- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019Colin Sinclair's, Elji and the Garlass, journey is executed with believable characters and an engrossing plot that hooks you in from the beginning. While some elements of the story can distract the reader, it is fair to let go considering, Elji and the Garlass, is the author's first book entry. And first entries tend to have a learning curve that the author identifies from their target audience and then applies to future works.
Considering one of the major accounts for a rookie author's first book entry that portrays the character(s) as traveling with plot rather than discovering, effecting, or creating the plot as the story develops. It's wonderful to experience an author that has performed the latter, thus developing a more in-depth story that is usually learned through practice.
Upon reaching the conclusion I felt touched, as if the author somehow reached in with their characters and took a part of me and placed it within the journey. This is most often found in experienced authors having years of experience.
Colin Sinclair, has delivered a fast paced, fantasy, part 1 novel without utilizing the common four to six hundred pages. Elji and the Garlass, not only steps into the ranks of the fantasy genre, but punches its way through saying, here I am! It is only a matter of time before this series is noticed as an excellent fantasy story.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2019Overall the story is interesting and it explores the reality behind reality, if that makes sense. The theme of love and hope is prevalent through the tale. Explore the role of “gods” and the concepts that should motivate society.
There is a larger cast of characters and keeping them straight takes time. There is a “Matrix moment” where one character gains knowledge and abilities at an unfathomable rate and ruins that character’s natural story progression, which could have been built up to better effect. There are several relationships and all are based on love at first sight, even the plutonic ones, making them feel unidimensional.
From a mechanical side, there are some long-winded discussions and repetitions that slow things down. It’s overall written well with a few places for improvement.
This is a philosophical story. In that, there is hardly any action and what action exists takes place in short sections.
With all that said, it was a good read all in all.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2019In this debut fantasy novel, the author creates a vivid new world that takes the reader on a magnificent journey. The author's imagination is vast and immediately thrusts the reader into the action. There are many characters, each that have their own endearing and sometimes not-so-endearing qualities. Themes of love, destiny and fate all intertwine so that the characters begin to appear real in your mind! Fans of Lord of the Rings or similar books will definitely enjoy this read!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2020Would you leave everything behind if you had the power to change the universe? Elji, a young boy is forced to make that decision after stumbling upon a magical black rock, known as the Galrass. Unbeknownst to Eliji, the black rock provides its rightful owner, the power to travel to different universes, time, and space. Three out of the five creators of the universe: Elgred, Charina and Lphapsot called upon Eliji to help them fight against Framin. Framin, was one of the creators of the universe that has fallen from grace due to his desire to obtain power, creating havoc and fear on planets, leaving the inhabitants and that planet to its timely demise. Colin Sinclair, is a masterful storyteller that has crafted a powerful and imaginative story with strong, complex characters introduced and woven into the storyline.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2021My feelings about "Elji and the Galrass" is that it's the epic conclusion to a previous tale we never got to see.
While filled with interesting characters and concepts, the fact that we immediately launched into universe-saving shenanigans made it difficult to connect with the characters. The story also jumped around a lot, with no central protagonist, and the fight scenes, while quite well done, always tipped in the favour of the good guys which to me made the progress of the story lack an exciting forward tension.
The joyfulness of the characters in the face of darkness was a refreshing through line of the story, and while the bad guy's plot felt a little unsatisfying, where he ended up at the conclusion of the novel was quite intriguing.
Anyone who likes epic, world-saving capers mixed with philosophical discussions will probably quite enjoy this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2019Elji and the Galrass appealed to me as a light fantasy with Tolkienesque elements and some large-scale magic that reminded me of Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber. It wove together many familiar tropes in the genre - a boy with a destiny plucked from obscurity, a Manichean contest between forces of hope and darkness, magic artifacts and ancient civilizations. The story moved quickly in drawing the cast of characters together and immersing them in a detailed cosmology. As a tale within the fantasy genre, it hits the right notes, with brisk pacing and mythic world building. I felt that it stayed comfortably within the conventions of fantasy, but I recommend it for fans of the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Fantasy with a Worldly Connect
A nice fantasy novel having humans, mythological characters lookalikes and epics melting into one and the good trying to win over the evil. Though there are dark characters, the journey through the book is very blissful and gives happy feeling. While book one is complete in itself, waiting to see how the plot evolves in book two, as seeds of evil have been sown in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elji Saga
Sci Fi is certainly not my normal read, but strangely thoroughly enjoyed. Colin's imagination, allied with his excellent use of vocabulary, ensure's this to be an interesting, thought provoking read.
It draws oneself into utilising one's own thought processes, allowing one to fully appreciate the ins and outs of the saga.
For me also, I can see connections with some of today's, how shall I say, conspiracy theorists, who believe, that our world, is in someway manipulated by major unseen forces, that influences / controls world politics and events.
Elji and the Galrass, is the first of a saga, that the principles will be involved in. Look forward to reading, how Colin developes and projects the characters, along the different timelines, within that saga.
Highly recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent storytelling with an enlightening undertow
I really enjoyed this book, not just for the character development, mental imagery, the engaging storyline but also because here is a book with a deeper meaning. Yes you can read this book as a fantasy novel, and it is a very pleasurable read to do so, the characters are strong, believable, there is a good plot which leads itself to further development, a sequel, a trilogy, who knows, but there is something much much more which the writer is trying to convey, something very much in tune with the way you may or may not choose to live your life, a deeper meaning of life and the universe itself.
An excellent read.

4.0 out of 5 stars My general thoughts on the first read through.
Some people might say my writing a review about a book because i know the author might be a bit partisan or 1 sided, i mean god forbid any one commit to comments that might include in-depth knowledge of the author or his quirky, funny but some what serious nature as you review their take on subject matter. I have to say though the book for a first time go and difficult and large subject matter had me one min wondering off to the edge of arakis to the mystical wastelands of the native americans dancing in a pyotah haze to twirling in a bizarre out of body experience as i threw my self into battles and flights magnificent long lost beasts.
I feel the book in general is a great read and has the user thinking about what hes reading , although i found my self sometimes re reading parts i had read to make sure i got the most out of a particular scene or convergence of ideas
that at first escaped me, this didn't take away anything i read or felt about the book. With this in mind i had one request that i already talked with Colin as i was reading the book and that was for me as a single person
with a wish list was a book that was more in-depth and bigger, Understanding time and author constraints of any endeavour as big as book i am satisfied in what i got and read. Waiting whole heatedly without spoiling any future plans for the next book which if i understand correctly is already gracing paper in part and form. Colin will vouch for the fact i pestered him for mnths for the book when it was almost ready hahahaha ow the laughs we had...
