    Anabelle is a fantastically believable character, very real. Michael... slightly less so, but he's the fantasy boyfriend, so I guess that's to be expected. Right from the start you feel at home inside Anabelle's head. O'Brien does a great job of writing a story that unfolds naturally and yet has some great twists and turns in it too. More than once I found myself exclaiming "Oh no you did NOT!" to something someone said or did. And I have to say that the steamy scenes were high-caliber writing: very well done! Could've used a little more spanking, though! ;) But that's just me. O'Brien loves her edging and she is a master at writing it. This book is very aptly named! Don't miss out on this story. Grab it and devour it.

    I will start with what I loved about this. The characters. I loved all of them. Including the supporting cast of Patty, Justine, Scott, and Noah. They were incredible, as were the main characters. Their intensity was palpable and I could really feel them. The plot of this was amazing as well. How this relationship begins clear to how the story ends was well constructed and thought out.

    My dislike was the repetitive, almost predictable, scenes. When the steamy parts came about, it was mostly the same. Then closely followed by a major fight. This happens several times in the book. I really wanted to love this book so much because the characters really drew me into it, but the repeat of actions and reactions made it fall a little flat for me.

    That being said, I have read another series by this author, which I absolutely loved, and will continue to dive deeper into her writing.

This is a story of a ballerina and and a very Dominant Alpha Male. I truly ended up liking Michael because like us all things happen in life to keep us from trusting and especially those we want to love completely. Their could be a bonus epilogue or another story line from this story with Annabelle's best friend Patricia and her friend Noah.

    Michael and Annabelle, what a train wreck. Nothing much going for them but strange sex, and a doomed future. Simone WILL be back, looking to pick up on 'motherhood' and I can just see Michael caving, going all authoritarian on Annabelle, about letting Simone be a permanent resident in their lives.

    I have mixed feelings about this story. I do not like Michael, he is such a jerk (actually, he makes being a jerk a step-up, personality-wise); I do not like Annabelle, she needs to grow a spine. Do author's actually re-read their work? Can Ms. O'Brien not see what a catastrophe these two people are? Though the story does give us a happy ending, if allowed to play out, I see nothing but unhappiness in Annabelle's life. Michael is unstable emotionally and physically. He is a slave to his previous lovers: Rebecca and Simone; he would rather continually crush Annabelle's heart, humiliate her even, than cause these two discomfort, and retroactively sweep them from his life. He doles out 'punishment' over imagined infractions and petty jealousy; has extreme, myopic double standards; and appears to be bipolar. He considers the withholding of an orgasm the height of lovemaking; while I grasp the concept of anticipation and sweet torture, Michael's methods border on cruelty. Not boyfriend material.

    I am giving this story four stars. Although it has left me feeling unsettled and unfulfilled, angry even, I have read the follow up story, "The Bed, The Blindfold, and The Belt" and fell in love with the characters (though the girl's name in this short story is "Natalue", same person, different name)).

    I have read books by this author before, so I knew I was in for a good read, but Edge of Torment delighted me with the depth of passion and tumultuous story of Michael and Annabelle—a couple whose heart and soul are laid bare for the reader, as we follow the ups and downs of their relationship.

    The two have hidden secrets—secrets that, when discovered, drive them apart. Michael is a man who needs to dominate his partners sexually; Annabelle, although a strong, independent businesswoman, discovers a submissive side to her of which she had been unaware. Will their secrets, when revealed, drive them apart? That is the question that we, the readers, long to discover.

    This book pulsates with emotion as we are carried along by this passionate love story. I loved it and stayed up long into the night to finish it. The author pulls us in magnificently with this well-written and absorbing book. I highly recommend it.
