RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥 The second half of this duet picks up where the first book left off: Cooper Sinclair has been brought to the hospital after a military operation went wrong. Rushing to his side is Carys Murphy, his stepsister and recently ex-girlfriend. She has finally realized that they were meant to be despite all odds, but it is now Cooper that seems hesitant to pursue their happily ever after. Just when I think that Bella Matthews broke me with the first book, she finishes the job with this read. The angst, the suspense, the spice - it all comes together nicely to wreck your soul. I love the roller-coaster-like pacing of the book. Matthews does a great job of balancing the adrenaline-inducing suspense with the slower moments of steam and angst. The slower moments still kept me engaged as we get more emotionally invested in Coop and Carys. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship as they address loose ends from the previous books together. Similar to Matthews' previous books, the ensemble cast adds more life and relatability to the story. Emerson, Rook, the Sinclairs, and the Murphys provide more depth to our main characters without taking away too much of the spotlight. Even though we are on the other side of the country from Kroydon Hills, I still love the stories that come from this book universe. This duet further cements this series as an instant TBR addition for me.

    This is book 2 of the Risks We Take Duet. It was beautiful, heartbreaking and emotional. The emotions both Cooper and Carys went through to get their happy ending was brutal but worth it.
    The text message banter with all the characters evened out the emotional roller-coaster the MCs were both facing. Loved this book and the ride it took me on.

    This is part two of the Cooper/Carys love story. There is really no reason for two books. Their story is just a long one.
    Cooper Sinclair was a talented football player in high school, but his dream was to join the Navy and become a SEAL.
    Carys Murphy is the youngest of the group, 2 years younger than Cooper. She has loved him since she was 15, 5 years ago.
    Cooper and Carys connect in San Diego, where he is stationed, and she attends college. Their love story is very rocky but fulfilling.
    The end of the first book is arbitrary. This book starts with the Ops gone wrong.
    Cooper has always been the most noble character in the 3 series. In contrast, his twin Natalie has become more spoiled, self-centered, and shrill in each book since she originally appeared. These 2 books show how spoiled she really is.
    Carys is also a noble character, if sometimes misguided. She tries to save Cooper from her health issues. Hopefully, Cooper will find relief from his own demons.
    I definitely recommend these books.

    I devoured this duet and loved every moment of it. And while I've enjoyed Bella Matthews's "stand alone" books, I have to admit, I loved this couple's story at least ten times more than the others I've read of hers. That's not to say I didn't love the others. But this one was so much more than an escape for a little while. This duet was amazing. I got a chance to actually fall for these characters, to feel their emotions with them, to really root for them, to love them as individuals and as a couple. While this is the only duet I've read by this author, I think her gift is in the longer stories. I laughed and cried with these characters in a way I haven't with some of the shorter books because the duet gave me time as a reader to truly get invested and to believe in their fight. Nothing was glossed over. They worked for their HEA.

    I am quite invested in Emerson (and Rook). I hope they each get a book or share a book (I don't see it in the info I looked at).

    This book is EVERYTHING you didn’t realize that you needed in your life. Bella brought her A game for Coop’s book that is for sure.

    I had so many questions with the ending of Changing the Game and there was some serious groveling that was needed by one of the characters because watching one of your favorites fall to their knees was freaking heartbreaking. Let’s be honest here, we got the answers we needed and they were just as heart wrenching as you would have expected. There was groveling, but I think it was the fact that both Cooper and Carys truly realized that life is just too short to not be with the one person that gave you the air you needed to breathe.

    Cooper, my man, has been through so much with his SEAL team and this last mission was especially difficult. He now has to overcome obstacles that he didn’t think he would need to and more so he has the need to protect those he loves. His family is everything to him, but so are his brothers on the team. The messages and jokes are still there with his best friends, and they are the balm to our soul we need to make the heavier stuff a little easier to get through.

    Carys has some big decisions to make but the fact remains that she is needed in California to help with her friend. Her goal was to always to learn to stand on her own two feet without her big brother and his friends being overprotective. She is forced to do just that, and she does stand tall. Doesn’t mean the knocks don’t keep hitting, just that she is finally owning up to what she truly wants and is fighting for it. We learn that life isn’t fair, but when the cards are stacked against you it is how you push through to become that much stronger. This is yet another amazing book by Bella and we get the most perfect ending to these two with glimpses of what might be ahead for all the others. Absolutely amazing read!

    This book is definitely an epic heartfelt conclusion to this duet.

    Wow when this book dropped I jumped right in ... I mean with that cliff hanger how could I not .

    Carys has come a looooonnnnnngggg way since book one. She now owns her feelings, who she is and who she wants to be. I am in awe at how brave, strong and resilient she is. I honestly feel like she has such a great story arc she has become an inspiration.

    Cooper well he has his whole world turned upside down and although sometimes he can come across as an alpha hole ... Okay yes that is hot too, I'm not going to lie. He is still our loving, protective, loyal, gorgeous Cooper who you cannot help but love and feel more for by the sentence.

    The supporting characters are just as amazing. The women are new level of strong, the men are just as protective and loyal...the old and the new combined into an amazing mix of perfection: of friendship, love and family.

    From the first page of this book my emotions ran wild. The ping pong back and forth over whether these two will make it is intense. The laughs are interspersed so that the heavy is broken up. The emotional scenes are sensitively put together yet so jarring and the anger I felt at times for the characters or at the charcaters, is so justified ...at least in my head haha... Also did I mention the steam? I mean seriously WOW... The emotions all just keep adding to the fire that was burning from Changing the Game and letting it build to an inferno.

    This is a beautiful, intense duet filled with heat, heart, intensity and soul.

    I don’t even know how to begin describing this duet other then saying it was everything I wanted for their love story and more.

    After that cliffhanger, I immediately started my theories and predicting what I thought what going to happen and why some characters had certain reactions.. boy was I wrong.

    Nothing could have prepared me for some ugly truths we were given at the beginning of the book along with some answers.

    Through their journey, Cooper and Carys truly prove that love conquers all. Let me tell you though… they didn’t get their happily ever after in an easy way.

    When I say these characters fought for what they wanted.. they truly fought and didn’t back down. I loved the character development between the books and they got to where they needed to be.

    The one thing that Bella is amazing at is finding the humor throughout tense situations. I like I did an equal amount of laughing and crying throughout this book.

    The scenes where she managed to get majority of her characters together was magical and the teasing/ribbing was everything I wanted.

    I have to point out Coach’s mic drop moment… Did I immediately message Bella and call her a genius.. I definitely did. Then proceeded to re read that scene at least 5 times and just sat back and appreciated this world that I have fallen completely in love with.

    If there is a duet that you need to read this year, it’s this one.

    A beautiful love story with a ton of trauma, heartache and moments that will have you swooning all over the place and simply just wanting more after it was wrapped up perfectly.
