Five Fake Dates Kindle Edition

Adam
I've got it bad for my best friend, but he's only had eyes for my sister since we were kids. I don't know what I'll do if they hook up -- especially after a drunken kiss West doesn't seem to remember. Seeing them together just might kill me, so why I offer to help him hone his dating skills, I'll never know. FML.

West
Ever since a drunken kiss we haven't talked about, I've been seeing Adam in a new light. Trouble is, he thinks I want his sister. This whole bisexual awakening thing is scary, and I don't want to risk our friendship by moving too fast. But when Adam mocks my dating skills, I come up with a genius plan: Five Fake Dates. Adam thinks he's helping me, and I get to test the waters without risking our friendship. Win-win!

A few fake dates, increasingly real kisses, and a tiny deception between friends. What could go wrong?

Five Fake Dates was originally written for a promotional giveaway to fans. It has been expanded to approximately 27,000 words and now has a little more spice and a bonus epilogue with HEA!

I have a love/hate relationship with novellas. I love them but I always want more. And in this case I really, really wanted more. It was the sweetest, sexiest, novella. I wish there was more of it. It was perfect.

Adam and West have been BFFs since childhood. Adam is gay, West straight. But they've been college roommates and secretly hiding their secret crushes for one another. Adam has always felt more for West, while West struggles to sort out his growing feelings for Adam and his increasing aversion to women.

As they head home for summer break, Adam suggests that they have have five "fake" dates so West will be able to court Adam's sister, Hannah, with confidence and more experience.

But what actually happens is a start of the duo's snarky romcom-esk relationship. Full of "firsts", this enjoyable novella sets the tone for the series. The world building is limited, the main characters suitably both doubting and hormonal, and the humor is wittily both snarky and loving.

But what is to become of Adam and West after they graduate? West has already secured a teaching position in his home town, but Adam has not landed a job as yet. As they head back to their home town and their parent's houses, what does the future have in store for them? To discover the answers, read this heartwarming quick read!

Sweet little friends-to-lovers story featuring two lifelong best friends. West has crushed on Adam’s big sister since they were kids, which is painful for Adam since he’s crushing on West. A drunken kiss during Spin the Bottle has West’s head spinning and he devised a plan to “fake date” Adam so that he can practice for dating Hannah. But of course the ruse is quickly discovered and then these two guys have to navigate their real feelings.

The characters and story were cute, but the whole thing felt slight. Not much conflict, not much introspection, and the length of the book meant everything had to be resolved quickly.

Adam is totally in love with his best friend West, but West has had a crush on Adam's sister for as long as he can remember. Unbeknownst to Adam tho, West has had a change of heart when it comes to which sibling he is actually crushing on. After a truth or dare session ends in a kiss between Adam and West, West realizes he is totally into his best friend and wants to see if it's mutual. He comes up with the idea of five fake dates as a ruse to get Adam to go out with him. What follows is a comedy of errors....emergency rooms, ferris wheels, and a jail cell to name a few. These boys are adorable and their journey is incredibly sweet.

I thought I’d reviewed this already? But I guess not? Anyway, pure love, all the way. Great characters, well drawn, and long enough for a very satisfying read for a morning, or an evening. Also, it’s a good lead in to the rest of a series based on Bliss.

I stumbled across this being advertised in a group somewhere so i went ahead and bought it. I was mostly amused as I read it. The premise of Adam and West going on five fake dates is hilarious. West is straight, as far as Adam knows, but really he's bi and stuck on Adam. The idea was too funny to pass up. There is the serious issue of misunderstandings but i love the way the story shows this. Overall this was a fun story with a happy ending

This was a funny, romantic novella about young love and self-discovery between best friends Adam and West. It was a novella, so I knew going into it I wasn't getting a big long tale. It was perfect for what it was, a short, sweet young adult romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light and pleasant teen romance!
Reviewed in Australia on May 2, 2020
Teenager, West, was smitten with his gay best friend’s sister, but is now struggling with feelings for his best friend. He decides to ‘road-test’ their compatibility by taking an unaware Adam on five fake dates, under the guise of learning tips from Adam about how to woo his sister. Although the premise was flimsy, this was very light and pleasant with almost zero-angst. I liked West and Adam and I wanted them to succeed, it was great to get their dual points of view. A few more twists and turns and a much fuller exploration of the homophobia West experiences at home would easily have earned the extra star. 🎧 I enjoyed Darcy Stark’s narration and I’m looking forward to more from him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet friends to lovers story

This was such a sweet story!! I love the friends to lovers trope and this story absolutely lived up to the best of that trope. I loved the uncertainty on both sides as they started their fake dates only to realize their feelings for each other aren’t so fake after all. This hit a lot of my favourite buttons and I highly recommend it!

Room mates and friends to forever.
Adam has always loved West and thought him unattainable, but one day things change.
Little bits of typical insecure angst, but sweet and easy to read

4.0 out of 5 stars Because lying may not be the best start
Reviewed in Canada on January 18, 2020
This was a cute story of finding new love with an old friend and figuring it out......just not always in the best way. The fake dating was a bit cute and what was truly funny was how everyone but the two guys involved could see that it was anything but fake. The deception could have gone very poorly if either West was too flippant about revealing the trick, or if Adam chose to not to along with it, but it worked in a way that made sense. As these two are already such close friends it works for them to trust each other, even when there is something a bit off, and it worked to build something more between them even during a ridiculous farce. A sweet and easy read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok read - needed to be longer to have more depth
Reviewed in Australia on March 6, 2020
This was a short friends-to-lovers story. It was almost cute, almost sweet, but I just couldn't get into it with how West went about things. Instead of trying to talk to Adam about things, he made up the 5 fake dates and kept Adam thinking that he was really after his older sister, Hannah. Adam had lusted after West for a long time, resigned to never get him given he was straight, so for West to string him along was cruel. Communication and trust are the foundations to a good relationship, and this didn't really have either.

Their family's easy acceptance of them was great, but seemed rushed. Same with the ending - it didn't follow the same flow as the rest of the book and I couldn't quite understand how they could afford an apartment at college together, but not when they had real jobs? Perhaps I misinterpreted- regardless, I think it needed to be longer to really flesh things out properly.

Still an ok read if you're after something light and quick, but there's really not much to it otherwise.
