Drop Dead Gorgeous Kindle Edition
No, not like that movie.
I’m a coroner, and yes it's the kiss of death on my dating life. When men find out what I do, I'm lucky to hear “it was nice meeting you.”
Until I almost accidentally kill Blake Hale with my car.
Instead of being freaked out by me, he’s intrigued.
No matter how much I try to scare him off, he keeps coming back for more.
And for a follow-the-rules guy, he’s breaking them all for me.
We couldn’t be more different.
He’s all goodness and light, with a brain that’s even sexier than his six pack.
I’m danger in a pretty package, and no amount of knocking on wood is going to make the happily ever after he’s promising come true. But…
With each word we exchange, my resolve weakens.
With each heated look, he gets further into my soul.
With every kiss, he consumes me by accepting me just as I am.
I deal in death all day. He sells life… insurance. What could possibly go wrong when I start believing in Mr. Right?
Drop Dead Gorgeous is a full-length meet-cute Romance... with a twist! It is a standalone.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2021What a delightful, quirky treat! This is EASILY the best book that I’ve read by this author, and I’m always excited to get my hands on her new releases. I really wasn’t sure what to expect going in, and that made the journey all the more interesting. It’s part rom com, part murder mystery, and part dark comedy – the perfect combination of elements to make this highly entertaining and bingeable. And the hero? LOVED him. He’s like a sweet alpha with a nerdy side, a guy who is willing to put in the work to get his girl. It was so refreshingly different that I was completely invested from start to finish, and enjoyed it the whole way through.
The story follows Zoey, a woman who has gotten used to talking to dead people more than she does live ones… and not in a supernatural way. She’s a coroner who is considered something of a black widow around town, since she deals with death on a daily basis and seems to bring it to those she spends time with. So when Zoey runs into Blake – literally – she does everything she can to stay away. But Blake is an insurance agent who has already calculated the risks, and he’s determined to win a date with the mysterious beauty. When their careers bring them together on a case of sorts, these two have no choice but to get closer.
I loved all of the offbeat comedy, the relatable (yet eccentric) characters, and the unique storyline. The tone felt very different than anything I’ve read by this author – in a good way – and it kept me on my toes throughout. And I really, really liked the growth in intimacy. Blake won’t let Zoey write him off, run scared, or keep things casual, so the payoff at the end of this slow burn was so good. There’s a great growth in intimacy that makes this otherwise light, fun read feel like it’s got some serious depth. We’re also introduced to some other intriguing characters, and their stories would likely be just as interesting. Here’s hoping that we get more like this from the author, because this was a seriously good read. I received an early copy via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review of this quirky caper.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021Coroner meets insurance salesman, and sparks fly. Not exactly the setup that I'd think would set the world aflame, but this romance really has some oomph behind it.
There is NOTHING I love more than a hero who is willing to work for his heroine's affections. The guy who will go the extra mile to see to her protection, her comfort, and most of all, her love. So, when I started to read Drop Dead Gorgeous and I saw how Blake had to work to get through Zoey's defenses, I was hooked.
I found it interesting that Zoey's good looks have been weaponized against her her entire life, and her nickname of Drop Dead Gorgeous, is anything but a compliment. This isn't a case of where the heroine is oblivious to her charms, and spends the entire book unaware that she's hella pretty. Instead, Zoey's ostracized from her community because of her unlucky history and her looks are anything but an advantage, which, considering real life, you'd be hard pressed to believe. And yet, here, it works. If someone notes how pretty she is, it's followed up by how deadly being near her is. She's lived under a cloud most of her life, and I liked that Blake knew how fragile her heart is, and wanted to care for it. They're both quirky and weird but as you keep on reading, you can see how well they fit together. Their Firsts are good, and the sex scenes are more emotional yet unafraid to paint a picture, if you know what I mean. I enjoyed them.
There's a subplot involving a possible murder that they're investigating, and I do think the story suffers a little towards the end for the sake of the "suspense" part of the storyline. Basically, it's real easy to see how it's going to play out, but the ending still gives me the satisfying HEA vibes that I needed, so I was willing to look past the mystery not being that mysterious in the end. It's my first Lauren Landish book, but I doubt it'll be my last.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2021I have read books by Lauren Landish, which is why I decided to pick up this book. I love the way she writes rom coms, so I was intrigued by the description of this book. But, when I started to get into Drop Dead Gorgeous I was floored! This was not only a rom com but it was also a dark comedy of sorts! AND there is a possible murder mystery!! This book went from really good to amazing with all of that going for it!!!
The book revolves around Zoey Walker, the county coroner in her small town. Everyone calls her Drop Dead Gorgeous because of her past, which I found extremely unfair!! Don't get me started on the people of Williamson County because I wanted to slap them all for the way they treated her!!! The worst part is that Zoey believes them and has isolated herself from everyone so she doesn't cause any death or harm to them.
Blake Hale is just a swoon worthy hero if there ever was one!!! Loved him!! He is a life insurance salesman, ironic right!! He and Zoey meet when they get into a car accident. He begins his pursuit of Zoey immediately, but in the most patient, caring way. Once he sees how the town treats her, he's appalled!! This also gives him insight on how to win Zoey's heart. He is so patient and loving in his approach!! He tries his hardest to show her how smart, caring, loyal, amazing, and beautiful she really is.
In the mist of this is the death of Richard Horne. Zoey is the coroner on the case and Blake is the insurance agent for his life insurance. They both think that he didn't die of natural causes, so they decide to investigate on their own. This part of the book was a complete bonus for me!! I wasn't expecting it and it added so much to their love story!! I won't give anything away, but this kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end!!
There are some great secondary characters, some surprise you at the end! Williamson County is probably the biggest secondary character there is, because it is the reason behind Zoey's character.
I loved this book! It was funny, engaging, swoon worthy, captivating, and mysterious all wrapped up into one book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 😳🤪🥰
Another great work by the author which feels like a concoction you would have any given day as it's funny, exciting, thrilling, it makes you laugh, sad, nervous.
Although, the book revolves around delicate topics like Superstion and Bad Omens it's a fun read. Lauren makes you understand the depths and effects superstions can cause keeping the book a light read which is a commendable job.
It's a good romance with a murder mystery anything additional that's required is just a cup of coffee to enjoy the read.
Blake is handsome, intelligent, dorky, a trivia genius with a good sense of humour. On the other hand, Zoey is Drop Dead Gorgeous, a beauty with brain, sarcastic and funny.
It's hilarious the way she reacts to people's innuendos.
It is heartwarming to read how Blake sheds all the walls Zoey has surrounded herself with. Never giving up.
Not gonna say much as it's a mystery but honestly it's an amazing read. Would re-read any given day. Bonus the is extended epilogue 😁

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and sweet.
I first discovered Lauren Landish during Lockdown and read My Big Fat Fake Wedding.
I’ve read many of her books’ series since then.
Her writing is addictive.
Especially in these times.
I understand that it’s erotica, but even if it wasn’t.. I mean minus the hot and steamy scenes too... I’d have read her books for sure. I love her stories and the characters who’re so caring about each other.
So Blake and Zoey meet when Zoey hits Blake’s car. They both are safe. But Zoey’s history and the people in her county have made her believe that she’s sort of a bad omen for those whom she loves. This has made her insecure and wary.
I love how Blake looks beyond her walls of insecurities, self doubts and fears. And I love how he appreciates not only her body but her brains too. And I love how his character isn’t larger than life. He’s mostly portrayed as guy-next-door, or so I think.
It takes time, but they both work hard for this relationship. Blake because he has to get past her walls. And Zoey because she has to believe that she can have a happy ending.
There is humour and there is emotion. And then there is persistence. Not stalking, but determination. And not a lust for bodies only, but a genuine interest in winning the hearts.
Oh and it’s a murder mystery too. And there is humour in that too. I mean Richard Horne, aka Dicky! Seriously!?
The supporting characters are good too.
Just a teeny tiny itty bitty problem. The words primal and animalistic are used in almost all those romance-erotica novels. Can we find or create more words please?

5.0 out of 5 stars Muito bom!

Zoey is the coroner, the person the town picks on and one who has the worst luck, but all that is surface level, when an unexpected crash bring Blake into her life, finally things go deeper.
Blake is a romantic at heart, and with fate on his side he not only meets Zoey before working with her but gets to see under the layers that many forego....
This book has it all, romance, comedy, danger, chemistry and mystery. Loved it.
