BIO - George Wallace
Born and raised in Eastern Ohio, Commander Wallace received his commission in the US Navy and a degree in engineering from The Ohio State University. After the obligatory and memorable interview with Admiral Rickover, he was accepted into the nuclear power and submarine communities. He served on two of Admiral Rickover’s famous “Forty One for Freedom”, the USS John Adams SSBN 620 and the USS Woodrow Wilson SSBN 624, during which time he made nine one-hundred-day deterrent patrols through the height of the Cold War.
Commander Wallace served as Executive Officer on the Sturgeon class nuclear attack submarine Spadefish. Spadefish and all her sisters were decommissioned during the downsizing that occurred in the 1990′s. The passing of that great ship served as the inspiration for “Final Bearing.”
Commander Wallace then commanded the Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine USS Houston SSN 713 from February 1990 to August 1992. During this tour of duty he worked extensively with the SEAL community developing SEAL/submarine tactics. Under his command, the Houston was awarded the CIA Meritorious Unit Citation.
Commander George Wallace retired to the civilian business world in 1995, after twenty-two years of service on nuclear submarines.
Commander Wallace lives with his wife, Penny, in Alexandria, Virginia

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story line and fast but clear action. Details enlightened the technologies.
I liked how the mini slots merged and now the players were introduced. The science and technology, that I wits completely ignorant of, were explained well.enough for even someone like be would understand. I was surprised how quickly all came together at the conclusion.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2020I have now read 3 of the books and my overall response is positive. the 1st book introduces the characters and backstories which is understandable and at the same time the stories (books) move along with the same cast of characters doing their parts to keep us all safe from the ’bad guys’. The 3rd book about Cuba I felt was filled with stereotypical, almost comically so, characters of Latin American origin. I do prefer writings that pit professionals against one another. As a Navy brat I do appreciate the stories of bases around the world, many of which I spent my childhood while my father sailed away for months at a time.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024Final Bearing (The Hunter Killer Series Book 1) my first read from authors George Wallace & Don Keith. Reminiscent of the best works of Tom Clancy and Andrew Watts, an incredibly ,well-developed, well-written book. The primary characters are well developed. A captivating, page-turning, well-written read. A must-read book! “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. Dangerous Grounds: The Hunter Killer Series, Book 2 is next on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2024These tales are absorbing adventures set on submarines. I have several of them. Recently I picked one up and read for an hour or so before it registered that I had read it before; they are that shallow. What bugs me most about "Final Bearing," though, is the incompetent editing in some places. Couldn't they afford to let someone who knows Spanish give it a run-through? Then they wouldn't have the flunkies calling their boss "El Jefe," such as answering "sí, El Jefe," when nobody would say that in Spanish. It would be "Sí, mi Jefe," or "Sí, Jefe." Even worse was the middle-school level error of "buenas días." It should be "buenos."
And it is appalling to read in a supposedly professionally written book that a boat in a harbor was "peddling along." Doesn't the author even know the difference between the verbs "peddle" and "pedal"?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2024I had a very tough time.putting down this story. It took a while to sync up all the various storylines. A.masterful tale with all.the high and low tech.weapon thrown into the mix. I will definitely read more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting but Scary Plot
Thoroughly enjoyable plot that also highlighted the dangers faced by the armed forces and law agencies in peacetime. If I have one criticism its that on the submarine some of the info was a bit technical(not to mention really scary) but I would rather this that a skimming overview of overworked and outdated nuclear power propulsion. Well deserved plaudits to the authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Final Bearing
A great yarn, liked the way the story line moved between the 5 main groups keeping the interest level high.
The little repeat of the beginning at the end bought home how hard it is to get on top of the drug trade, after all the hard work put in by the various groups life still goes on.
Presentation of the various technical aspects was done in a easy way to follow & understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Their talent shone through!
Wallace and Kieth. Final Bearing (200120) Three stories running at once, it seemed, but eventually they were coordinated to provide essential background to an interesting start to this book. At 54%, some of it has been hard going and in spite of the super action at this point, this reader is having a little trouble keeping up with all the various characters, in all three stories, which are indeed linked but splash at the continuity, especially as far as the seagoing aspect is concerned. Big difficulties, at times, sorting out which story I am in. So many characters, so many names, so many situations, eventually one gets there but it seems clear that there are different authors contributing to the tale, perhaps not quite knitting into each other’s contributions. It is still pretty riveting but tiresome waiting for it to clear itself for us 'less-in intelligent' brings! The swap from one tale , in a different but associate issue, but outside the present theme, makes for confusion in this reader. Still struggling with this 'miss match' of stories, always interesting and sometimes thrilling but often suddenly interposed into the then current theme, which, is to say-at the least, monetarily confusing. I liked the 'stories' but wish they had been more 'connected or linked immediately' into the main theme. It was, in the end, a tidy affair and I DID enjoy the read.
