Feast of Sparks (Thornchapel Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,553 ratings

I’m an outcast and a loner, named for death itself. Fate wasn’t supposed to have plans for me.

But then she came back—the girl I once kissed in a thorn-covered chapel in the woods. She came back, and I could no more resist her than I could pry out my own heart. And by some trick of fate, she wants me as much as I want her. The only problem? She also wants the man who owns Thornchapel, Auden Guest.

And so do I.

Eight years ago, I did something to Auden, something terrible. He hurt me back the only way he knew how, and so here we are: our hatred seasoned with pain and my loneliness seasoned with longing. The only thing we can agree on is Proserpina Markham, and she wants us to find a way to be together—all three of us.

If Auden wants to earn her as his submissive, then he has to earn me as well.

But with the discovery of bones behind the altar and the carnal revel of Beltane fast approaching, it’s becoming clear that Thornchapel’s secrets are much deeper and older than any of us could have ever guessed. And no matter how bright and merry a feast of sparks may be, it’s always followed by ashes.

And darkness.

Feast of Sparks is Book Two in the Thornchapel series.

Well, hello, St. Sebastian Martinez.
4 out of 5 stars
Well, hello, St. Sebastian Martinez.
4⭐️ 5🌶 Feast of Sparks centers St. Sebastian, including his history with Auden, his childhood and experiences with his family, and his current-POV. I was so looking forward to getting to know him better and this book did not disappoint. Broody, magnetic, and heartfelt, St. Sebastian is both drama and calm. His presence brings out both in the group, especially in Auden and Proserpina, and it's fun to experience how they rile each other up. Thornchapel gets much more erotic in this second installment and I loved the way the intimacy was captured between each of the characters, whether it was a 1:1 or a group scene. Not only do we switch POVs, we also switch narratives between first and third person, depending on the scene. It was a bit jarring at first, but once I got used to it, I felt like it added a neat, gauzy layer to the storytelling, and it was perfect for the vibes. (and HELLO, Father Becket) There's a lot of drama, quite a bit of friend/family history, and it's all over-the-top. Second chances and multiple love interests usually are. And I just couldn't put this down. And that ENDING!! Of course I have to find out what happens next.

Once again, I am completely blown away by Sierra Simone's epic writing and extraordinary story-telling. Feast of Sparks is just as delicious as the first installment in the Thornchapel series -- with just as many twists, just as many heart-pounding moments, and just as much mystery leading into the next book. I am HOOKED!

I must admit, I had never read a TRUE erotic book before I read A Lesson in Thorns. Sure, I've read romance with some super steamy scenes, but this was on another level. And perhaps what makes this the BEST way to start reading erotica is that with the mystery of Thornchapel and the magic of the rituals these six friends engage in, there is something... PRIMAL about the sex in these books. It's more than just part of the story, it's the HEART of the story. And it's absolutely intoxicating.

I am still head over heels for all the characters. Auden, the broody prince. St. Sebastian, the sad poor boy. And my new obsession? Becket, the handsome, sweet priest who has a bad side that I can't get enough of. These boys have me completely under their spells.

The leading ladies of the Thornchapel series are also addicting, especially our little Prosperina. I love how honest she is with her flaws, how much she owns and embraces her past as well as her present, and with no shame for what she may become in the future. It's something I envy, really, and if anything, Prosperina's character leaves me wanting to invest in myself more than I already do.

The last chapter of this book had my heart in my throat. JUST when everything seemed okay, seemed happy and promising, of course, Sierra drops a bomb in our lap -- one I feared would come but hoped TERRIBLY that I was wrong.

I cannot wait to see what unfolds in the next installment. I'm counting down the days. Bravo, Simone. You're an evil little kinky genius and I adore you!

“We’ll never get close enough until we’re crawling inside of each other, and even then there will be no squeeze too hard, no thrust too deep, no tears too scalding, because nothing will be enough until we’re twined tighter than the thorns around the chapel. So tight that God himself couldn’t pry us apart.” - Feast of Sparks.

REVIEW: This is the second book in the Thornchapel series and I enjoyed it. As you can tell by the synopsis, it is A LOT. While I liked this book, I still think I preferred the first one. I think this is because the first one had a lot more plot to it and this book does have a fair amount of plot, but it also has so many, long sex scenes. Some of the sex scenes were so long that I was over it by the time that they ended. I also thought that the plot in this book took some weird turns that I didn’t care for, although I am waiting to see how this will play out in the next book, which I will definitely read. Overall, this book took us further into the Thornchapel world, answered many questions, but also posed new mysteries.

The characters once again were great. In this book we are primarily reading from St. Sebastian and Proserpina’s perspectives. So we really get to dive deeper into St. Sebastian’s character and get to know his back story. I like that the author does this, because there are six main characters. So there is a lot of history, personalities, and emotions that go along with that. We also get a little from Auden’s perspective as well. Being the second book of four, it is hard to say where this is all going to end up, and what growth the characters will go through.

Overall, if the first book was a bit much for you, then this one will definitely be too much. As mentioned, there are several sex scenes including BDSM and group-sex as well as complicated polyamorous relationships, and sex in a Catholic Church. Also, there are some dark rituals along the way. It is a ride for sure. Despite some of the authors choices, I still think it is a fun, sexy, and interesting read, so I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out.

This book should come with a warning: May cause spontaneous pregnancy. This book is incendiary and will literally burn you from the inside out. I had to take several breaks while reading this to get myself together. Sierra is a master at erotica her prose cannot be matched. I loved every minute of this book and cannot wait for the next installment.

“If I could rearrange the world for you, I would,” he says. “I’d rearrange everything.”

This story bounces around between the past and the present. It brings to light more of Auden and Saint’s past and helps answer many of the questions from the first story. But with every question that seemed to be answered more were unearthed. The relationship between Auden and Saint is slowly stripped layer by layer, I loved watching Auden and Saints story seeing how they fell in love and the paths that they took. Sierra takes you on a hedonistic journey that will take you to the brink.

“Keep me any way you want, I want to tell him. Just so long as you keep me close.”

This world that Sierra has created is utterly addicting. Each of these characters and their complexity keeps you enthralled and gasping for more. The depths with which Sierra has taken this story is beyond anything you can imagine and takes a hold of you from the first page and refuses to let go. The cliff hanger on this book literally left my mouth agape. I furiously went back and forth on the last few pages hoping I missed something and there was more. Alas, there is not, and it is a whopper of a hanger, so be prepared to be in a massive book hangover until we get A Harvest of Sighs. This book should not be missed. Read it you will not be disappointed.

“I want more than lasting. I want endless. I want forever. And I’m going to earn it, no matter what you ask of me.”

... and keep you safe from everything else while you feel it.

This book... gosh it is captivating and otherworldly and intellectual and so very beautiful. Saint Sebastian takes the reins in this one and we learn more about his past with Auden and understand a bit more about why he is how he is. We also see more from the rest of our Thornchapel crew and while we might get more questions than we do answers, I am here and ready for everything!! Love love love this series.

I have no adequate words to describe what I just survived after reading Feast of Sparks. It proves a little tricky when trying to write a review, but here goes…
Sierra Simone is the ultimate when it comes to penning a book. Feast of Sparks is no exception.
Her grasp on the visual landscape, her characters, the ebb and flow of the storyline is epic. The author pulls you in from the first printed sentence and keeps you within her grasp until the very end.
Without giving too much away, the connection between all the characters, not just the main ones, is something she does so well. You’re drawn into their emotional state, get lost in the heart-warming bond they have with one another, and left feeling like you’re living their adventures right along with them. It’s beautiful to witness.
Read A Lesson in Thorns first and then dive into this one. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
