Eyes of Tomorrow (Duchy of Terra Book 9) Kindle Edition
Fleets summoned by oaths old and new alike.
A rising tide of war that may consume the galaxy!
Captain Morgan Casimir’s mission to stop a war has ended in a nightmare. In the heart of an ignored nebula, trapped behind a ring of newborn stars, she has awoken a creature of another time: the horde of biological starships who call themselves the Infinite.
Fifty thousand years ago, the Infinite drove the galaxy’s Alavan Precursors to a grave mistake that destroyed all that was. Unleashed once more by the very people Morgan Casimir sought to stop, the Infinite now threaten an entirely new era. The only thing standing in their way is a fragile alliance of old enemies, determined to keep them contained in the Astoroko Nebula.
But when that ancient prison fails, the galaxy must stand together—or watch the beginning of a golden age dissolve into apocalypse…

- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021Author adele it clear this was to be the end of the Duchy series. About the first half of the series is about Annette Bond and the Alien invasion she is a key player in. Lots of super science, galactic hierarchies (Earth pretty much cannon fodder at the bottom). The second (sort of) half digs deep into the issue and nature of the Precursor civilization that died 50 millennia ago, taking down the whole of Galactic civilization, and altering the physics of the Universe. (Spoiler alert- details coming). We see Bond, then her daughter encounter ever more vast concepts associated with these Precursors, in interactions with the Mershom, the Precursor's direct descendants (and former slaves - the Precursors actually enslaved everyone!). And more, in a invasion of a current slaver race offshoot using Precursor tech to wage interstellar war. Then after that war, we're more ad more of the Precursors, absolutely mind boggling. This last volume pulls it all together, with another war to the knife. The solution leaves loose ends, but...
I had some trouble with the SciFi physics, even to the point where at one point wondering if the 'universal change' made this universe really different from ours. But this, as all the previous stories in this series, delightfully written, excellently crafted, paced, plotted. Stewart is one of the best hard SF writers out there. I have yet to consider any of his material less than top flight.
Highly Recommended. Blame Amazon for typos here. Virtually impossible to edit a real review through a 5-line non-scrolling window.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2021Hello! I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is the last book in the Annette Bond/Morgan Casmir series. We don't really see Annette at all in this book, but since I love Morgan, that wasn't too huge of a letdown, though it would have been nice to see her a little more since this is the end of the series...
As always, Glynn's writing is fantastic. Smooth and coherent, and he paints scenes wonderfully.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because it felt like the story was...bumpy, then wrapped up quickly. I had a lot less emotional connection with the characters from this book than I did with the previous 8 books.
All in all it's a decent end, and it won't leave you necessarily wishing for a different outcome (or for more). I do recommend this entire series. And I especially recommend this author! Not just because I get to read his books for free before they come out (but that is AWESOME for me, lol!), but because of how well he writes and how many books he gives us... you never have to wait too long for more!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021Eyes of Tomorrow is the final book in a 9 book series that neatly ties together several threads that ran through the series. Who really are the 'Ones Who Came Before' - why did they 'break the laws of physics and forever alter the galaxy', "What is the source of the biotech that enabled rogue Kanzi ' and most importantly - 'Who and what are the Infinite"
The central protagonist of the last book is Morgan Casmir -a naval officer, and step-daughter to the Duchess of Terra Anette Bond - the woman who arguably set in motion many of the events underlying the series. Eyes of Tomorrow is a complex inter-woven plot and reading the preceding novels is almost a requirement in order to fully understand the story.
Once again Glynn Stewart mixes space opera with compelling characters and well established, fast paced plots that entertain and make the reader think. A very strong recommended read - the entire series is a treasure. One can only hope that at some point Mr. Stewart revisits the intricate galaxy he has created in the Duchy of Terra series. It would be an interesting place to visit and to see how the core powers, the 'arm' powers and the "Infinite' are getting along - and what ever did happen the the Elder Race - or as one character put it 'fuzzy caterpillar space elves'
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021Sadly, the Duchy of Terra series comes to a end. This has been a favorite series with great characters, very engaging challenges, intriguing tech, lots of political intrigue, and plenty of unexpected twists and turns set in a very imaginative universe.
Eyes of Tomorrow is a fitting finale to this wonderful series. Morgan and Rin utilize their strengths and knowledge to overcome the challenges of getting the Laians and Wendira to cooperate with the Imperium against a common foe, the Infinite. There is plenty of action, twists and turns as the Alliance tries to do something the Alava failed to do - defeat the Infinite.
The Infinite learn and adapt far faster than anyone imagined, deploying weapons and capabilities the Alliance never thought possible and are totally unprepared for. In response, the Alliance takes a page from the Taljzi war book, but will it be enough?
A really good read, bringing to an end a favorite series and universe.
I received an ARC for my review. I purchased my own copy to support the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I really enjoyed the book and devoured it in only a few days, as I do all the books I read from Mr Stewart. The universe, the people, the races and the stony but uphill path for humanity are awe inspiring. I‘m sad to see the saga end as I was hoping to see, not if, but how and when humanity (and the imperium) were going to equal the core powers and even showing the Mesharom a trick or two. I will be waiting for a possible tenth book, as the number is more pleasing, don‘t you think ;-) Great job Mr Stewart. Please do continue to regale us with your stories. I‘m looking forward to reading a lot more from you and catching up on the series I haven‘t had a chance to read yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic
Grandiose finale for a set of books that were increasingly grandiose. Facing impossible odds, it's almosta miracle that Morgan beat those odds.
Obviously, I strongly recommend the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars That's a wrap, and what a wrap it was!
So many space opera series have trouble finding an ending, the more epic a scale the more threads to unravel.
Glynn succeeded masterfully in a satisfying and heartfelt conclusion to the Duchy saga - ending in the same spirit that it started with. Hope. Hope for a better future.

Un libro che si legge piacevolmente tutto di un fiato e che ti dona una bella prospettiva sul genere Space Opera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad but good end to the series
An incredible end to the series, though at the same time it's open for more. You could argue that the ending came to quickly, yet at the same time it's a great way to end it, especially as their ancient enemies are long dead, buried and mostly turned to ash. I want more purely because how much I enjoyed the entire series, even if not part of the main series, perhaps a story about how the Mesharom interact with the Infinite with the Mesharoms history with the Alava, or dive into more detail about the Infinite working together and coexisting with the various races of the galaxy. That's another story or two hopefully.
