“Somewhere deep down, I think I knew it’d be you…”
Friends to Lovers romances are probably my favorite subtropes, and Kelsey KILLED it with this gem. I’m a huge fan of everything Kelsey Kingsley writes; her novels always leave me in a warm, thoughtful, happy place. She definitely outdid herself with this masterpiece and I can't wait to see what this creative genius whips up next! In her author’s note before the start of the novel, she explains why she chose to write about such a sensitive topic, Ulcerative Colitis. She writes with brutally honest truth and integrity, something you don’t find often in written work. Her keen awareness of this delicate topic as it pertains to the human condition in general, but more specifically, masculinity, is brilliance at its finest. She writes with a certain understanding that only the most emotionally intelligent authors are capable of. HOLY HELL MOLLY DRYER COMING IN FOR THE WIN!!! I am alllllll about empowered female leads and Molly is just that. What a perfectly written character. She’s flawed in her own, individual way, but she also has a confidence about her that comes from her past experiences. She is strong and beautiful and Chad, our leading man, sees it from the moment he sets eyes on her again. Kingsley created Chad, a handsome, charismatic professional guitarist who is diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. He reconnects with his childhood best friend, Molly, and our romance begins. During the entirety of his emotional journey, he has to come to terms, not only with his illness, but with what he really wants out of life. Molly, being the incredible human that she is, puts aside all the past hurt and abandonment she felt towards Chad, and helps him rediscover himself again. Of course they fall in love but, I kind of wonder if they had always been in love but didn’t know how to put it into words? Chad and Molly’s mothers are best friends, so when I say the grew up together, I mean they literally have known each other since infancy. That’s pretty rare. As they navigate these new waters together (i.e. Chad's health, their sexual exploration, etc.), we get to witness what fame can do to a romantic relationship. Some bonds are strong enough to withstand that spotlight, others aren’t. Chad and Molly might be my new favorite fictional couple, if I’m being honest. Their love comes with a lifetime of memories made before their first kiss; such magic. Side note: Kelsey mentioned HEB in this novel and I just about had a cow. Texas pride at its finest. If you’re not from Texas, you have no idea what you’re missing out on. HEB is the greatest grocery store ever created and it filled my heart to see it written into this story. :) Anyway, Kelsey, congratulations - you’ve stolen my heart yet again. Bravo! An exquisite 5 star read.

This was such a great story. I loved the fact and hated it at the same time, that he spent so much time wasted with Ali. Everyone could see how horrible she was and that was proven more right with her truths when they ended it. She was just downright mean, hurtful and disrespectful and never truly tried to be supportive of him. But it spoke volumes about how he didn’t want to break up because she was comfortable and he had invested/wasted so many years in that relationship. Lots of people do this not realizing they are only hurting themselves from not opening themselves up to possibilities that are right around the corner. I loved molly and their friendship. And of course Sebastian and his teasing and nicknames for Chad. Chadington bear being the best then baby bear. Haha. Their parents were a little annoying because parents but I get it. Glad they learned that bullied people bully and how they could stand up without being hurtful. Great story. Can’t wait for Greyson.

I make no excuses for my love of Kelsey Kingsley's characters, and this Forget the Stars is no exception. We met our successful guitarist in previous books. Chad (Chaddington Bear, oh my gosh) is thirty and not where he thought he'd be at this age. He is living at home between tours with a over-involved parents, has a girlfriend who won't commit, and has some serious health issues that are getting worse. He also has some lingering guilt for treating his childhood friend and neighbor, Molly, poorly while chasing high school popularity.

Molly, on the other hand, has worked hard to put the bullied girl and abandoned friend of her childhood behind her as she enjoys local success as a singer. She, too, has an overbearing mom with whom she shares some trauma from her dad leaving them for a newer, shinier family. This understandably shapes Molly's self-worth. Where Molly could easily be written as a bitter, she chooses to remain as open-hearted and caring. Molly has scars with which we all can relate, but she shines in spite (and in some cases because) of them.

Chad and Molly reconnect and forge a new friendship, one where Chad and his band give Molly the chance to open for their band's tour. The proximity lends Molly a window into how serious Chad's health issues have become. She forces him to be honest about it and is his support when he is diagnosed with UC. Here, Kingsley not only shows the real symptoms and effects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease but also lends such vulnerability to both characters. In the hands of a less compassionate or capable author, this storyline could have been mocking or become preachy. The opposite that happens here. Chad cannot be separated from his chronic diagnosis, and that has repercussions. His parents don't understand, his girlfriend is horrible, and he has to take time off from the band. Molly is his steadying force, and their friendship grows.

Through the book, both Chad and Molly explore their regrets, what happens when one stops wishing, and what happens when real life doesn't align with the plan. As Molly's star rises, can she see that she is worthy of life's opportunities and permanent romantic love? Can Chad find the love and family he so badly wants while learning to live with his diagnosis? You will root for these two to embrace what they each deserve.

I wish I could explain my love of the world of the band members and their families. Through each book, they just get better. I love seeing all of my favorites again, and their support of Chad through his diagnosis is exactly what we would want for ourselves. Sebastian and Chad's friendship is so sweet and authentic to the two characters. Molly's parking lot yoga sessions, rom-coms galore, and plenty of unsolicited Sebastian advice give the book heart and laughter. I would want these characters to be my friends. They are so down-to-earth and decent.

I'll end with what I always say about Kelsey Kingsley's work. Just get it and read it. But this book is extra special. It gives us a glimpse into a painful disease that so many of us either experience or know someone who is affected. Many people with IBD suffer alone since people can be so insensitive to the disease's realties. I hope by shining a light on IBD/UC, we can all be more empathetic to those whose diseases aren't visible. There's so much goodness in this book, and I cannot wait for more people to experience it!

I skimmed my way through the last half and jumped paragraphs in the last quarter. I hate leaving bad reviews. I know these authors work hard and put a lot into them but this book was drab, blah, boring. A family oriented band? A band-mate with the poops? A former fat girl turned Betty with poor self esteem? Just not a good recipe. Happy to move on.

Love that Kelsey Kingsley doesn't always make life beautiful and easy for her characters. They have real problems, diseases etc and live real lives. I am totally in awe of Molly and her strength. Even when abandoned by Chad in high school she comes out stronger and believing in herself. I struggled a bit with Chad. I wanted to smack him and say dump the long time girlfriend who treats you like dirt regardless of whether you reconnect with your childhood friend. Also couldn't believe he was so in denial about his digestive issues that he thought it was better to not know what was going on. Glad that Molly was a force for the good. Loved getting to spend so much time with the band mates. They are truly good guys who look out for those they love and that Molly quickly became part of the group. Always looking forward to the next emotional trip that Kelsey will take me on.

I have been waiting to read Chaddington's story since I learned that there would be one; ok, truth be told I have been waiting since I first "met" him as a supporting character.

I love everything about this book. I love that the characters develop nicely. I love that some of my old favourites pop in for a visit. I love that Kelsey isn't afraid to make her characters real people with real issues and problems. I think I love that the most. Kelsey's characters are all so well written they could be my friends or neighbours.

If you haven't read any of Kelsey's work I highly recommend all of it. She is an author that I always one click.

This is a special story in more ways then one. It has stayed with me for days after reading and I hope that those that need to hear it’s messages discover the joy that is a Kelsey Kingsley story. I have read every word the author has published and every new book becomes my favourite. Forget the Stars is the best story she has written in my opinion and has become one of my top reads of 2019.

You can’t help but fall for both Chad and Molly as individuals but when they start to come together you just want to spend all your time with them.

I really enjoyed the journey of both characters and was very taken with how relatable Molly is. It was refreshing to meet a female character with some body acceptance issues that didn’t let it rule her life in an unhealthy way. I loved her strength and how she was willing to step out of her comfort zone but wasn’t blinded by her success.

Chad is the sweetheart book boyfriend we all deserve. He’s fun, passionate and on his way to knowing what he wants. I really enjoyed the honest and respectful way the author incorporated life with a chronic illness into this story. She didn’t shy away from the awkward truths and highlighted an experience I’m sure many readers are having in one way or another. I believe it is so important for books, TV, movies etc to normalise love for everyone, no matter what challenges they may have and Kelsey Kingsley has done this beautifully.

Some of Kelsey’s past characters make wonderful appearances in this story and as always Sebastian steals any scene he is in. Do your self a favour if you haven’t already and read Chad’s band mates stories.

I can’t recommend this enough if you are looking for a sweet, emotional, feel good love story!

This was my first book by this author and I loved it !!!
Molly and chad are #chally and I totally #ship them haha .
Molly and chad grew up together as best friends , their mums are also inseparable best friends , (nosey and interfering but also lovable )
They grew apart in high school and went their separate ways in collage and life.
For this story they are now 30 and find their way back to each other as both best friends and then lovers to
    Find their HEA .
It’s a friends to lovers /rock band on tour style romance with awesome side characters great world building!
It’s a full stand alone but it’s obvious there are characters here that have their own books so I’m off to find those now!!
