I have no idea how to review this book actually. There were lots of topic in the book, it's hard to focus on just one, beside from the main relationship between Sir and Lisa. Lisa is a middle aged woman who has an unfunctional marriage with a cheating husband. They don't have anything in common but their two children maybe. In this marriage, Lisa finds the peace of her mind in social media, with the same minded people she's met there. And one day, she meets Sir. Sir is at the same position as Lisa. He is a prisoner in an unhappy marriage, hiding his true self and searching for happiness. "A marriage takes work. You have to constantly put energy into it to keep it from falling apart. Going nowhere takes energy. Stability isn't what you get when you do nothing. It's what you can hope to achieve when you work hard." Entropy has so many triggers for easily offended readers. There is cheating, cancer, death, a strange kind of polygamy (almost)...This book is really about entropy. When the things go well, something happens and turn the things into chaos. Entropy was like a prologue to the real story. The epilogue of the book made me curious for the next one, Duality. It took me so long to read this book because of "real life" obligations but, the good thing is no matter how many days you stay away from the book, when you turn back, you'll continue to read it without any problem. Mr Smith's writing style is so different, almost unique in a way. He is balancing the non-fiction with a fiction as telling the story. It may be a little slow for some readers but it's the essense of the book. You should really give this book a chance. It is more different than what's on the market recently and I enjoyed with this difference.

I read Entropy at the same time as a relationship I had, similar to the one between Lisa and Sir, exploded. There were moments where it seemed to be that Joshua Edward Smith was ghosting my biography but, separated from my own drama, Entropy remains excellent.
To get the basic praise out of the way, it's well written and well edited. I do a lot of editing for a living, both for newspapers and the odd book, and this is increasingly rare. I also have a working knowledge of quantum theory and the scientific parts about particles and anti-matter are succint and accurate. They're also briliantly woven into the story - an integral part of it, in fact - which deeply appeals to the nerd/geek side of me. It was very satisfying to read a book that uses these concepts as metaphors for relationahips rather than a hobbyhorse shoe-horned into the plot.
Smith is an excellent storyteller, too, which is something I admire. From Homer through Dickens to Stephen King, those are the tales we remember. It's an art too often scorned by the literary elite, for they do not have the talent themselves.
Getting to the story itself, what rocked my on first and second reading was how well he captured the complexity and intensity of an online D/s affair. My circumstances were similar to Lisa's - stuck in a loveless long-term relationship - though there were some significant differences such as that I had dabbled in the BDSM world before. What I couldn't get over, however, was how well Smith described the inner conflict of getting to know - and then falling in love with - someone you've never actually met. And the sheer hopelessness of knowing that the person you love and who loves you is simply unattainable.
I also had my walls torn down and am utterly bereft without him. I've spoken to friends, to shrinks, to strangers on the net and Entropy is the only time I've come across someone who actually understands that it is more than a little affair that's gone wrong (get over it, woman), but something life-changing that is impossible to forget. To submit totally to my Dom was something that surprised me more than anyone can imagine. I don't want another Dom, I want him. I'm old enough and bright enough to know that this was something - this quantum entanglement, as Smith put it - I've never had before and never will again.
Entropy is erotic, but not Erotica - a label its subject matter is likely to attract. It's much more than a little thrill and a bit of kink. It's a bloody good book and a rare insight into what attracts women to the submissive side. My sincere congratulations to Smith.

I would like to make a point to say that the book arrived 2 days ahead of schedule, which was more than appreciated. The book itself was in pristine, new condition, not a mark on it. The book is a beautiful shade of eggshell with vibrantly colored flowers adorning the cover. The overall appearance is quite exquisite.
Before I begin, I have zero experience in the world of BDSM in any sense of the word. Although there is a ribbon of this throughout the story, it is not the story. Lisa is a woman in her prime, has a stable marriage (albeit loveless), 2 adult children, and enjoys the lifestyle of significant means, at least by my middle-class comparison. Lisa, like so many millions of others, goes through the motions and routines of life to which she has been accustomed to over the years, becoming listless and disconnected in her relationship with her husband. A lot of her daily routine also includes indulging her spare time in various forms of social media, including Twitter as a means of escape. It’s here that she encounters another ‘voice in the online wilderness’ - a DM (Direct Message) from a married man who only identifies himself as “Sir”. She begins to have a connection with him that starts out as a friendly conversation, eventually becoming her saving grace and a key figure in her sexual re-awakening. The idea or element of control, I found, was a particularly prevalent theme and not just with the BDSM dynamic throughout the story, but deals with the controls, boundaries and mental walls we create in our everyday life and the resulting roadblocks to truly experiencing happiness. There has always been a negative connotation with the word “control” usually pertaining to those who seem to lack it or by those who mean to use it for abusive purposes. Control, in this case, has more to do with letting go, and letting yourself grow emotionally and experience all that life has to offer.
As Lisa’s story unravels to the reader, she experiences a multitude of events that force her to make choices she didn’t even consider before. She starts to allow herself to hand over the reins to someone who can release her to experience a level of emotional and sexual satisfaction she’s never before encountered.
Overall, I felt that this is a well-written story with a generous mix of anxiety, trepidation, laughter, tears, and the constant struggle of a woman not finding herself, but coming to grips with everything about her that has always been just under the surface and is now being brought to light. The story is about love: Loving yourself and letting go and allowing someone else to love you just as much.

I've probably read over a thousand romances in my lifetime, and this is unlike anything I've ever read. I tend to shy away from self-published books because they're usually full of typos and the writing isn't really up to par. I'm so glad I took a chance on this innovative erotic romance.

    • The writing style was effortless, engaging, and amusing. The characters are in an online romance, so I was worried there wouldn't be a real "connection." Instead, I found it very refreshing to read about their growing feelings through their back-and-forth chats and the heroine's inner thoughts, without any of the same old tired loves scenes and plot points. In most romances, the characters fight their growing feelings even though there's really no realistic conflict to keep them apart and finally give in to a kiss on page 56. They have sex on page 126. Then on page 148 (usually while her hair is still wet from their first post-sex shower), she finds a sugar packet on the kitchen floor, revealing that the hero is the reason her Daddy lost his sugar beet plantation, etc, etc. In this book, the conflicts are real and familiar, especially to anybody who's ever had an online flirtation.

    • I don't want to spoil the love scenes, but the author manages to use a very clever point of view device to bring the two characters together and show their intimacy growing. They are very, very hot. Plan accordingly.

    • The plot manages to introduce BDSM and not make it icky. Sorry to sound like a two year old about it, but it's just really not my thing, so I was amazed that I not only finished the novel with a more compassionate, liberated view on people who are into the BDSM lifestyle, I actually felt like I "got" it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jump right in!

The author doesn't jump, but more so swan dives into this story. I've read your standard romance novels (which this certainly is not) and other books with some boarder line BDSM smuttiness, but this novel is more. Much more...interesting.

Joshua Edward Smith really just throws you into the main character's life. I was able to envision what she looked like, her family, friends and lifestyle. All of this done without pages and pages of tedious description. The description was left for the juicy parts...which happen to be evenly spread throughout the story.

I won't lie and say it doesn't have romance, because I feel it does. The chemistry between the two main characters is real, fierce and lovable. The male main is intelligent, coy, dominant and actually adorable. It's a lust/love story relevant for our time in the present. There are no shirtless men riding horses with their maiden on the back, her bosom bouncing with each gallop of the hooves. None of that. What you will find is good writing, good characters and a whole lot of sexy. Descriptive, erotic, sexy at that.

I'd love to give you more, but I will tell you everything! In saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book right down to the look of the cover. I can't wait for a sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars I got infected...
Reviewed in Germany on June 8, 2017
I’ve really enjoyed reading this book, though I am neither in the BDSM-scene, nor can relate to being a submissive. So it took me quite some time to get into the book but then I liked the writing style a lot. And in fact now and then it hit pretty close to home. I love the additional information that is wrapped into the book, like for example “Quantum Entanglement”.

Some of the characters annoyed me a lot, in particular Lisa. Which is somehow good, because her character is very well written - in my opinion she’s someone you can relate to a lot one second and the next second not at all and then you just want to slap her head. But that makes it somehow interesting (for me) and I started thinking quite a few times how I would react in this or that situation.

I’ll definitely dig deeper into the series now that I got curious!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Social Media with a Tryst"
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 7, 2016
How many of us have ethereal friends living just behind our Liquid Crystal Display that physically exist both in our mind and deep within our heart? Unimaginable to our ancestors. Yet there is no denying that even I am one of the many social media users to have had my virginal Liquid Crystal popped while sharing a byte or two. This review as well as Mr. Smith's 'Entropy' is for those of us that have indulged in just such a digital dalliance as well as those that wonder what it would be like to experience something so delightfully interactive. The author has done quite extensive research in an effort to fill out the experiences both mentally and physically of his leading character as well as her corporeal and ethereal partners. Not simply a flirtation, Mr. Smith addresses this prime-time issue thoroughly and takes it across a few borders that we have all wondered about. Told through a palpable sexual haze, an almost 50 years young and beautiful Lisa maneuvers through marriage, children, husband, illness and all that real-life throws at you while clinging to a thread of self and sanity via a consistent flow of text from an intelligent, intoxicating and excruciatingly untouchable hand. Lisa is set on a course of self discovery that leaves her shocked and much more aware of the shadowed corners of human nature, and I must admit that some of this discovery left me shocked and much more aware of my contentment to wallow in the brightly lit areas! Nonetheless, this book will draw you in and make you think. Sex is in the mind.. that is to say that nothing works unless the brain is involved and we are all nothing more than large children that have learned with time when, how and with whom to summon a façade when necessary. Suffice it to say that in my opinion you will truly enjoy this book even though there are points at which you would give your right nipple ring to slap Lisa with the serrated edge of your chastity belt for some of the things she puts up with! But.. perhaps that simply makes it even more interesting, hehe.

Thank you, Mr. Smith, for my download and the pleasure it brought me!
