I learned a long time ago that I would always be broken…

After being in the SEALs and losing my leg to an IED, I knew I would never be ok again. Even being on this ranch with my best friend, a brother in arms, hasn’t helped stop the demons that are constantly threatening to swallow me whole. I accept that this is my life. Just me and my rescue dog, Roxy. Then Emma shows up on my doorstep with my rifle, and I can’t help but invite her in. She’s not what I expect.

She has a way of making me forget that I’m missing a leg. She has a way of making me feel like the old me, the man I used to be before the war. When the chemistry between us starts to explode, I don’t know if I can trust myself with her, but one thing I do know—I’d be a fool to walk away.

I don’t believe in love at first sight. So, why can’t I stop thinking about him?

After spending time in the Army and now being a lead detective in the homicide division, I’ve seen some pretty messed up things, but the serial case I’m working is one of the worst. It would help if my mind could stop thinking about Clay Perry every damn second. Clearing him of the shooting at Tranquility Bay Ranch was a no brainer, but why can’t I get him out of my head? I keep dreaming about him, thinking about him in the shower. My whole body is craving the touch of a man that has yet to touch me.

Maybe I just need to get him out of my system and then I’ll be able to focus. Or will getting closer to him just distract me more? One thing I do know, I intend to get a taste of the ex-SEAL turned rancher, and I don’t mean to wait forever, either...
