    Zoe Prime is an interesting character and one that is evolving as the series moves along. To really appreciate this character, it is best to read the books in order.
    Zoe has a unusual disorder/gift-- she sees the world around her in numbers. She has spent her lifetime hiding this ability during in part to a tormented childhood. But thanks to 3 individuals: her mentor, her therapist, and her partner, Zoe is beginning to feel like she has a chance for a more normal life. The numbers are under control and she is in a promising relationship. But then a new case draws her back into the past and a serial killer brings her more heartache than she ever expected.
    This was a sad and difficult episode in the Zoe Prime universe. It makes me wonder what is next for this interesting character. This is definitely a series that is full of surprises.

    I read this book in a single sitting and am still shocked at the enormous twists Blake Pierce has put into this book. I love Zoe, this character is absolutely unique. She has a talent (or perhaps a curse)- she sees numbers and patterns everywhere. While it helps her as an FBI agent, it tortures her and keeps her apart from other people. When she meets someone she instantly knows how tall they are, what they weigh, the symmetry of their face, their shoe size, every little thing about them.When she walks into a room she knows exactly how many magazines are on the table, how many bottles, glasses there are in a cupboard- the numbers haunt her. Her childhood haunts her, with an abusive mother who tried to beat the numbers out of her. It has taken a therapist to help her control it so she can start to live a more normal life and Zoe is beginning to have friends and even starting a relationship with John.
    Then she and her partner Shelley need to travel back to Zoe's home town area for a case. She confronts her family and then concentrates on solving a series of horrific murders of young women.
    There are huge twists in the book- one of which had me so emotionally shocked, I had to stop reading for a few minutes just to pull myself together. I read the rest as fast as I could. It is not a real spoiler to say Zoe solves the case, but at tremendous personal cost, and not without another incredible twist.
    This is a book that will stay with you for a long time.
    Fans of this series will be unhappy to know the next book won't be out for six months. But it will be worth waiting for. Thank you Blake Pierce for an incredible book that shocked the hell out of me!

    Zoe's life seems to be reaching normalcy as she has discovered in Shelley a great partner and a friend. But going back to a city very near to where she was from, in Nebraska, unveils open wounds and breaks open new ones. This story is action packed and has a surprising ending. Zoe is left alone, broken hearted and empty. Hopefully in the next book her personal history will be moving upwards again.
    This is a great thriller, entertaining and easy to ready (in spite of the gruesome crimes!).

    I typically don't read books in a series until I have read the first book. Because I received an advance review copy, I chose to read Face of Madness without reading the first three books. It's true that this book can be stand-alone, however, I did feel like I was missing a lot about who Zoe is.

    Zoe is a complex character with flaws, unique struggles, and the desire to be more. She's aware that she can change and improve, and I really liked that about her. While I didn't truly understand the special talent she has, I knew enough to follow along and not question it.

    I would have liked to have known more about Zoe's relationship with her partner. It sounded like it took quite a bit of time for the two women to form a strong connection and to trust one another. It was nice to see them balancing each other's strengths and trying to see things through a different lens. Again, there was enough for me to understand it, but it felt like just a taste.

    The plot of Face of Madness is pretty standard: serial killer on the loose, FBI is brought in to investigate, some kind of personal connection to the situation. All of that is on par with typical mystery/detective books. What's unique about this plot is Zoe's past and how it connects to this case. I would have liked a bit more follow-through with this at the end when Zoe leaves to go back home. Her backstory felt a little lost in the end because the focus was on the central murder plot.

    Overall, I found this to be an easy read with strong female characters and a solid story. I would recommend reading the other three books first to gain more insight into Zoe and her abilities. It might make the storylines in Face of Madness feel more impactful.

    I love Zoe. She has an awesome talent that the world should know about. Just as she starts to let her guard down an have friends and an actual boyfriend, her life, career, and everything she's started to care about is in jeopardy of falling apart. I wasn't expecting the twist Blake put in this one an I feel defeated. I hope Zoe can pull it together before its too late.

    I love the Zoe Prime series. But this one pulled the proverbial rug out from underneath me. The hunt, the plot twists, the ending... Blake’s writing always leaves you wanting more. But I am now desperately waiting for January 2021! Brilliant!

    This was a well written thriller. However, I didn't really connect with the characters. There wasn't much to relate with.

    Zoe's ability to see everything in numbers wasn't a special power that made much sense other to explain her difficulties connecting with others. It didn't really offer any special capabilities to aid her in her job as FBI agent.

    I'm not a huge fan of this genre so perhaps it colors my perspective.

    This whole series has been addictive but also disturbing on a lot of levels not ready to read the next one until I get over what happened in this 4th installment in the difficult life of Zoe the main character.

    just read this series again and bought the last 2 books excellent series overall although is did take me years to get over this book glad I did not miss out in the 2 really great stories
