England, 1815

Lord Robert Forster hopes to meet his match—on the chessboard. He jumps at the chance to cross rooks with the renowned Sicilian widow Contessa Electra Falzone. However, the lovely foreigner's bold opening gambit raises concerns about her politics when she finds her way into his bedchamber, not with seduction in mind, but to steal state secrets.

Electra Falzone has always avoided scandalous liaisons, until blackmail forces her to turn thief and risk her reputation in the arms of the handsome Lord Robert. If her manipulators were threatening only her, she would confess all to her fellow strategist. But given who will suffer if she fails, she can't afford to take that risk.

Drawn to the exotic contessa, Rob won't allow her to be used as a pawn by an unscrupulous schemer. All that remains now is for him to finesse her opening gambit…

Another lovely book in the awesome Forsters series, Finessing the Contessa was absolutely wonderful. The romance was sweet, the thrills were constant, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Electra hasn't had the easiest time and, to make it worse, now she's being blackmailed into turning spy and stealing secrets. But, she handled it all and proved how strong she really was. She was intensely loyal to her loved ones and she would do anything to protect them. I really liked her. I thought she was a great character.

Rob was SO sweet. Like Electra, he was very loyal to his loved ones and, when that grew to include Electra, nothing was going to stop him from keeping her safe. He was very strong, clever, and sweet. I just adored him.

The romance was lovely. Electra and Rob were really sweet together. Their feelings developed slowly and it was sweet to see. And, I appreciate that neither of them was in denial about it. They both admitted it and that allowed their relationship to develop. And, there was definitely chemistry between them, right from the moment they met. There was some steaminess going on there. I thought these two were perfect together.

The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. All the action and mystery was thrilling. The whole issue of Electra's father-in-law and Rob's stepmother and the Forsters's old foe and how they were all connected was brilliantly done and had me riveted. I really enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was brilliant. I can't wait to see more of the Forsters!

Finessing the Contessa was a fantastic historical romance. I really enjoyed reading this fabulous book. Lovers of romance, you have to read this.

The Fosters series has been a joy to read. This book tells the story of chess master Lord Rob and he loves chess. His brother, the Marquees, wife Leah is about to give birth so he asked Rob to go to Lord Bellingham's chess party and delivery a important "government" report to Mr. Turner from Whitehall. On the way there he sees a mysterious and beautiful Italian woman who is being harassed by a evil looking man. What is learns is this woman is suppose to break into his and steal the report. The mysterious woman is the Italian chess master, the Contessa Electra(I just love that name). Electra creeps onto Rob's room at the Inn but he acts asleep until she gets close to him and he pulls him on top of him and kisses her. That begins this crazy adventure and intrigue. Electra is really being blackmailed by her father-in-law and his evil partner, the evil Maynard. They have her brother Vincenzo and ne will be released when she gives the report to Maynard. She has lost her husband and son and Vincenzo is her only family. She is caught in Rob's room again at the chess house party and tells him everything. Rob can't believe she is a traitor to her country of Sicily or England and he makes a plan with his brother to help her. Rob wants her but doesn't want her to think he is using her. They get her brother back and then they take a crazy ride to France because Electra discovers her son, Augusto is alive. On the way there Rob let his hair down and spanks, kisses, caresses and makes love to Electra. Will they love survive France? Will the Foster's evil step-mother ever learn not go against them? Will they get her son back? I really enjoyed this books twists and turns. I give this book 4 fingers up and 8 toes.

A very interesting storyline. I have to say kept me interested
I can see the rafters playing out their role.
I do believe the way the women are manipulated in this story to be a in other cult women are often under control by heir husband or their mother in law, or brothers in law.
A very different storyline to some I've read book's.
I found it to be worth ***** 5stars.

Enjoyed this story, had excitement in it and a lot of mystery in the tale, don't think the steamy side was needed but authors think this is what sells books.
