya, you have to sleep sometimes. The characters in this story are very well developed. They are real. You can identify with them. The series is well written, seamless. If you think you could deal with a major catastrophic event in your life, if you think you are ready, read this series. This situation is so plausible and expected by the powers that be. We have been warned. This large family has prepared for whatever might happen. Then it happens. No spoilers. But except for a couple of coincidences critical to the story line, (which are definitely not going to happen in our lives), I doubt they would have made it. Are you counting on FEMA? Forget it. Not gonna happen. This took place in Maine. I recognized every road, every town, etc. Really brought it home. The books never slow down and they make you think and wonder. They are also excellent books to read. They would make a heck of a good movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars The series just gets better!
Having read all of Steven Konkoly’s books prior to the Alex Fletcher series I didn’t know what to expect given some negative reviews.
After a slow burn of a start this series just got better and better. Steven knows how build the tension and his knowledge of post-apocalyptic survival tactics is supreme. Yes, you have to suspend disbelief but not doing that would be boring!
I loved the Alex Fletcher books and if you haven’t read any of his other books then you are in for a treat. I’m just sorry to have come to the end of reading books written by a very talented author whose grammar is good and imagination is terrific.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Worlds end??
Well got to the end at last. A great series. The final book jumps a few months ahead after Alex and his family have moved North and had to struggle through a harsh winter. There peace is broken when Alex gets involved again with the Army. Again there is plenty of excitement and action and a big twist to the story brings it to an interesting end, but not a conclusion. What happens in the future.. well who knows.
The bigger picture is covered in more detail at the start of the book but would have liked to hear even more of what's going on around the World and that would have made an interesting book on it's own.
Enjoyed the whole series and Steven Konkoly writes a good book. Looking forward to more from him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound series & conclusion
Well written, fairly consistent in balancing action with content.
While maybe not riveting, the reader will have little angst at wanting to read the lot.
There is some real world knowledge adding to the feel, albeit with a stretch here and there to be fair.
